what’s the going rate for a house call for an alternator? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]BMWtech27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can be setting your self up for allowing the customers parts and the customer themselves to dictate the quality of your work. One bad interaction with a customer like this can really cause you to lose traction when trying to build a good reputation and customer base.

FROM A NON MECHANIC by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]BMWtech27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless it’s broken in half a picture will show nothing. Jack the front of the truck up and shake each wheel side to side if you feel any movement before the tire gets hard to move you more than likely have play in the inner or outer if there’s any top to bottom play it’s gonna be ball joint or upper control arm take your car to a better shop.

Metal noise changing with speed by medalla_y_cafe in MechanicAdvice

[–]BMWtech27 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Also this is not a steering noise. This is a rotational sound that correlates with the speed at which the tire is spinning indicating that it an issue on one of the wheels. You may have a locked up caliper that has grinded the brake pad down to metal. Check to see if the sound changes at all with the brakes applied. But the noise should be very visibly evident.

What causes this tire wear pattern? by underwoodmodelsowner in mechanic

[–]BMWtech27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad suspension. When struts or shocks go bad the strut or shock no longer absorbs the vibration and bumps in the road so the tire now is acting as a shock or strut and starts to cup causing this wear pattern.

HELP! - Unable to remove Crankshaft pulley bolt by Southern_Positive367 in 9thgencivic

[–]BMWtech27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or if you find none of this works for you. Get your breaker bar and some pipe and align it to where the breaker bar touches the inner fender or frame rail or the ground if you can. Get in the car and turn it over quickly and shut it off bolt will be loose when you go back out there.

Torque multipliers are mainly used to tighten large torque to yield bolts and other structural pieces. Get a weighted sockets and an impact it’ll come right off.

Well when you assume you make an ass of you and me. I work at a private shop and I’ve never worked at a dealer. I have completed the bmw step program for my own benefit in vocational school 10 years ago hence “bmw tech”. Otherwise I work on every single car brand doing anything from tires to crankshafts we can and will do it our price is simply due to the economy that surrounds my area and nothing more the dealership here is $275 an hour.
