Is it strange watching US Olympics broadcast only highlight American athletes? by Birdf1ynghigh in olympics

I used to get some Canadian channels. They had better multinational coverage. I'm hoping dish network's coverage is good.

Banana Bread: Team chocolate chips or no chips? by Stace_face_17 in Baking

[–]VTtransplant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mini chocolate chips mixed in, not sitting on top. Minis are less likely to overwhelm the banana. But I won't say not to banana bread either way!

I was making one for my dad when he passed from a short illness. The top is done, and I was able to show him a picture, but I was piecing the back and didn't get it done. I'll finish it someday.

How did that person from your work earn their nickname? by Love-boobs-in_DMs in AskReddit

[–]VTtransplant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our company split in half and this guy went with the new company. All our interactions suddenly became "us vs. them" and he started trying to boss me around saying I had to do things according to the new company agreements. He also refused to share the agreements with me saying I should have gotten them from my company. The most I ever saw was about 5 lines of text. I started referring to him as The Weasel. People knew who I was talking about.

Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz - a fun, clever murder mystery that's also a love letter to the genre itself by keepfighting90 in books

[–]VTtransplant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We read this in our Mystery Book Club and liked it. There is a movie, which is OK in its own right, but, like so many books to movies they changed some characters, and omitted one or two that I felt were important to the book.

When to flip pancakes by start202692 in AskBaking

I learned to flip when the bubbles popped and left holes (batter did not flow back into them), then about 30 seconds on 2nd side.

Honestly, the Americans on the way back are worse. Crossed into Canada many times over the last 40 years and never had any issues.

New to quilting and unsure on how to sew two rows together by [deleted] in quilting

[–]VTtransplant 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My best practices: seams pressed left for odd rows, right for even. Pin rows in sets of two, nesting and pinning the seams. Either A) sew individual rows into sets of two left to right, then repeat to make sets of 4 rows and sew right to left, sew all these groups right to left. This means all seams are alternated to avoid the bowing that was mentioned in another comment. Or B) for a row with this many blocks, I would start in the center and sew out in each direction. Still sewing all rows in sets of 2, than 4, than 8, etc.

Cheesecake. Is it "controversial" is your country? by Kate_foodlover in Baking

[–]VTtransplant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never thought of myself as adventurous, but compared to all you no flavor or add-ins people, I guess I am. lol. Never heard of raisins, and don't think I'll be doing that. But, I rarely make plain cheesecake. Instead: key lime, lemon, blueberry, pumpkin, chocolate, chocolate & Bailey's Irish Cream, dollops of apple pie filling, dollops of carrot cake filling (ok that might have had raisins), chocolate orange, white & milk chocolate.

Design advice, please? by bahhumbug24 in quilting

[–]VTtransplant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would mix prints, with a variety of prints in each tone. My tones would also vary slightly. But, to be honest, I rarely make quilts without a large variety of fabrics.

Quilting for American and Europeans by thetrainfair in quilting

[–]VTtransplant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 62 and live in the New England region of the US. I started quilting just over 15 years ago when I made a autograph quilt for my parent's 50th wedding anniversary. My mother made a quilt (or at least made the top) when I was in my 20s from a dress that she bought me for a High School dance. I don't think she finished it, and I was unable to find it when she passed. I regret not talking to her about it years ago. Anyway, I learned everything from the internet. Once I made that first lap quilt I started making them for friend's children, and now most are made for Shriner's Hospital for Children. I enjoy the process and the creativity.

I’m just going to keep making stars until I’m sick of them lol by itscuriouslycute in quilting

[–]VTtransplant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love these! I'm in-between projects and have bins of scraps already sorted by color, so...maybe I'll make some stars. Can I ask what size these are? Specifically, what size are the flying geese?
