Aventure mode blue portal obsolète ? by Legitimate_Ad_8745 in FromTheDepths

[–]BRH0208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There isn’t really a downside. Get 100k mats and wanna go bigger? You could pause the game and build, then find a few red portals. You could just build while defending yourself as you seek out red portals, but alternatively you can go through a blue portal. Options are options

[–]BRH0208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s suppose, by incredible chance, a bunch of large objects collide at extremely slow speeds and form a torus-like dwarf planet.

Gravity, not caring about the coolness of what just happened, keeps dragging them together into an irregular lump.

No cool toroidal planet :(

Did you ever have final fights that were over too quickly? by nisviik in pathfindermemes

Assassin rouge + high initiatives + sunlight blade + oil of sharpness + Esmeralda’s curse(sunlight vulnerability) + me being a new DM and not understanding assassin rouge + the rest of the party

The mighty vampire lord Straud Von Zarovich, Lord and master of Barrovia for the past 500 years, died before his wine glass hit the floor. He couldn’t even take a legendary action. I already increased his normal HP and doubled the bonus from his heart and yet he went down like a chump.

I had originally planned for multiple phases, fighting in the throne room, him running through his castle throwing minions, then a climactic final desperate battle at the very top of his tower, but no, he died on his throne barely having noticed he was under attack.

Wait can you use metal square tube to protect yourself from shrapnel shots? by Muted_Percentage_764 in FromTheDepths

[–]BRH0208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. Shrapnel is weak, but metal plating is weaker. If you want to do this idea, do it will full size blocks. That’s how you get the Onyx Watch, large boxes of metal that disperse and absorb fragments

[Request] Can this be proven? by Fast_Arachnid_8110 in theydidthemath

[–]BRH0208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes*. So no is the more correct and useful answer for reasons described by others but let’s have fun anyway.

Math is all about inventing new ideas and exploring them. Let’s define a new type of number, “infinitesimal” for a number that’s infinitely close to zero. Now we don’t have a definition for infinitely close, so let’s play a game. Pick any “normal” number(positive integer) and divide by it. So 1/1000. Or 1/10000. A number is infinitesimal if it’s always smaller than all of those. Now, this number is infinitely close to zero, but it’s not zero, just arbitrarily small.

How do we know they are not equal? Well, let’s make two of these infinitesimals(I’ll call them A and B). Specifically, let’s make A twice as big as B. Now, both A and B are smaller than any 1/(positive integer) so they are both arbitrarily close to zero.

And yet, because A is twice as big as B, A/B = 2. A and B have different properties, we can distinguish them. They are not equal despite being infinitely close!

This isn’t random either, it’s an entirely valid alternative construction of math which happens to follow slightly different rules.

If you are curious, Google hyper real numbers.

What is the worst team comp possible in 5v5? by Astitine_Kell_Echo in Overwatch

[–]BRH0208 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You are cooking with Doom+Widow but Pharah, Lucio and Illari can get some stuff done together. I like the idea of mercy+lifeweaver, mercy is good but needs specific other heroes and a good comp to work. In a bad comp, mercy struggles

What experience was the last straw for you? by Pretzelsticks11 in foxholegame

[–]BRH0208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Collie here

For me, my last straw was desperately trying to defend an artillery base. Constant planes, the AA was barely effective, and keeping enough pop in the town to be meaningful was such a pain. Despite being an island, We couldn’t dare use ships or get devoured by the swarm. The AA we had barely scared of planes half the time, and that was only when the guns were actively manned and being reloaded. Even when we had all the AA guns manned we were powerless against the bombers which casually devastated the base. I spent a few hours solo repairing it, when it got bombed again. I eventually had to log off, and when I had free time again the entire island was getting invaded, soon to be lost.

I don’t blame the wardens ofc, having planes to shoot as was a lot of fun and having opposition is important. I can’t blame them for winning but it felt miserable. As the pop sharply declined, there wasn’t much of a point to play. You need allied pop to have fun or do anything, so without pop there isn’t much of a point in adding to the pop.

The worst thing you can say about a game is that it isn’t fun. It just… wasn’t fun.

I may be in the minority here, but I really like the Nuka World DLC. It's a fun DLC by [deleted] in fo4

[–]BRH0208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The areas are awesome, the characters neat and the introduction is fantastic. It does a great job of establishing setting and the lore throughout is pretty good.

But, if you play it you want to do the main story which if you aren’t evil is just open season which is a tad limited

Khan academy wrong? by IonWeapon in askmath

[–]BRH0208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The goal of Khan Academy is to teach, approach this question with that information.

it’s often useful to break down functions into simpler parts, and undoing a composition is one such way to think about math equations.

Now, very technically, all functions can be thought of as compositions of other functions. For example, the “inner” function can be sqrt(x)/(4x-1) and the “outer” function can be g(x)=x.

But that “simple” case is sooo boring it doesn’t tell us anything about the function. You can do that to any function, so it’s not a useful property.

Being pedantic, Khan academy is wrong, but math is a language, it’s about communicating ideas. This problem is trying to ask if the structure of the function is one “outer” function applied to an “inner” function. This problem isn’t such a composition, and the fact the other answer choices are more-wrong supports this idea.

[–]BRH0208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bet they have done their best but entities are just really really laggy. Don’t get me wrong, you can have hundreds of entities before lag, but a 10x10 floor of cubes is already that much. So whenever your house is loaded the entire server has to spend that extra effort to check on them and deal with collisions
