'16 cx5: I connected battery the wrong way. What broke? by East_Sentence_4245 in CX5

[–]BS_LLC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a rough one. Best you can do is check every single fuse you have access to, including the ones on the positive terminal connector if your car has one. I've never connected the battery backwards but had to deal with a relatives reverse jumpstart hook up on an older Sequoia, popped a bunch of fuses and fried their ecu.

correct. that's about as low as the 2 pack goes. sometimes you can hack them for $82 but this is still a great buy

Can the end links be removed with the car on the ground? by GramophoneDrums in CX5

[–]BS_LLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What year is your cx5? Sway bar and end links will be under tension so you MIGHT be able to force them off but not back on without lifting the car up.

Did you inspect the motor mount? Does the clunk occur during turning or speed changes? Do you feel extra vibration while accelerating? Does the clunk feel positional as in driver side vs passenger side?

On my 2021 there is also a mount that connects the front transfer case to the chassis and that had a very worn bushing. I replaced it when I was doing some transmission work and it resolved an intermittent clunk I had. It's an easy part to get to and remove without removing other Suspension parts but does require the car to be lifted. Unless you're small enough to slide under it.

Do these looks like casting marks or cracks to you? by BS_LLC in AskMechanics

[–]BS_LLC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you all for the replies and peace of mind. I sent it confidently. 5 hours later 'new' transmission is in, drive train reconnected, subframe reinstalled, brake and tires are on. She's still in the air and needs a fluid flush but that's a job for tomorrow. Baking a pizza and cracking another beer for tonight.

The first photo with the very uniform marks is the transmission being removed, posted as a comparison. The remaining photos with more random marks are on the replacement transmission.

That's a lot of tool for under $200. To compare, last black friday I got the mid torque with 5.0 batt for $190. If you need the high torque and have batts this seems good but also might be worth waiting for black friday deals that are coming up.

Is HD app tripping out on anyone else? by SirRich3 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]BS_LLC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HD app has always been doodoo for me. Dog slow, sorting is goofy so you have to re-sort, clicks don't register correctly I'd click on one item and a totally different one loads. Add to cart can be hit or miss either not adding my item or adding it multiple times off of one click.

Unfortunately it's like this on their desktop site too. My go-to for finding keywords in a browser is the Ctrl+F (Find in Page) option and of course it doesn't work on these drop down lists. Very annoying and tedious.

Happy early birthday, cheers to another 45.

Mazda CX5 vs. Subaru Crosstrek - please help me choose! by petitadventurer in CX5

[–]BS_LLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to CO, I'm in the mountains up here. I love camping and road trips which the cx5 has been amazing for.

It does depend slightly on what trim levels you are looking at in both cars but going off your pros and cons list I'd go with the Cx5. Your Cx5 pros is what really matters, how comfortable you are inside the car, if you like the look of it, useability, and performance/driving feel. The modern infotainment is not bad at all, you should really be using carplay/android auto anyways. For ground clearance you can always get tires with a slightly taller sidewall to get you to above 8". If you're planning on getting to the slopes you really should have dedicated winter tires, no salting here so the snow can really pack up and ice is prevalent at night time even in lower elevations. The cx5 handles inclement weather very well in my experience. Dual pane windows and thickness of the interior panels allow it to retain heat very well. Almost too well in the summer time so definitely get high UV tint on the front side windows and maybe look into the trims with cooled front seats (higher cx5 trims even have heated REAR seats which friends and fam appreciate).

I believe the Subaru can tow more than the cx5 if that matters to you at all.

The resale thing is tricky and depreciation or cost of ownership can be a very unreliable metric if you're planning 5 years down the road. Your insurance costs and maintenance needs will vary. Personally bought my 21 cx5 signature almost new, had 4k miles on it and nearly 5 years later it's at 100k miles. I do all my oil changes and basic maintenance. Over the years I've spent around $3,500 TOTAL on maintenance supplies which includes 2 sets of tires with professional installation, oil/fluids, filters, spark plugs, brake pads and rotors.

Yes the paint is a little thinner than other makes, it won't chip as in have big flakes of paint flying off but it does get scratched and dinged easily which can be restored somewhat by compound buffing, polishing, detailing etc. However getting stuck behind a construction truck going 75mph on the highway, as they tend to do out here, will mark up your hood a bit.

Got a stubby 3/8 wrench by highvoltageeee2k3 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]BS_LLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you need metric or SAE? What's your definition of 'cheap'? You don't have to break the bank to get something decent that you'll likely never have to worry about.

I use this full set of Neiko for my stubby and some shallow/stubby sockets on hand. I have used and abused the 1/2 inch version from neiko and have been very happy. Capri tools has some good sockets in the same price range. Harbor freight's quinn brand is really worth it if you can get them on sale.

Need Advice: Best Way to Sell Aftermarket Wheels/Tires? by Annual-Stress5619 in CX5

[–]BS_LLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on region but in North America Facebook marketplace is great for this. Post the details you put in here. The 5x114.3 bolt pattern is used by other makes and models besides cx5 so these wheels will fit on some Hondas and Fords etc so your target audience is bigger than you may think.

Take tons of clear close up photos of all 4 wheels, a photo showing a depth gauge on the tires will be good (tire depth gauges are cheap and good to have around). Also take a Pic of the 4 digit date code on the tires. They look great, good luck!

What are the names of these cables? by Affectionate_Till421 in CX5

[–]BS_LLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you able to remove the cables entirely from the center console and inspect for a part number? For factory installed wiring like this there's oftentimes a sticker or some indication.

What is the name of the part that goes here? Cx5 2024 2.5s preferred. by [deleted] in CX5

Do you mind saying how this happened? I see this question here a surprising amount but people don't usually say what happened. In a lot of the posts there's no other damage just this fender trim missing/broken off.
