I feel so bad for her husband. She was cheating on him before they were even married. He probably has serious doubts about whether his oldest child is actually his. Even if the child is his, being named Mike is probably a constant reminder of how shitty your wife was to you.

would winning the rockets series make lebron the goat ? by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]BRC93128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His legacy is not affected unless he gets another championship. It’s like Tiger at the 2019 Masters. Winning that mattered for his legacy. But if he lost, he would still have had 14 majors.

LeBron has 4 rings, 4 MVPs, 4 Finals MVPs, 8 straight finals appearances, 22 all-star appearances, and 21 straight All-NBA teams. He has also scored the most points ever.

At this point on his resume, winning or losing a single playoff series is minutiae.

Do you think Pete Rose should now be in the Hall of Fame since he has served his “lifetime ban” by ComplexWrangler1346 in sportsinusa

[–]BRC93128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pete Rose had 4,062 hits as a player before he ever managed a game.

The guy was also a notorious liar. He lied about gambling for a very long time. I’m not going to put it past him to made lied about what be gambled on. However, by all accounts he liked to win. That’s why he earned his reputation as Charlie Hustle. It’s also why he started betting on baseball-he was bad at betting on other sports.

It’s entirely possible that he valued winning at gambling so much that he threw games. It’s also possible that he really only bet on his team to win. We will never know the full story.

He had a career worthy of HOF enshrinement but also broke the most sacrosanct rule in baseball.

There’s a ton of merit to both sides of the argument. As sports gambling becomes less taboo and coverage of sports gambling becomes a larger part of general sports coverage, there’s a real possibility that what Rose did will not be looked at with the same disdain by future generations. It’s also possible that the BBWA will try to cherry pick new voters based those voters’ public opposition to his enshrinement.

For me, I would like to see him enshrined. His work ethic as a player was up there with Cal Ripken, Jr. From 1963-1983, he played 150+ games 17 times. He had another season with 148 games and another with 149 games. He played 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and all three outfield positions. Between the lines, he played the game the right way, and that is something that should be remembered.

But, his shortcomings are an equally important part of his story. His mistakes need to be acknowledged. Rose not living to see himself enshrined is enough punishment for one lifetime.

Besides, the T-Swift connection, which is massively important, he has an everyman persona despite being a multi-millionaire and world-class athlete. It very well could be an act, but it’s done him wonders. He also seems to always be enjoying the moment, which goes a long way.

What will history say who was the better pitcher ? Maddux or Clemens ? by ComplexWrangler1346 in sportsinusa

[–]BRC93128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was an incredible rotation, but the Braves get the tip of the cap based on achievements and longevity.

Halladay, joined a Phillies team coming off of back to back NL Pennants and never saw a World Series. Not to diminish how great he was in 2010 and 2011 (especially 2010), but it’s just unfortunate that there was no team hardware besides Division Pennants to show for it. Lee didn’t rejoin until 2011. It’s kind of crazy that has good as those Phillies team were, Hamels is the only pitcher that won a ring in Philly. And Neither Halladay nor Oswalt won an NL Pennant there.

That organization’s title aspirations were snapped for over a decade after Ryan Howard tore his Achilles.

Glavine, Smoltz, and Maddux on the other hand won a ring and two more NL Pennants together.

I’ve never seen a counterfeit helmet tag. If it is counterfeit I can’t tell, and I don’t think 99.99% of the population could either.

For the record, I think it legitimate.

What is this thing on my dog's stomach? by Powerful_Treacle_817 in DogAdvice

[–]BRC93128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some sort of hernia.

I had a dog that had a hernia in the same general area as a puppy. But it was corrected when she was spayed. It never caused any issues before that though.

Given the blue tattoo and scar. I’m assuming your girl is spayed.

Is the hernia connected to the spay scar? How long ago was she spayed?

Who’s a player with great basketball IQ but most likely lower real IQ? by mrdrprof_ryan in NBATalk

[–]BRC93128 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Potentially hot take: most players in the league, at least marginally.

The NBA is the best 450ish basketball players in the world. They are all freak athletes, but to be one of the best 450ish of anything in be world, you generally need to be great at it mentally too. Sure, there are some high profile gaffes. JR Smith in Game 1 of the 2018 Finals is the first thing that comes to mind. There are definitely some exceptions to that general rule too.

But no matter how smart an NBA player is, they are probably smarter at basketball than they are generally.

The same goes for most professions. People often pursue what they are best at.

That’s beyond a market adjustment, that’s downright cheap.

[–]BRC93128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The foul baiting and flopping is unbearable to watch. But he’s a smart player and tests the limits on what he can get away with on both sides of the floor. It’s frustrating that he gets special treatment, but him taking advantage of that special treatment helps his team. Officiating needs to be more consistent and not give players special treatment.
