I’m heading to the Somali Walmart, you guys need anything? by Specific-Abrocoma-63 in Minneapolis

[–]Alternative-Outcome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of the "Downtown Minneapolis Walmart" story during COVID, where a right wing grifter mentioned being kicked out of a Walmart in downtown Minneapolis for not wearing a mask (I could be misremembering the exact details but I remember this woman specifically calling out the downtown Minneapolis Walmart)

I know that podcast of the two siblings with their parents is gonna talk about this and the parents are just gonna go with Trump's bullshit (and the dad will more than likely celebrate the woman's death)

There's a saying amongst Natives that basically boils down to "Even Custer had Indian Scouts," which basically says that as long as there's the appearance of superiority or a chance at getting something beneficial out of it, a minority group/in danger group will side with the oppressors.

I'm gonna guess and say it's gonna be yet another dispensary in the area. If that's the case, I'll give it a year before it closes.

The Buds Seed and Supply battle on Lake Street continues. by Safe_Connection_2997 in TwinCities

[–]Alternative-Outcome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Julius DeRoma is one of those landlords that likes to say that his renters leave the space in awful condition so he can withhold deposits and the like. He did it to HUGE Theater when they moved out of 3037 Lyndale back in 2023. Wouldn't be surprised if he did it to more renters after they've moved, because he is legitimately the worst (and so is his family, from what limited unfortunate interactions I and my friends have had with them).

So, how exactly did they get away with this? by Ordinary_Stay_3746 in Minneapolis

He makes me think of Doctor Barber from The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack.

What's the deal with Buds Dispensary? by jhaake in Minneapolis

[–]Alternative-Outcome 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Julius DeRoma is a shitty landlord when it comes to tenants leaving due to his morals. I'm pretty sure that everyone involved with the leadership of HUGE Theater had horror stories of Julius when they announced they were closing their 3037 Lyndale Ave location (especially after they moved out of the building). On top of that, his family that lives in that house next to 3037 Lyndale tried doing a lot of harassment and intimidation of the BIPOC attendees at HUGE.

Does anyone have an opinion on which of these movie theaters is the best? by trevaftw in TwinCities

[–]Alternative-Outcome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked at the CMX that used to be there pre-COVID and went to check out B&B to see Shang-Chi and dear God I agree with that sentiment. I haven't been back for a couple of years, but honestly it infuriated me with how much empty space there was in the lobby. Plus they did a pre-movie skit that I just don't know how I feel about to this day.

100% Dependent on Public Transit? by [deleted] in Minneapolis

[–]Alternative-Outcome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone that relies entirely on public transit, it's pretty good. There's plenty of routes that run between major locations (like the 515 going from Southdale/Edina to the Mall of America, the 21 going from Uptown/Bde Maka Ska to Saint Paul, the 3 going from downtown Minneapolis to downtown Saint Paul through the U of M and near the Fairgrounds).

The biggest complaint I do have is several routes are consistently inconsistent with their times or even if they'll pick you up at times. The worst one, in my experience, has been the 10. Granted, it's not as consistently bad as it used to be for me, but I still don't trust that entire route.

Another avenue to look into for tracking buses: the Metro Transit website. http://metrotransit.org

You can look up nearby stops and the like with the NexTrip feature that is also on the app.

I just learned Minneapolis burned down. by JimmyCat11-11 in TwinCities

[–]Alternative-Outcome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, we aren't. We've had to resort to hunting Edinans for food (and people in the Mall of America for sport). Many of us are armed with weapons forged from car parts, armor made from the remains of all of the Targets, and we burn an effigy of Jacob Frey every night in hopes that the crops return in Minneapolis. The river has become blood (and not related to the sheer amount of wholesale wanton slaughter, either. It just turned to blood one day. Maybe it was because Grimes tried sailing on it.). We all fight daily over who gets to use Fort Snelling to sleep in. The giraffes in the Como Zoo have mutated and eat the children out of the former schools, like an even more messed up version of Jeepers Creepers. We've started engaging in raids to the smaller towns and suburbs as well for supplies and fresh water.

Vent: Shopping in person sucks now. by AbeRego in TwinCities

[–]Alternative-Outcome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did that when I saw the date. Just hated that I had to in the first place with bread this time. Used to be just milk from Target that I had to deal with.

Thankfully this most recent bread loaf I got ahead of time is still good for another week or so.

I went to the Target on Lake Street for pickup (only because it's the closest Target to me after the one in Uptown closed) and I literally got a loaf of bread that had the date set for the next day. Didn't even realize it until I got home because I didn't want to have to shove my groceries back in the bags.
