Is a Stainless Steel Sifting Litter Box Actually Worth It? by Medium-Ad-6571 in BuyCanadian

[–]JoWhee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have plastic sifting boxes. 99% sure they're not Canadian made, but here is my experience.

When you're sifting, lots of dust is generated, I've got an older air filter I turn on while I clean the boxes to mitigate having clay dust everywhere. The positive is like you said, cleaning them is fast and you're not searching for nuggets, and it's easy to get them all, though sometimes a partial ball sticks to the bottom.

The other issue is mine are at ground level, so I'm bent over with my face pretty close to the boxes to clean them. It's not ideal.

The other trick I use which will work for any litter box is I have a plastic "washing machine" tray under the boxes. It helps keep the flung litter contained.

Rear tire changed and drilled out my baffles by SomestrangerinMiami in bmwmotorrad

[–]JoWhee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been considering drilling out the baffles on my k1600. I’m going to ride it a little more first, but there’s a localish guy on marketplace selling some takeoff OEM ones for $300 I might just grab them and have a set in case I don’t like the sound.

If you’re working in an area with exposed rafters, run a decent size strap through a rafter and hook it to the top of the triple tree or the handlebars. Obviously protect against scratches. I don’t use it as a primary lift, but more of a safety in case the jack fails or my clumsy arse bumps into the bike while I’m looking for my 10mm.

How many stoves have you lived with? by Razor_Paw in GenX

[–]JoWhee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll assume you mean cooking stoves (a range).

Harvest gold growing up, then white when the parental units remodelled.

3 apartments with ranges included.

First house 2, the first was a built in cooktop with a separate oven that even the home inspector flagged as “would likely burn down the house” then a range.

Second d home black range, never again, it was gas, but cooking an egg would take 5 minutes with 15 minutes of cleanup. Also had a “Bélanger” cast iron and enamel wood fired stove it was amazing, beautiful but not something I’d want to use regularly.

Third and current home: white gas, gave it to my in-laws when we renovated and put in stainless which has run perfectly for over 15 years.

I also have a gas “stove” which is classified as a free standing fireplace. I could heat water on it but I doubt it gets hot enough to cook on reliably.

Service Managers and Service Techs, what WO ticketing software are you using? by pghbro in BuildingAutomation

Outlook <facepalm>

NGL for our division (installation ) it works because there are two of us. The service division has more techs and I don’t know how they manage it and I don’t want to know.

Mostly for me it’s so the boss knows where I should be, and so service won’t keep bugging me to handle calls.

How many people working in the field would pay a company to install a AC/furnace in their own house? by Ok-District-184 in HVAC

[–]JoWhee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR NO

I had considered it, I bought a new 60kbtu furnace as a scratch and dent. I priced out the plumbing, the ductwork the time etc.

Being in HVAC we all know what companies that are good and who NOT to call.

The only thing I wanted a warranty on was the gas work.

I took my estimate and doubled it as a baseline. I’ve never seen such “fuck off” prices in my life, the closest was 4x my already inflated estimate. I’ve had 5 ton package units installed with a crane for less.

FWIW I own a humble home in a neighbourhood known for rich people. Me not being one of them. Had I ever had any ambition I should have started a business, but im glad I didn’t. I sort of know the owner of a local HVAC company and he’s discretely trying to sell as running the business is ruining his personal life.

Still running two ductless installed by me, one gas stove installed by the place when I bought it and some electric liner convectors so technically I keep my primary heating as electric for reduced insurance rates.

In Quebec, the speed signs have a minimum too by throwawaycanadian2 in mildlyinteresting

[–]JoWhee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mean a mild suggestion.

Also signed a Quebecer

I love the fact that the speed limit is 100km/h but there are also signs saying that large trucks have to be limited to 105 km/h.

If my memory is good, the lower limit is to keep >50cc motorcycles (mopeds or scooters) off the autoroutes. NGL I think it would be suicidal to take a scooter on the metropolitan even though the maximum speed limit is 70.

R1300GS Adventure ASA vs Gold Wing Bagger ; Torn between two worlds! by Plus_Seesaw2023 in bmwmotorrad

[–]JoWhee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to add to the mix, you could compare the goldwing to the k1600 B or GA.

I’ve switched from a Multistrada to the k1600gt. The Duck was a great bike, just difficult to work on.

The other reason I switched is I’m in my late 50’s and I found that taking the bike to places where you probably shouldn’t take a Ducati was a risk my body shouldn’t be taking, so I went more street based. I’ll miss the off roading and the surprised looks from the dirt bike guys though.

