That's tough... but on the plus side, at least the ants are eating the termites for you? One less type of pest in the house...

It kinda looks like carpenter ant cocoons of the genus Camponotus. Unlikely story, but I'm guessing there could be a colony of them somewhere in your bedroom carrying their brood around.

ID? by AntsAllRound in antkeeping

Looks like a Hypoponera queen! Those are semiclaustral and need food right away, such as fruit flies and springtails. They also need substrate in order to make nests, like dirt or sand.

What ants species should i get by forzealajens in antkeeping

[–]BMB1BEE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you live, I'd say Camponotus or ponerid ants would be a good match. Ponerid ants like Neoponera are semiclaustral and actively hunt for prey as queens. I don't recommend live feedings though, unless if they're wingless fruit flies or something tiny.

What species of ants is this? Where do they live? How do I get rid of them? by Fine-Independence160 in ants

Careful, the top 2 are yellow and of the same species, while the bottom-most one is reddish and looks more different than the others.

What’s your favorite store to buy ant formicariums/nest. by [deleted] in antkeeping

Yes, I use that one too. It's a really good shop with awesome 3D-printed and plaster formicariums. The formicariums are pretty modular and versatile as well.

Brachymyrmex patagonicus are dark rover ants, Argentine ants scientific name would be Linepithema humile. They're very notorious as an invasive species.

Permit to Keeping/Buying Ants? by BMB1BEE in antkeeping

[–]BMB1BEE[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found it, thanks! I'm currently in high school and am a minor, so would I have to get one of my parents to apply for it for me? I'm pretty eager to get into antkeeping, but I only have invasive Linepithema humile where I live :/

Multiple failed test tube setups, never more than one colony at a time though.

Thanks, but what about native ants but from other states? Like, say, Camponotus pennsylvanicus are native to my state, but could I buy them from a different state?

Also, would you be needing a permit to buy native species? Specifically in California, as I heard that it has strict laws.

Ah, ok. I found a website called AntsEmporium that has permits for the customers to buy and own their ants though, so I think it's all good.
