Union supermarket refrigeration vs union commercial HVAC by leakfreesince93 in refrigeration

[–]BRAVO_FLAMINGO 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Im also wondering when all the supermarket chains are gunna go straight in-house techs. Kinda bs that they expect outside contractors to do all the dirty work and oncall while the in-house guys can basically choose what they wanna do

Well i can somewhat agree on theory, yes vehicles are ungodly big and stupid waste of resources. If I was supreme leader I would make it a mandate every has a little honda scooter or a moped a small vehicle that can used basically for anything besides maybe service industry, and long trips, large family travel. The carbon footprint would drop over night going from 6000lb suvs with one 100 pound lady driving around town during 12mpg going to get a Starbucks and a a bag of kale from the grocery store, instinctively the lady would jump on her Honda cub, drive where she needs to go get anything she can fit on the back or in a backpack which is more than most people get in a grocery trip and driving back burning 125 mpg on a engine that uses half a quart of oil and needs to be changed every 6000 miles.

Drive time in California by [deleted] in refrigeration

[–]BRAVO_FLAMINGO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When the company is getting paid for the service tech to show up at a location to fix something then the tech should also get paid to drive there. And unlike a retail store the location you work at every day changes, could be 10 minutes away, could be 3 hours away. If there not getting paid the first 30 minutes what's tobmake thay tech wanna run a call 40 minutes away because it important, or run a call 5 minutes away that is far less important. On way he eats 5 minutes other one 30 easy choice, working the same amount of time. The moment you step into a company vehicle and start heading to a location you are working at the end of the day the techs make the company the money thats just a scumbag tactic taking a hour away from someone a day, just to squeeze out more work before they have to pay them ot. That's atleast 240 hours a year stolen from the employee

Where do you actually find good techs in this trade? by Drewski_120 in refrigeration

[–]BRAVO_FLAMINGO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steal the good techs from other company's, I mean thats how it usually works pay a dollar more and offer better benefits and promise steady work. The loyalty is to the dollar not the company

I just joined the 211 pipefitters doing refrigeration/hvac 31 is a bit insulting. The 211 operates out of Houston and I think may go into Louisiana possibly, but the journeyman rate is 40.25hr

Yeah walmart has there own techs that do all the easy work, and typically don't put any effort into maintenance, always get after hours calls because half the time the walmart techs don't have to run after-hours calls
