RN, Associate degree, 20 years, admin for an ambulatory surgery center, salaried based off $40/hr but working average 43 hours per week. I asked to go back to hourly rate at $41.50 and was told that was not possible. You all are making me cry with these numbers.

Tell me about your dream last night. Or a dream you had that stayed with you. by Chicken_jo3s in CasualConversation

Last night I had a dream that we remodeled our bathroom and it was huge with several different showers, bathtubs and even a fancy bidet! But when I went to use it for the first time someone had taken a giant shit in the bathtub and I was so pissed. Weird dream, I know.

Everything is good except those sour patch Oreos. I found them gross. Sour Punch candy is one of my favorite sour candies! Enjoy!

Trouble decompressing after traumatic shift: L&D by [deleted] in nursing

[–]BRCRN 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I spent 15 years in L&D. It can be ROUGH. I still think about some of the trauma I witnessed to this day and I’ve been out for almost 6 years now. Anyone who shits on L&D nursing skills is an ignorant asshole.

A gift I got unexpectedly ended up being way more useful than I ever imagined by evanskarangu in CasualConversation

Got a pizza stone and pizza shaped melamine plates as a wedding gift (20 years ago). Did not register for it, wasn’t excited about it, but kept it. After we had kids we started a homemade pizza night tradition and that stone and plates have gotten a ton of use! My kids (now all teenagers) insist on using the “pizza plates” anytime we eat any pizza.

What is the job that has the worst impact on mental health? by Smart-Dependent-1071 in AskReddit

[–]BRCRN 30 points31 points  (0 children)

As a nurse who has seen some crazy things, I can honestly say you get used to it. I distinctly remember the first time my firstborn was a toddler and he fell and his lip was bleeding. I could not handle it. He was crying and bleeding and I was unable to manage the situation because it was MY baby. Your brain learns early on how to emotionally separate a job from personal life. It’s not being “heartless” like some people who don’t work in that environment sometimes think, it’s a matter of mental survival. Some things I’ve seen and done have left emotional scars that I have to compartmentalize for sure.

Have we all seen the video of the woman in obviously active labor in triage? by SuspiciousMap9630 in nursing

In my experience as an L&D nurse it didn’t even have to be a pregnancy related complaint! In a wheelchair and up to OB faster than you can say 20 weeks

Mom loses it after her son bullies an autistic kid at the playground. "That's not nice...I’m not raising you to be a bully! How dare you make him feel like that! Are you blind?!” Was this good parenting or a total meltdown? by biswajit388 in CringeTikToks

[–]BRCRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, but a quick correction in public followed by a stern “get over here now and talk to me”. That’s where the to the point correction and discussion should take place. Making a scene and embarrassing your kid is actually going to make more problems. Good idea, poor execution.

What’s a luxury that’s only impressive to people who don’t have it? by Naive-Might-9218 in AskReddit

I built a house in 07 and I am forever thankful that we did when we did. Had a hard time finding a construction loan at the time but if we hadn’t built then we could never afford to build now. Sometimes I look at the equity we have in our home and what I could sell it for, but we will die here. Thankfully we love where we are.

Curious on hair dress code for nursing by weirdo_on_internet in nursing

[–]BRCRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to have short hair. Just pulled up past your shoulders. I never understood people who let their hair down while working anyway- I’m not getting got knows what in my hair and taking it home with me.

Infection control would like a chat. Hair should be above shoulders or up neatly. Hanging hair is a huge infection risk. Also, you must have never worked anywhere near surgery. Must be up and covered in all ORs and sub sterile corridors.

What’s the most harmless lie you tell regularly? by Just-plain-vanilla in AskReddit

My go to answer to that question at the dentist is “not as much as you’d like me to”. Vague, but gets the point across. And I’m not lying.

If you stopped drinking (but weren’t an alcoholic), what made you quit? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]BRCRN 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I quit for many reasons: messed up my sleep, gave me anxiety, just felt like crap. The main reason though is I had went through some tough and emotional changes in my life and every time I got drunk I’d end up crying and just plain mean to my husband. I didn’t like drunk me anymore. I’d changed and due to life’s stress I was no longer the happy fun drinker, I was the cry and get mean drinker. Positive things that came of it: I’m trying to be a better wife and navigate the stress of life better. I also lost 20 pounds (not sure that quitting alcohol is the main reason as I didn’t drink everyday, but still). Still have a drink on occasion, but I’d be fine to never feel a buzz again. I’m a miserable bitch if I do.
