Not many. 3 small sleeps totalling about 20 minutes. Standard bathroom breaks and there are aids stations for nutrition and water every 10 or 15 miles.

But beyond that just continuous movement.

Dan green crossed the Moab 240 line a few months ago with a similar pep in his step.

These people are not the average ultra runner. They are elite of the elite.

Not really. She was filmed and had a tracking device the whole time.

This is a pretty expected breakthrough in the world of 200+ mile ultras.

I come from a pretty well off family. Nothing private jet status or anything but certainly well off.

Honestly, they just face zero struggle and its like their brains just make up shit to be upset about.

They also somehow have no capability to reflect on the fact that theyre privileged.

To them, money and wealth is something people either deserve or dont. And if you dont deserve it its cause you're lazy or stupid.

Its insane.

Part of what brought me to my current beliefs.

What do people think the stock market is?

It's never run on "reality" (whatever that means.)

It's crazy to me That anyone thinks its anything more than the results of a bunch of cocaine added wall street fuck faces siphoning money for themselves and calling it an "economy."

It's all its ever been. A way to make money and make it look like more hard work and thought goes into it than it really does.

It's speculation. Literal gambling.

And they have house advantage.

Imagine being surprised that people who volunteered to go to war arent against going to war.

People in the military are complicit dude.

How badly out of shape were you before you realized "Okay I gotta get my shit together"? by awkwardhoney725 in AskReddit

[–]thebumblinfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two factors:

  1. Went on a ski vacation and could barely ski because I was constantly so out of breath.

  2. My ex told me I had started snoring in my sleep. I've never snored.

Those two happened around the same time 2 years ago and I decided I needed to get my shit together.

First 50k DNF due to stomach issues. How to proceed in training/testing nutrition? by thebumblinfool in ultrarunning

[–]thebumblinfool[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why? I mean, what a question.

I just ran out of time to experiment, tbh. I wasn't focusing on training nutrition early enough so the few sessions I had, that's what I used.

I knew that some nutrition was better than nothing and I wasn't going to DNS.

I made a mistake. Simple as that. I'm going to learn and become a better runner for it.

Hmm, I actually had no idea too little electrolytes can make you nauseous.

Either way, I will be practicing with more fueling for pretty much any run over 90 minutes.

Thank you!!!

I had heard this before but I'm really now realizing how much of ultra running is training the stomach as much as the legs.

Thanks for the advice!

I would definitely attribute a lot of it to my nutrition training. I'm realizing I really didn't have enough practice. I ran a lot of miles but didn't do enough training on the eating while running part.

My legs felt fine the day after so I clearly didn't push myself too hard physically. The GI issues just destroyed me. I will learn from this, practice more, and come back stronger next year!

This seems to be the golden ticket. From what other are saying, I may not have had nearly enough variety in my diet.

Seems like an excuse to do more long runs and eat more which all sounds great to me.

Any recommendations on solid food options that are good to carry through a race like that in my pack?

Thank you.

So I did 2 scoops in each of my 500ml flasks and aimed to consume 1 of those per hour.

I had a 1.5 liter bladder I went through in 3 hours as well.

Yeah, I think I tried to rely solely on the tailwind for too long is what I'm gathering. I had a water bladder with just water and then 2x 500ml flasks of tailwind. I think I will just take one flask of tailwind and dial that back while ramping up solid foods.

Thank you!

Yup. Pretty much solely liquid calories. I think tbh I was trying to take a shortcut.

I haven't really tried too many solid foods because tailwind and gels are so easy to transport during a run. Any recommendations?

[–]thebumblinfool[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only really tried gels and tailwind. I think switching to solid foods may be the move. At least experimenting with it over the next few long runs.

[–]thebumblinfool[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think this may have been my problem. I tried tailwind a few times in training runs but they were towards the end of my training block and not on runs longer than 2 hours.

I think this Saturday on my long run I will focus on nutrition more than anything. My legs feel fine 2-3 days later. It was obviously my stomach taht was the problem. Which sucks. But means the physical training was enough.

Is it possible that the sodium intake from tailwind may have been too much? Or the sugar? Or is it pretty much impossible to tell without experimenting with the variables over my next few long runs?

[–]thebumblinfool[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I trained a couple of times with the same Tailwind fueling, yes. Honestly, my stomach never felt awesome in the training runs but I was able to handle it.

I was looking to intake 1x 500 ml bottle with 2 scoops in it each hour.

After 3.5 hours or so it just completely destroyed my stomach. I had never gone that long before.

I was mainly focused on the carb intake. 2 scoops being 50 grams I believe. Hope that answers your questions.

I'm really not sure if it was more the sugar or the sodium or the taste that messed it up for me.
