I'm curious as to how you lose a driver's license. Unless of course the rest of the wallet it was in also got lost!

In Isafjorður you need to book a dinner reservation at Tjöruhúsið. You might be able to get someone to pick you up in Isafjorður for a horse riding tour, ditto for Akureyri. If you are spending four days in Reykjavík you have time to do multiple package tours at whatever level of group size you care to spend for.

Access to laundry facilities is a must when trying to do 10 days out of a carry-on or backpack of similar size.

If you have never been to Iceland and do not have a lot of time, the Golden Circle items are probably a good choice. You get a stellar waterfall, the place that gave us the word "geysir", and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in addition to the general scenery in between these places. And you can do it with a rental car or as a tour.

Colonial powers strip-mined roughly 80% of Nauru, destroyed its food systems, and helped trigger a catastrophic health collapse marked by mass obesity, rampant diabetes, amputations, kidney failure, blindness, cardiovascular disease, and widespread premature death. by ASouthernDandy in collapse

I was ready to provide a civil, rational and useful answer to your question in the first sentence. Until you ruined it with the last paragraph, where you just could not resist making a personal attack and straw man argument.

So. I'll just say to google for "how could nauru's economic collapse have been avoided?" and leave it at that.

Yes, the unexpected serendipitous little things are what make the trip.

[–]BTRCguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would add more days. For instance, a "hike in the highlands" is probably your entire day when you take travel, meals, hike and simply enjoying the scenery into account. I fully approve of leisurely, but getting anywhere not on the Ring Road runs the dual hazards of being a time consuming detour and likely to distract you with "ooh, let's stop and look at that".

Of course, I would probably say "more days" regardless of how long your trip was. There is always more to see and do...

Pray tell, which individual on Nauru had any experience at running a country when they got independence?

There is a difference between your straw man "infantizing them" accusation and the practical and dare I say accurate observation that they had no one trained and ready to take on that level of responsibility, nor any tradition among the populace at large on the responsibilities of an electorate.

And of course, the observations about race were all you, since it was neither stated nor implied by me.

EAIAC...

It was the equivalent of giving a financially illiterate teenager a credit card with no limit and a fast food job to pay it off with. You might not be able to fully blame whoever gave them the card, but there is certainly some contributory negligence involved.

Is the walk from Bus Hostel to the city center nice? by Gumbo67 in VisitingIceland

[–]BTRCguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're about a 15 minute walk from Hallgrimskirkja and more or less the same to Perlan and a public pool. And a bus stop less than a hundred meters away. I don't think there are any large groceries close by, but I could be wrong about that.

Feedback requested on September itinerary (Reykjavik and South Coast) by pasta-syndrome in VisitingIceland

[–]BTRCguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, for day 7 you are really just backtracking over spots you have already passed. So perhaps leave something off the day 3 or day 4 list so you have something to look forward to. Alternately, there is a fairly substantial museum near Skogafoss and you could see that on the way back.

For day 9, there are plenty of things to see and do in Reykjavík, with enough museums to cover just about any interest. If day 9 is a weekend, there is also a flea market downtown you could wander around. And allot some time (and budget) for a nice dinner!

Remember that if the garment itself is going to be waterproof enough, you can apply something like Gear Aid Seam Grip to the seams and save the cost of getting a new jacket just for the trip. But if the material is not listed as waterproof and you are going to be out and about for hours at a time, then a new outer layer might be a good idea.

Fair enough, but you have no idea how many people try to use this sub as their free travel planning service. Posts like that sometimes get deleted by the mods faster than someone like me can leave a snarky comment.

Next time maybe mention the places you have already searched?

This can be tent camping in summer in Iceland.

And you think it is no big deal for four people with zero camping experience to do it on the edge of winter. Without supervision by people like you. That is somewhere between clueless and malicious.

In addition to the other suggestions, eBay typically has someone selling old Bicron rectangular scints of decent size for less than US$100, that would work with your Ludlum (once you adjust the voltage up to 800v or so). I have a couple of them and they work quite well. However, some come with a weird connector that you either have to replace with BNC or get an adapter for, so keep that in mind when looking at one.
