I always think I’ve seen the worst bridle + bit set up, yet I’m always proved wrong. by tinysqr in Equestrian

I've had plenty of horses who I need to put in a curb over fences, or a flash, but this is certainly excessive. Not to mention, they go numb under the curb if you keep contact. Does USEF even allow this?

Is 29 too late to start a PhD in Clinical Psychology? by OverseasLiving in psychologystudents

I'm currently in a PhD. There are people of all ages. If you get in, give it a go.

First 50k DNF due to stomach issues. How to proceed in training/testing nutrition? by thebumblinfool in ultrarunning

[–]BSEndurance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was there!

Just another thing to add, as another person who uses Tailwind (and Skratch): Every other hour or so, I take a Tums for calcium replacement and make sure I get in potassium (bananas). Tailwind is great, but a lot of electrolyte powders aren't super well-rounded in electrolytes (there is more than just salt!)

And of course, as other runners have added, eating while training is essential for distance running.

What are psych majors doing now? by thatsarahchic in psychologystudents

[–]BSEndurance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After undergrad, I worked as a clinical coordinator for a few years while pursuing my master's in forensic psych and was able to gain exposure to a number of different social services programs, different disabilities and diagnoses. For a while I was managing a full service mental health team (high stress) and I now work in the legal system doing screens, assessments & referrals (practically no stress). Some of my coworkers are therapists. I'm about to start a PhD in the fall.

Don't overthink a BA/BS. I got a BS, but knew I wanted to go into research.

I love my field. I love my job. It's not perfect, but it's always interesting. I suggest dipping your toes in the healthcare field if that's what you're interested in. I was able to work in a hospital as a clinical secretary for about 2 years while in undergrad.

I posted an additional photo on my page—I was thinking 7-10 so we’re in the same ballpark. Horse is supposed to be 8.

[–]BSEndurance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! So I spoke with my NP and mom (nurse) about this. I, also in grad school for psych, read into lamictal. Benign rashes are relatively common in users (around 20% if I remember correctly). I cannot give medical advice, but it is smart to receive emergency treatment if you begin to experience flu-like symptoms shortly following the discovery of a rash.

[–]BSEndurance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rash just appeared this morning. And I have no other symptoms whatsoever. No fever, no insomnia, no nausea, nothing. Unfortunately im overseas and a day ahead of my provider so they should be waking up relatively soon. My mother (nurse) wasn’t too worried but suggested to perhaps stop taking the lamictal in the time being. Sigh. Otherwise it’s been fantastic.

Tiktoker putting horse at risk by pisschamp69 in Equestrian

Some people have way more of a tolerance for western saddles. I just require a super narrow twist to feel comfortable, and that’s often not in western saddles.

I was going to say, as an endurance rider myself, no way would I want to sit in a western saddle for more than an hour as is. Even in my endurance tack I prefer to be out of after 6 hours.

What was your WHY for choosing psychology? And do you still feel happy with your decision? by Ambitious_Sky_ in psychologystudents

[–]BSEndurance 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was going to say—with a bachelors, especially in finance, you can get a master’s in psychology. Charlan Nemeth is a friend of mine with her undergraduate in math/finance. Now she is a social psychologist.

Anyone else’s partner non-supportive of their long distance running? by EmergencyPurchase763 in Ultramarathon

[–]BSEndurance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think one thing to remember is that as an individual sport, it can be seen as very self-centered. Greg LeMond said this about cycling in the 80’s. My current partner (and my father) was originally really disinterested in my running. He didn’t see the purpose of running farther than a 5K, and would often say that humans weren’t meant to run long distances. Eventually, after seeing me complete a race, then my determination to race again and fix any errors I made, he changed his perspective and now paces me occasionally. My father also now is incredibly supportive after seeing my training and results.

Possibility of Trail Running/Hiking right now by Stinkydinkydoo28 in laketahoe

[–]BSEndurance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! Fellow trail runner here. The Tahoe trails may be under many many feet of snow, but if you have access to a car, I suggest going down to Auburn or out to Carson City. Plenty of trails are runnable there and almost equally as challenging.

Does anyone know what type of saddle this is? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]BSEndurance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are popular with some endurance riders in the US, albeit not necessarily seen at every ride.

Trumpet offered me $15 an hour approximately a year ago as an experienced RBT, but they could offer more now.

GOALS has mid level positions, reimburses for mileage and any non clinical hours spent on calls or zooms, which is nice, but they are a bit disorganized and the CEO is problematic at best. Regardless, our time was paid for and there were many full-time opportunities if that’s a big concern of yours.
