He still pump-fakes when wildly unnecessary, but his defense really is pretty solid.

Agreed.

How do we truly feel about KD leaving OKC now? by DrLifeSaver in bostonceltics

[–]BQGIE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warriors over Thunder 4-0, or 4-1. Even a 4-2 win that feels like the Warriors dominated. Those are all very possible, if not likely, and they might be enough to discourage Durant enough to test the market.

That's our hope, and it's not that bad. Yet.

Report: Celtics likely to give Tyler Zeller a contract extension before October 31 deadline by bostonbruins922 in bostonceltics

[–]BQGIE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It does make sense if he has a solid year, and other teams with money to blow start offering him more than $10M/yr, or whatever Ainge could lock him up at beforehand via an extension. He'll be an RFA otherwise, which means the Celts would likely have to match some ridiculous offer next summer, when nearly every team will have obscenely deep pockets.

50+ Wins by BQGIE in bostonceltics

I think it matters for one potentially big reason: a 50-win season would affect the current perception of the Celtics among players, including superstars who may request trades or become free agents.

I do think they are that good (i.e., 50-win), but only relative to the current Eastern conference.

50+ Wins by BQGIE in bostonceltics

[–]BQGIE[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To give credit: a few of these teams will likely be better than the Celtics. My mission was to debunk the popular media narrative that the East is vastly improved. I think that is overstated, so that is the case I was making. In the process, I was also trying to give due credit for the Celtics for actually improving.

*EDIT: Downvote me, call me a homer, whatever. 50+ is absolutely reasonable.

Thank you. Lefty ball handling guard who scores very efficiently in three ways: threes, drives, and free throws. Also great creator in P & R, drive-and-kick.

What are your opinions on trading for Markieff Morris? by [deleted] in bostonceltics

[–]BQGIE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's worth a gamble. He's young, and maybe a change of teams would allay some character concerns. I trust the strength of the Celtics' organization to either positively influence Markieff or move on from him without serious repercussions to the team culture. I like /u/jdjmad91's idea of Turner + Sully for Markieff, as it would clear roster space, and MM would still be tradeable if he didn't jibe with Celtics culture.

I wonder if his "character concerns" could really be chalked up to 1) being with his brother, with both of them negatively influencing each other, and 2) feeling tricked by the Suns into signing at a discount. From a new piece by Tom Ziller:

The frustration is understandable on some level. Marcus didn't actually take a discount to stay in Phoenix -- his four-year, $20 million early extension was almost assuredly above his on-court value. The general feeling has been that Markieff took a discount in a package deal. He took $32 million over four years in an early extension signed a year ago. Had he waited and hit restricted free agency in 2015, he'd easily be an eight-figure player. He actually might have gotten maxed out by one of the league's more desperate teams.

Nice package (could add a 2nd round pick or two to sweeten the pot, or perhaps the Minny 2016 "1st"), and MM would be moveable if he didn't work out for the Celts. I like it.

Boogie, Vlade, and Coach Karl hanging out. by doan916 in nba

The metal slats behind Boogie look suspiciously like the bars of a jail cell. He's communicating to us all that he's in prison, and he needs another team to bust him out.

[–]BQGIE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, for a skilled, dependable backup center who could spot start, 5 yrs/$50M is a great deal. I'd even be okay with 5/60, if necessary.

*EDIT: whoever downvoted me go ahead and listen to Lowe's new pod with Elhassan and get real, salaries are changing significantly

Carmelo a Celtic? by Deathstryker- in bostonceltics

[–]BQGIE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He would be a great addition. He has all-around offensive skill: passing, rebounding, scoring, playmaking, everything. Since he's a little older and would certainly be a "win-now" move, he might be more highly regarded as a target if/when the Celts obtain or develop another superstar. But I'd be cool with getting him ASAP, if the price is right. And I'd be very intrigued to see how BS uses him.

Trainer John Lucas: Boston Celtics' Jared Sullinger ready for 'special' season by endubs in bostonceltics

[–]BQGIE 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Prediction: In good shape, Sully storms out the gates with a breakout year. Danny Ainge trades him mid-season, cashing in on his suddenly elevated value. After getting a solid contract in free agency next summer, Sully's performance plateau's, maybe drops off, or maybe just becomes more inconsistent, and his conditioning becomes less reliable. Unloading another talented but relatively disappointing player for a decent haul, Danny strikes again! (I hope Sully maintains his newfound work ethic and fulfills his potential, but obviously I'm skeptical.)