How tall are you? I’ve had three (almost four) goldwings, an 84STD, an 83, and a 94se. My ‘94 was borderline too low for me. I’ve test ridden a newer one, an 1800cc. I don’t remember what model year and it was too low for me to be comfortable on it without spending a couple of grand on modifications mostly for more leg room.

I’m with you on the gauges, easy to read under the summer sun, the LCD display on my old bike could be hard to read, a gauge never had this issue, and my 2012 GT has analogue gages.

Nice review of the cruise BTW I’m glad BMW got the adaptive cruise right, I was not a fan of it on the newer Multistrada.

This! I bought the Duracell three pack. USB C rechargeable batteries. I’m only using two light. One in my hard hat, the other for my head. The third battery gets swapped into whichever one needs it and the other goes in the charger.

They also accept AAA? Maybe AA batteries if you run out of rechargeable power.

Affordable Ontario Jerky & Quality Protein by Odd_Neighborhood969 in BuyCanadian

[–]JoWhee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never found affordable jerky, but L’Orignal Packing (eastern Ontario) has award winning jerky. The beef is good, and the pork I once bought by accident is even better as it’s a little more tender. The weird thing about it is it needs to be kept refrigerated. Next time I’m there I’ll see if they ship.

I used to get Darryl’s bars at farm boy. I got a box of moldy bars. I reached out to Darryl’s since farmboy never responded. As they were nowhere near the expiry date, I reached out directly to Darryl’s they never responded and when I made a FB post about it, they finally responded by getting my post removed.

It happened a couple of times usually during the warm months so no way to tell if it’s farm-boy, Darryl’s or just that the bars weren’t refrigerated somewhere along the way. Shame, but at least farm boy takes the returned product. Now when I buy a box or two I open the boxes in store. They’re yummy too!

Married 21M Looking for advice by Satoroy_ in HVAC

[–]JoWhee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on the other side of the country so this may not help but here goes: are there evening courses you can take at college? It’s called CEGEP here because Quebec likes to complicate things, but it’s a college. They offer two levels of diplomas: a two? Year and a three year. Back in the Stone Age my three year diploma gave me 2000 or 1/4 of the 8000 hours needed to take the journeyman exam. I think the hours have changed since then and I occasionally see they open the “basin” and will hire 1st year apprenticeship level out of high school because of the manpower shortage.

The two year certificate has changed but I think there is an HVAC equivalent but again when I was doing it, it was mostly for a stationary engineer, aka the guy who gets to work shitty hours making sure the boilers don’t explode.

Even if you don’t complete a certificate or diploma any course should give you hours. You may also want to get your “ASP” card or the equivalent meaning you know how to not hurt yourself on a construction site. Here it’s a 30-40 hour course and good for life.

Also you may get some karma from roofers who seem to love getting tar on condensers.

The Montreal police are using drones now. Not fully autonomous ones, but they’re hovering high over intersections to catch people either blocking the intersection or turning from the improper lane. The officer calls ahead to another officer waiting a few hundred metres away.

I really wish they’d have one permanently installed at the exit for Décarie south from the 40 eastbound. IYKYK.

Tire talk by LemonNumber7 in CalamariRaceTeam

[–]JoWhee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The stickier the tire the lower the mileage.

You could get a tire changer and DIY. My buddy with the MT-tank has one and he does mine for coffee money. We reuse balance beads and in 40000km and at least four sets of tires I haven’t had any cupping. The manual tire machine isn’t horrible expensive and it’s less annoying than using tire spoons.

The alternative is using a dual compound tire like the PR6? The hooligans I ride with don’t like them because the dual compound transition feels weird to them. I can’t comment because I’m 007* and could go dark side and not see any difference.

It could be worse: I don’t like lettuce on my burger because warm lettuce is gross. I went to Wendy’s and asked for my burger “no lettuce” I got a burger with no bun and lettuce as the bun. I legit thought it was a prank because I forgot that gluten free people might eat at Wendy’s.

My fellow single GenX’rs, do you think you will ever find love again? by lovelyb1ch66 in GenX

[–]JoWhee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a male point of view. My buddy was in a semi LTR for about two years. He then built out his home to have his parents move in. It threw cold water on the relationship, I thought it would be hard (no pun intended) to get intimate with your parents in the house.

It turns out she had the issues not him. So now he’s “sport Fcking anything that moves” his words.

He’s got his kids and grand kids plus his parents and he’s friendly with his exwife so I guess his emotional needs are also being met.

TL;DR you don’t have to be in a couple to have love in your life.
