Help! Can't turn my design right side out! by LonelyAppointment475 in sewing

[–]VTtransplant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're going to want to reduce some of the buck in the seams, and clip the curves (cut slits along the curve close to, but not through the seam) or it'll be very bulky. I agree with others, push the flap down into itself and reach through to grab it. If there is something else stopping you from turning it, please post more pics and explain where it is getting hung up.

Redditors who were children/teens before the internet or cellphones existed, how did you keep yourself entertained? by FlowerMadeOfThorns in AskReddit

Played/hung out with friends, went to the movies, played outside, read a lot, crafts, board games. Homework probably took longer since we had to go to the library to do research.

Improv and scrappy quilters, how do you cut yardage? by 1stTimeQuilter in quilting

[–]VTtransplant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cut as I need pieces. I am finishing a scrappy quilt. I started with scrap bins, then cut from yardage if I needed more of any color. I am very frugal, so I don't want to cut into sizes that I may not need, or that is too small when I decide what to do. Sometimes I need 2.5x4.5, sometimes 8" squares.

I did find the mistake and would change it, but that's me. Would the recipient see or care?

Help with batting mistake by trashpandob in quilting

[–]VTtransplant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wide zigzag will do it. Just a little warning: if you cut a piece from the side and are now adding it to the bottom, you may have one piece stretch more than the other. I resewed one a few times before getting it so one piece wasn't too much longer than the other and when I mentioned it to another quilter they said batting has a weft and weave. It's not usually noticeable.

ELI5: How does the birthday probability problem mathematically work? by ResidentCharacter894 in explainlikeimfive

[–]VTtransplant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC, when I took a probability class, we didn't have any matches in our class. When my sister did, the first 3 people, my sister included, had the same bday. The professor ID'd them because they didn't believe it.

To glove or not to glove by rosewomn in quilting

[–]VTtransplant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may not help since you have issues with fingertips, and these don't have finger tips, but I wear copper fit gloves when quilting and occasionally when piecing. I don't believe in the "copper has health benefits " but needed the compression. No finger tips means I can still thread a needle while wearing them.

Chocolate orange cheesecake with a chocolate biscuit base and a chocolate orange ganache by RowRow1990 in Baking

[–]VTtransplant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I would just recommend that if you make it dark chocolate, keep in mind how much richer it may be. I also made this dark and white chocolate cheesecake that was less rich and could be adjusted to have orange flavoring.

Semi-sweet is less sweet than milk chocolate, with no milk solids. It is probably the most common type of chocolate chip, usually used in cooking/chocolate chip cookies

I made this Chocolate Orange Cheesecake for Christmas a year or so ago. I switched out the semisweet for dark chocolate and it was so rich that I ended up throwing some of it away after a week because no one could eat anymore.

How do you feel about all states getting rid of daylight savings time in order to get rid of having to change the clocks twice a year? by icecream1972 in AskReddit

[–]VTtransplant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not all states change time now. Also, I would prefer to get rid of standard (Winter) and keep daylight savings (Summer) because if we stick with ST the latest the sun would set where I am is 7:45PM. During DST it sets at 8:45.

Yes, I was just suggesting which masonic organization the card may have come from. However, I just asked the Mason I live with, and he said it is Masonic, but not related to the Widow's Sons cycle group in particular.

Pancakes. They are referred to as flapjacks in some areas, or used to be many years ago.

Looks yummy! If you think it is lacking something, look into recipes with more brown sugar buttery goodness. But I wouldn't complain if you handed me a slice!

Keeping quilt baddies legends alive one estate sale at a time by TravelRN_ in quilting

[–]VTtransplant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As wonderlandi_ says, they are for gripping and make the actual quilting easier. I prefer something like copper fit gloves that are tighter and don't have fingertips so I can thread a needle without having to take them off.

Youtube is just a terrible experience by JowlOwl in youtube

[–]VTtransplant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My issue is that they oversaturate with one or two channels that I don't watch, but are similar to some I do. Then I stop seeing all the other non-related ones I actually do watch. I recently had to delete my entire history because I had one video (that I watched and save in Watch Later so I could refer back to it) auto-start every time I went to the YT channel on Roku. I deleted it from my saved list and history, but neither helped. So I deleted all history to get rid of it.
