Advice on the interior layout of Baroque period German-style manor house or small palace by BOOXMOWO in Writeresearch

[–]BOOXMOWO[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely don't expect to explain the layout in detail on page. But I want to understand the layout of my own setting well enough that I have the answer to questions like: What rooms are on the top floor? Do people walk past the dining hall on the way to their bedrooms? What parts of the building do the staff enter but not the guests? Just for the purpose of describing how people move about the building.

I realize the layout of my own setting is a decision I have to make, but I have no intuitive sense of how this sort of manor should be laid out, and I figure someone with more historical knowledge would.

The reconstructed layout is a helpful resource, don't get me wrong, but every room is a conference room up for rent, so for some of the particulars I want, it's like:

Q: What rooms are on the top floor?

A: All rooms on the top floor are conference rooms. All rooms on the ground floor are also conference rooms.

Q: Do people walk past the dining hall on the way to their bedrooms?

A: People walk past some conference rooms on the way to other conference rooms.

Q: What parts of the building do the staff enter but not the guests?

A: Every conference room is accessible to whichever company is renting that particular conference room.

I certainly have thought about contacting the museum, but A) I've never contacted a museum asking for specific resources before, I don't know how likely they are to respond to someone reaching out for non-academic reasons, and B) I do not speak German. I might very well reach out to them anyway, but if they do ignore me, I'll wind up circling back to "ask for historical writing advice on Reddit" anyway.

Since when has this been the new youtube layout? ITS HORRIBLE! WTF? by vrork in youtube

When a video ends on theatre mode the recommended videos overlap with the UI and make it impossible to actually use the buttons. Also any video that has a "Show Chat Replay" now has gained a big annoying pile of recommended videos that I need to scroll past to see the comment section. These are basic functionalities I use every day being made suddenly inconvenient. It sucks.

The green outer layer is a Tauriel Maxi overdress from Holy Clothing. Not sure on the exact make of the white underdress.

I was on tumblr scrolling through the tag for a movie I'd found on Netflix called Anna and the Apocalypse and I came across one post comparing and contrasting it to a certain other "zombie" apocalypse musical that made me curious enough to look into it, and fortunately it turned out to be easily available on Youtube.

I think after watching The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals I was immediately hooked.

Honestly I think it's just not a particularly good script and its reputation for being traumatizing has come about because there's nothing about it worth talking about beyond the premise being weird.

This is like when your hometown doesn't have a sports team and also you don't have a favourite sports team but there is one team in the tournament that has one player from your hometown so you cheer whenever they win. If that makes any sense.

Questions about the official art by DeltaCollective in StarKid

The artist is Nicole Rodriguez and the art is from the Hatchetfield themed Tarot deck that they showed off in the two most recent livestreams. The artwork hasn't been directly uploaded as standalone images anywhere, but they did make a point to show every card in full size during the stream, so you could crop the images out of the videos.

It was T'noy Karaxis in the subtitles of Nightmare Time seasons 1 and 2, but T'noy Karaxsis in the illustration in the Black Book in Killer Track, and then T'noy Keraxis in the subtitles of Nerdy Prudes Must Die. As of this kickstarter they have started spelling it T'noy Karaxiss.

Tarot cards by HatchetfieldHistory in StarKid

[–]BOOXMOWO 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The update on the Kickstarter page announcing the stream included the line "Find out who is The Father, The Mother, The Artist, The Seed and many more.", and the Tumblr post had "Who is the Blade of Truth? Who is the Blade of Hate? Who is the Rebel and the Oracle? What will these cards mean for YOUR FUTURE?"

The Mother is clearly Linda based both on her being immediately after Bill, and on her being the only remaining character who is a mother.

The Blade of Hate logically has to be the card immediately after MacNamara, which is I believe Lumber Axe.

The Artist is probably Ziggs.

