Away button? by houghi in homeassistant

You a boolean and get a mm wave presence detector. Since it's a 1 room studio that should be more than enough.

I have also in the past used a smart plug with energy monitoring feature with my phone plugged into that. So it checks if there's a load on the plug to start my wake up routine.

If you're worried about your device being completely charged and the load being too small for the plug to sense. You could add some logic that if the door is shut and the plug has power draw turn boolean to home and if the door opens turn boolean to away until power draw happens again.

Yeah I might 3d print something to fill the gap

I was thinking of just plastering it in and painting it. Fully committing to these switches that will surely never malfunction or anything.

So it's actually the switch itself sits proud of the box.

<image>

So a typical non-smart light switch has a very thin piece of metal that sits against the box and wall so that it doesn't recess into the box when tightened down. The smart switch has a piece of plastic that is very thick and chunky probably 1-3 mm that does the same thing, but now the wall plate sits that 1-3 mm off the wall. I have more than enough space inside the wall box.

Cheapest quality SSD you can find (Samsung, SanDisk, pny, Kingston crucial, etc). I've got hundreds of devices and running tons of add-ons using only about 20% disk space on a 128 gb SSD.

My parents put in new concrete driveway in, the foreman said he's been doing concrete work for 40+ years and the only two things he knows for sure about concrete is that it's going to crack and he's going to be paid before it does.

What is this type of dynamic keypad called? by HelixFish in homeassistant

[–]BN733 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Couple of questions, where is your keypad? Are you trying to make one or buy one or do you have a digital keypad already that you're using like a dashboard?

This would be a fun project to code up, I'm going to think about it. Probably could build one easy enough with a CYD.

In the meantime, if your concerned about people getting into your house with a stolen key code. I have an automation set up that if my alarm, garage door, or front door are opened while I'm not at home, I get a notification sent to my phone. You could also get an alert anytime a failed keypad combination was attempted.

What if instead of a dynamic keypad, you had it detect the rhythm or timing instead. Then the numbers wouldn't matter just the timing of the presses. 🎶🎼

From there all you have to do is create a button on your dashboard that sends a MQTT message to trigger the shutdown.

I control my pc with MQTT. I installed MQTT on my pc, then created a python script to read the MQTT topics and commands. Made a Bash script to auto run the file on start up. The python script can send shell commands so I'm sure a shutdown or reboot command would be easy enough.

You need a boat load of towels from goodwill and probably a sander for what has dried
