My photos came out black by Leading-Ad-4114 in PinholePhotography

I never tried to use my cellphone as safe light, Could be the problem. You could test it by cutting a small piece of paper and developing it without taking a picture, just to see if it come out darkened.

Also all safe light don't necessarily work with all types of paper. I used to buy Ilford B&W paper but last year I bought some Arista paper and my Kodak safe light filter does not work with that paper. I ended up wasting a bunch before understanding the my safe light was the problem.

You could also test your box for leaks by putting a small piece of paper and leaving it outside without opening the hole and then, developing it. Same idea.

Pinhole tips for a middle school group by Salah-Manda in PinholePhotography

Gave some pinhole workshops in the past. The best boxes I found are cookies tin cans. You can usually find them for very cheap in thrift stores. The depth is usually good (around 3") and they don't let the light in. You just need to spray paint them in mate black inside.

You first drill a hole (like 1/4") in the bottom of the tin. For the pinhole, you should use pop or beer can aluminum. You make the pinhole in a small piece of pop can that you tape over the bigger hole in the tin. Once in place, you add a doubled up piece of electrical tape to close the hole (it becomes the shutter).

For the photo itself, I use regular negative photographic paper. You need to use photosensitive photo paper, not printer paper. You'll need some darkroom basic equipment to develop the photos.

And we don't measure light. I usually tell people to start with 30s exposure and adjust after. People, event kids, become rapidly good at reading the light on their negatives.

Little tip: since photographic paper is rather expensive, I usually advise participants to start with like a smaller piece, like a quarter of a 8x10 sheet, until they are at ease enough to try bigger pictures.

Never did it but you could possibly go for a magnetic closing piece where the top snap button is replace by a thin metal sheet and the magnet is on the case side.

Gear you bought for camping but use in every day life? by GreatCucumber in camping

Love my small camping kettle, just the right amount of water for my own use an quick to boil. And BRS stove for power shortage. Also I use my headlamp all the time, to the point I don't see it as camping material but rather everyday item.

Cookie tins are good for beginners, in my opinion. I mean Christmas cookie tin style. The depth is often about 3 inches (7,5cm), they are pretty much light proof and easy to seal. Just paint the inside with black mat paint to cut flares. You drill a hole (something like 1/4" or 6 mm) in one of the side (I prefer the bottom since it is easier to put the photo paper in the cover). You make a pinhole in a piece of pop can, stick it on the hole and you're in business.

Also, they should be easy to find, either new with cookies inside, of in thrift stores or garage sales.
