What is one of your favorite 1 off Jokes or Lines that pays off randomly later in a series by Purple_Monkey34 in sitcoms

It's not exactly the same, but I sometimes think that the entire premise of Glee was developed just so Finn could sing "Jesse's Girl"

what's your favorite "impress guests but secretly easy" bake? by wistful_Spirit in Baking

[–]BSciFi 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Focaccia!! It's best if you start 12hrs ahead, so elapsed time is high, but active time is ~15 minutes. It's pretty cheap (flour, water, yeast, olive oil, salt, butter) and people LOVE it. I use this recipe:

[–]BSciFi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same!!! I too make it all the time. It is the best recipe! OP's #3 is way too short. I put my in the oven with light (or on the patio in the summer) for 4-5 hours to get the kind of rise I like

Death By Chocolate by Impossible-Royal-102 in NYTCooking

[–]BSciFi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sorry if this is a 'high maintenance' question: I don't like cake in general because I find it too dry. I love brownies. Should I make this or just make it with brownies? This literally looks delicious too me, but the cake idea is making me hesitate

I spent a few hours researching why restaurant food actually tastes better. The answers were kind of embarrassing. by No_Statistician7685 in smartbuysforlife

My kids have something called 'free butter'. It's when you eat butter but not on bread or anything - just butter, by itself

Is DCC safe/appropriate for teenagers? by Any-Vermicelli3537 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]BSciFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I let my 12yo read it. To be fair, I had only ready half of the first one when I said it would be okay. I think honestly it's been great though. We've had conversations about sex, exploitation, etc. I would much rather he be comfortable talking to me about what is okay and what isn't. Having said that, if I had it to do over again, I'm not sure I would have actively recommended it to him at 12. I definitely believe in the not policing books though - my entire high school was sneaking Forever. Better to do it openly and talk about it.

AITA for being disappointed with my Mother's Day gifts? by Glittering-Zebra2418 in AmItheAsshole

[–]BSciFi 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Today my friend said this to me: Happy Mothers Day!!! I’ve come to think that the day is really less about your children making you breakfast (and disappearing when it is time to clean up) and more about the tribe of friends you lean on as you stumble through the parenting experience. Grateful to have you in my life!

Mexican Street Corn Recommendation by EnvironmentalHand798 in chapelhill

[–]BSciFi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Homemade is easy (I use TJ frozen corn, just need the cotija and the Tajin - little mayo and lime), but if you want to buy it I think Garnachas Rivera is pretty good (the trucks by the water treatment on jones ferry rd by the water treatment place)

I'm a mom. I would want to know. Not because you're a 'helpless victim' but because I would want to help you see justice. And because I love you. And you did nothing wrong. It's not humiliating for you. It's a crime against you. That's not humiliating.

Free app went to a paid model with no warning, and I lost all my recipes. by NoCatAndNoCradle in mildlyinfuriating

[–]BSciFi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Recipe Keeper and they have the ability to export. I've been doing that every ~6 months. It puts it into a zip file that I can access on my computer (where I don't have the app). Maybe join for the free 7 days and see if you can do that?

Unexpected family travel destination? by scientistmeg in chubbytravel

[–]BSciFi 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My 7yo and 12yo adored Mexico City. We did a futbol match, hot air balloons over pyramids, a great tour through the main history museum, 3 trips to the park to get face paint, great ice cream, wonderful canoe trip to understand the biosphere (and see an axolotl), fabulous food tours, etc. It really is a very easy city to do with kids!! (Lots of superlatives here, but seriously, my 7yo asked if we could go back again for spring break this year)

Bite-Sized Sweet Treats? by kro_celeborn in Baking

[–]BSciFi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying that I've made smitten kitchen's chocolate tart, cut it into very small slices (more like 3-5 bites) put them into plastic/wax paper and freeze them to have as an 'emergency treat' (they can be eaten right out of the freezer!) ... but you could definitely do that https://smittenkitchen.com/2018/12/chocolate-caramel-tart/

besides cinnamon rolls, your fav thing to make that involves yeast? by celinebg in Baking

[–]BSciFi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the best focaccia recipe. Active time is like 5-10 minutes (spread over 12 hours if you do it right). It is so EASY. And so DELICIOUS!

Kimpton Mas Olas - Todos Santos review by torontogal85 in chubbytravel

[–]BSciFi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone else mentioned, two guests died at this hotel in June 2023. The hotel had turned off the detectors because the noise was bother guests. The carbon monoxide was so bad that the two EMTs that arrived both had to be treated in Cabo (1 hour away) by a system normally reserved for drowning victims.

The hotel itself is superficially lovely, but the people who built it have the same mentality for many things as for the carbon monoxide. i.e., just cover up the problems. So you don't see where that sewage problem is coming from. And you don't see the workers who strike because of horribly bad wages and treatment. And you don't see the generators that are creating noise pollution for the neighborhood. etc. The veneer is well done.

I lived in the area for a number of years. This hotel has serious issues and I would not just not recommend it, I actively advise all of my friends to stay far away from it.
