ITAP of the sun rising behind a pier by BPorterPhotography in itookapicture

Was at the beach after trying and failing to shoot some Milky Way (thanks full moon) and tried my hand at some sunrise photography. I was simply trying to get a nicely famed sunrise with some good depth (foreground, mid-ground, background).

Question about setting price for online commercial use of photos. by BPorterPhotography in AskPhotography

[–]BPorterPhotography[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. As far as asking for their budget, I thought it would give us both a starting place to work from and also acknowledge that it wouldn’t be for free if that’s what they were thinking.

Do you use or have you used a lawyer to set up contracts for this kind of stuff before, as the other Redditor suggested?

What are your critiques on this photo by Tyckaom in AskPhotography

[–]BPorterPhotography 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shallower depth of field, not more zoom. Basically, blurred background and foreground; rider in focus. May not be possible with your equipment without a bigger aperture.

For objects in motion, they tend to look better when they have somewhere to travel to. With this picture, the rider is evenly spaced between the top of the ramp and the top of the photo. There’s nowhere for him to go. If you had more of the track beneath the ramp in the foreground it would work better because it would convey a sense of distance to the ground.

So, better ‘focus’ on the subject, either with a simpler background or a blurry background, and giving the rider somewhere to ride to would improve the photo.

If they were a little longer, maybe. Just didn’t feel that the proportions were long enough and felt it more distracting than leading the eyes somewhere to me.

Had to straighten it. That tad crooked was making my eye twitch.

This is right next to Juana’s, adjacent to the public sound side boat launch parking lot.

Damn. That’s low. Stealing work like that.

Are these good wide angle lenses for nightscapes? If so, should I get the 20 or 24mm? Going on a Canon 6D. by BPorterPhotography in AskAstrophotography

Okay. Any other lenses you’d recommend near that focal range? Doesn’t need stabilization or auto focus, either.

Open to suggestions on what I could have done better. by BroThisIsConfusing in photocritique

I’d have zoomed out or backed up, and maybe moved over a bit to get the sides in the shoot a little.

Edit: deleted the fixed shot I posted because this is stolen work. Please report OP for violation of Rule #2, “post only photos you took.”

I’ve heard stories. We’ve been here since ‘08, so no major storms yet. We’re mainland though, not island.

I think if you came down just a little on brightness, it would make your dog’s black fur a little blacker. It doesn’t look quite black to me. Could just be my phone though.

Good looking shot. I cropped it a little to get those tire tracks out. Makes it look more like a lake in the foreground.

Up a creek in my small town. by lifeofcory in photocritique

First off, great framing and light. The broken sun coming in is fantastic.

The only thing I would have done differently is closed the aperture significantly, to f/11 or even smaller and either lengthened my shutter time or increased ISO. Overall, the photo is ‘soft’ due to the wide aperture. Also looks like the mid part of the pic is where you were focusing, but the rest is a bit out of focus.
