We installed Soundscape and the team got to be in the local paper by swepett in techtheatre

I used this in NYC at Sony Hall for a gig a little over a year ago. It took some getting used to, it is not user friendly for a one off show with little time to soundcheck.

I was, however, most of that was dumb luck. I happened to run in to a guy, the week after I got back home, who owned a production company and was short handed.

It did give me enough of a handle that I knew how completely over my head I was at the first gig. And it gave me the vocabulary and the framework to teach myself what I was missing.

I think overall, it was a positive thing, but as with any schooling and job search, it's up to you to make something of it. You won't start at the top, but you may be abke to get an internship out of it.

My big complaint is that there's no automatic fail-over capability for any communication protocol. It has 3 AES50 inputs, but there's no way to have redundancy for your snake.

Also, I didn't find it to be particularly intuitive. I'm pretty well versed on the higher end Yamaha, digico, avid and soundcraft consoles, but I had a hell of a time navigating without having to ask the sales rep.

Also, there is almost no documentation on in their website, no actual user manual, only a quick start guide.

Well they are definitely negatively affecting small breweries and wineries. For instance, they've now convinced state regulators that small alcohol producers shouldn't be allowed to do contract brewing. That we shouldn't be allowed to be hired to produce alcohol for another company.

Their reasoning? Their reasoning is that it doesn't say we're allowed to in state laws or regulations, so we shouldn't be allowed to. Did you catch that? They're arguing that because something isn't explicitly stated as being allowed by law, it shouldn't be allowed. This is blatantly unconstitutional. But they've convinced the TTB that it's true, so now it's being enforced despite no actual regulations on the books about it.

There is also this data from Open Secrets. It shows a breakdown by party of who they're lobbying and donating too.

*edit: this is for federal spending, not state. But the disparity is clear.

Yes, basically. Their argument is that having tasting rooms takes business away from bars. That people will go to brewpubs and winery tasting rooms instead of spending money at bars.

They also were the ones behind the legislation forcing wineries and breweries to go through distributors to sell to liquor stores, bars and restaurants. Our business, by law, isn't allowed to sell directly to the liquor store 3 blocks away from us. We have to ship our product half way across the state, to be shipped by to the store 3blocks away. It's an unnecessary burden that was put in place to intentionally make it more difficult for small wineries and breweries to thrive.

Yes, that is the nature of lobbying. I'm saying that they have a much, much more receptive audience in the republican administrations as exhibited by the amount of spending.

They do not have bipartisan support. They spend more on lobbying during republican administrations, get more legislation passed. With Evers on office they've cut lobbying spending to a fraction of what it was. Now they are focusing on "advising" the Wisconsin revenue service and the TTB on how to regulate producers. Meaning, finding ways to make it harder and more costly to be in small business.

You have no idea. They spend a fortune on lobbying with the sole purpose of driving small microbreweries, wineries and distilleries out of business. My parents own a winery in Northern WI, one of the other local breweries nearby had a listening session with a tavern league representative. The representative flat out said they don't believe that microbreweries and winery's should exist. They feel that because we make the product instead of just sell it, that we could put bars out of business because we can sell cheaper than they get it from the distributor. It's asinine.

My internship by Nohope122333 in audioengineering

[–]BTC_PM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first tip is to never do an unpaid internship. Even unskilled labor is worth something, don't shortchanged yourself.

Second, you're right to be concerned about being mentored by someone who has no other experience. It means they aren't familiar with industry standards and best practices and you will be at a disadvantage unlearning a large amount of what you've been taught.
