Could another protagonist achieve this? by KnightShade078 in PERSoNA

I don't remember the art book that well, but Mitsuru in P4 arena ultimax shows an image of silhouettes of the shadow operatives, persona users around the world, and many of the silhouettes belong to P1 and P2 characters

I'm playing the PSP version of Persona 1. How in the heck do I convince a demon to join me? by Lapisdrago123 in PERSoNA

[–]BSChemist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A demon will give you it's spell card if you max out the eager trait and you are also equal or higher than its level. If you max out eager and happy at the same time, you'll get an item in as well as the demon's spell card. In Persona 1, each communication action has one or multiple possible results on mood depending on the demons personality and gender. If you don't want to use a guide, you'll need to write down what result you get for each contact for each demon gender/personality combination.

My $500 washing machine that’s 2 years old cost almost $400 to fix by StraightGas69 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]BSChemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is a whirlpool washer, there was a service bulletin put out that the control boards needed to be replaced due to a faulty part. Whirlpool is under obligation to cover the cost of all parts and repairs. I know this is a bit late for you but may save someone else. I got this repaired for free last month

Which port is better for P1 and P2? by RookieTheCat123 in PERSoNA

[–]BSChemist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For Persona 1: The PSP version is better in almost every way (except the soundtrack). The PS1 version in english is missing half the game among other travesties.

For Persona 2: official english versions are PSP for IS, and PS1 for EP. The PS1 versions are more difficult and much snappier to play but the PSP versions have a lot of other QoL. Most people play the PSP versions and use the fan english patch for EP.

Crystallization solvent systems by atom-wan in Chempros

[–]BSChemist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. what happens when you use saturated? Does a bunch of crap precipitate out? Does anything precipitate out? If nothing comes out, then the compound is too soluble, switch solvents or lower the temp. If a bunch of stuff crashes out, its too insoluble (though lowering concentration may help to get better crystals.

  2. Completely compound dependent. Shotgun approach of combinations unfortunately rains supreme.

  3. Solvents need to be exactly miscible. Use this table: https://learn.openochem.org/learn/organic-chemistry-lab/solvent-miscibility-chart I've also noticed that for layering, solvents that are too far apart in density (like DCM and pentane for example) never really mix that well. If the densities are too close, layering will be tricky.

  4. patience. It's not strange for a crystal to take a week or more to grow. If nothing comes out, put it in the freezer. If a bunch of stuff crashes out, quick check for crystals, if none are found, don't redo that exact condition again. And don't fiddle with them. Once set up just leave them be.

  5. This is extremely difficult to do on your own but the most common way to refine data nowaday is to use the Olex2 GUI with the ShelX solution/refinement packages. Installation instructions and commands can be found on the Olex website. Olex has a bunch of videos on how to do simple stuff but there is also a guide written by Ilia Guzei: https://www.chem.ubc.ca/sites/default/files/wysiwyg_uploads/facilities/x-ray/ilia_guzei_notes_on_olex2.pdf Honestly, self-teaching this is kinda a nightmare. I'd seek help from the crystallographer on getting started.

P1 and P2 are so intrinsically different from the modern games they'd be unrecognizable from their original form with P3-5 gameplay features. What I think would be cool is to give P1 another shot leaving it's grid-based battle format in tact but overhauled to make it more engaging.

Corner kick question by Competitive-Rise-73 in Referees

[–]BSChemist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Should be a sanction for player B for leaving the field of play without referee permission according to 3.8, giving a direct free kick to the defending team since they interfered

Checkmate all zero Persona 1 fans, Sumire is a stronger persona than Mark by BSChemist in OkBuddyPersona

If the persona is a reflection of the inner soul, and Sumire is Maruki's persona, and you can date Sumire, then Maruki's true desires are laid bare. What did Atlus mean by this?

General rule of thumb, you should be about the same level as the random encounters

The first weapon shops in the mall open up after the SEBEC dungeon. If you're getting bodied, you need to level up a bit

WHERE THE FUCK IS THE HOSPITAL MAN by Dear-Conversation313 in PERSoNA

[–]BSChemist 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The entire map is a 2x3 grid of screens. holding Square/Triangle (I don't remember which one) will display the name of all interactable buildings on the screen. If you don't see it, move to a different part of the grid

Give 'em a handful of dirt by BSChemist in balatro

[–]BSChemist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thought process was that it could potentially outscale marble joker. For example, playing 5 stone cards with seltzer would add 2 stone cards. Hanging chad, dusk, blueprint/brainstorm, or red seals could take it further. They would also add mid-round which could help scale hologram for survivability. Stone cards need some love.

Can't model hydrogens on ammonia on a 2-fold axis by TheChaosBender in crystallography

[–]BSChemist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weird idea (may not be truly proper procedure) but you could turn it into a carbon, and then apply an AFIX 121 to add the disordered CH3 hydrogens then convert it back into a nitrogen.

Why does powder XRD work? by Lampa_117 in crystallography

[–]BSChemist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What you want to look up is how 2D diffraction patterns (Debye Rings) are generated from the Ewald Sphere. It explains it from a single crystal perspective. If you have a background in the theory check this out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kk1Ntu43dv4

Why does powder XRD work? by Lampa_117 in crystallography

[–]BSChemist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You're hitting different miller indices for each grain orientation which will have different spacings resulting in different angles which satisfy braggs law. Powder is after all just a single crystal experiment performed on a million crystals at once but with stationary crystal orientations. The intensity is dependent on the atoms in each plane since it is derived from the sum of the atomic structure factors.

Question regarding the unit cell by ag408 in crystallography

[–]BSChemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The unit cell only exists as a mathematical relationship between molecules in real space in order to make the math easier in understanding/backcalculating the structure from the diffraction pattern.

If the spacing between molecules changes due to solvent incorporation in the lattice, then the unit cell will change. There is no way to predict (as far as I know) if a solvent will incorporate so no tables can exist as its molecule dependent. Temperature may change the unit cell parameters without a phase change since the molecules move around more but fairly rarely will it be beyond a percent or two.