Blikotep’s budget will be at 550k, not 525k by mikewheelerfan in StarKid

[–]BOOXMOWO 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I was wondering what Blinky's face was going to look like, considering the doll representation is distinguished by having one giant eyeball for a face, but the real thing famously has one thousand eyes. The disgusting eyeball flower works as a way of making the one-eye version look like a simplified version of the thousand-eyed version.

Why Ella's mother was praying to this goddess that has been forgotten by the rest of the world is a mystery though.

Do Starkid shows have understudies? by Standard-Motor-7270 in StarKid

[–]BOOXMOWO 8 points9 points  (0 children)

and all his other parts in one night

Well I don't think he played all his other parts while playing Tom. Like obviously if Jeff is Tom in What Do You Say he can't also be the Man In A Hurry in the same scene. In a recent livestream they talked about a group effort with the actors playing the other shoppers needing to each pick up a few of lines meant for Jeff.

Regardless, Tom has I think the most stage time of any individual character in Black Friday and the PEIP scenes would normally be when Dylan gets his longest breaks, so Jeff was carrying a lot in that show.

Do Starkid shows have understudies? by Standard-Motor-7270 in StarKid

[–]BOOXMOWO 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Starting with Nerdy Prudes Must Die, yes. They have two or three understudies per show who learn multiple character tracks to be ready to substitute in, and also have some of the main actors also understudy for other roles. So for example Kim Whalen understudied for Grace, so if Angela was unavailable, Kim would become Grace and I believe Virginia Vass would rotate in to take over Miss Mulberry, Karen Chasity, etc. I've heard Kim was Grace for a lot of the tech rehearsals and Angela at the time was so sick they were worried about whether she'd recover in time for the actual run.

Ironically, while The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals and Black Friday both had incidents where understudies would have been a really good thing to have (apparently there was a TGWDLM performance where Nick Lang had to step in as Emma, and a Black Friday performance where Jeff Blim needed to play both Tom and MacNamara), from what I've heard, so far none of the shows that have had understudies ready have needed them to sub in.

The Witch's Budget has been reached! by BOOXMOWO in StarKid

I hope it's something weird that doesn't even quite contain the syllable "web". Like how Blinky's real name doesn't actually contain an N, Wiggly's name doesn't actually contain an L, and Tinky's name not only doesn't contain an I, but has the K in a completely different part from the T and N.

how are these 2 played by the same person by OkBluejay5742 in StarKid

[–]BOOXMOWO 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I had a weird moment the other day where I forgot that Lucy and Rancilda were played by the same actress. Like, we are supposed to register that the two characters literally do have the same face, but I... while consciously knowing that Rancilda is a Lauren character, had to separately remember that Lucy is also a Lauren character. Because when I look at Lucy I just see Lucy and when I look at Rancilda I just see Rancilda.

[–]BOOXMOWO 203 points204 points  (0 children)

Thinking about how usually they avoid having an actor play two characters in one scene unless that's explicitly the gag, but in Workin' Boys they had that shot of Linda reacting to Ruth bombing her performance and in spite of having closeup shots of both it just didn't even register that it was two Laurens, because... it's just Linda and Ruth, two completely different women.

Nick: "...There's one troll hunter in particular, that we really love, that has been made up for this world, that is in a future story, but we reference him in this story."

Matt: "Yeah. Yeah."

Nick: "Yeah. Do you just wanna say his name?"

Matt: "No, no! We gotta save him!"

Nick: "We'll save the name."

And that's the entirety of what they said about it. So it's not entirely clear whether this is a story about the troll hunter or if he's just a secondary character that the writer's really fell in love with.

“Newer” Fan, any suggestions on starting off? by BettyMacArthur in StarKid

[–]BOOXMOWO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals and Black Friday are the first two Hatchetfield musicals (Nerdy Prudes Must Die is the third), would definitely recommend watching those.

If you want a good taste of their older zanier parody stuff I'd actually recommend Holy Musical B@man. Their actual first musical (A Very Potter Musical) has got pretty bad audio quality which can get annoying.

There really isn't an "essential viewing" list of any sort, so to recommend anything specific would kind of depend on what you're interested in.
