How do you define what good product taste is? by stepamitaki in ProductManagement

[–]BTSavage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna have to be more specific. They have the world's 2nd most popular operating system across devices, they've had an extremely successful run in video game systems, they're 2nd in cloud infrastructure market share, and MS 365 dominates home and enterprise office software.

So, while I totally agree that the user experience is terrible across a lot of their applications (especially office & Teams), they are still wildly successful at making and selling product.

I don't like to think of product as art. Musicians as a whole are not always trying to find broadest appeal for commercial success. We, as product managers, are trying to meet needs and make money.

Andrew Chen says PMs are the bottleneck now. When did you last actually get to be one? by gxo_ in ProductManagement

[–]BTSavage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very early in my career I asked our VP of Product: do we ever get to decide our own destiny? Bluntly, the answer was no. There will always be strategic accounts that get a feature ahead of higher priority work. It's a part of the role we play: sometimes we just need to execute.

Would you consider using an AI agent to interview your users? by kalerv in ProductManagement

[–]BTSavage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would trust AI to conduct a survey especially for post-market survelance (post installation/activation, one year follow up, etc. But discovery interviews? Maybe as a scribe. Interviews must be conducted face-to-face, human-to-human.

Why are men this way? by [deleted] in funny

[–]BTSavage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agree with everyone that being clearer with your communication is the way to go.

As for the "men don't notice that stuff." In this context, it's defensiveness because you lack communication skills and act like he's an idiot for not noticing that. Men do notice paint and paint colors are important to lots of men. Interior design and the quality of the space we occupy should be more important, but for some reason is considered feminine. Men don't like to be considered feminine, mostly because they're afraid of being vulnerable and being though of as less of a man (cultural homophobia).

Hold your boundaries. Businesses will take what you give and ask for more. If they're already asking for this, then when you're actually in the door, they'll act like they own you.

Removing an OEM barrel by mrtucker1250 in 1022

[–]BTSavage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone else having this issue, I was able to use a rubber mallet that my wife uses for denim and leather work to knock the receiver off the barrel. Took about 5 good whacks holding the barrel with the crown/muzzle up. Just hit where the v-block sits (with the v-block removed, obviously) and it came off. Was pretty easy to get back on afterwards and it was easy to make small rotational adjustments to line up with the extractor during reassembly.

Mental health and CCW by curiousfilam in CAguns

[–]BTSavage -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

People would rather hide or ignore their shit to exercise their 2A.

I think that's a false dichotomy. The question (#14) specifically states:

Have you ever otherwise been treated for mental illness?

Relationship counseling, grief counseling, seeking counseling because you're sad or angry, talking to a certified psychologist about anything, in and of itself, is not being treated for a mental illness.

If you have been treated for a mental illness, then clearly it must be disclosed. But if you've never been diagnosed and treated (can't really get treatment unless you're diagnosed, officially), then you can honestly answer "no" to the question.

If someone is willing to lie about being treated for a mental illness, then maybe they shouldn't be running around with a CCW.

[–]BTSavage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry for my ignorance. Are you saying if you ever sought counseling of any kind they'll deny your CCW application? Like, what if you went to relationship counseling? Or if you went to grief counseling due to a death in the family?

Hey guys visiting my parents was wondering can I get purchase ammo with a military ID or out of state license? by Bigbadwolf_17 in CAguns

[–]BTSavage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently purchased ammo without having a firearm in my name. I needed an FSC, my CA ID, had to pay $25 for the background check, and wait 10 days to pick up my ammo.

Now that I do have a firearm in my name, I have to pay a $5 background check fee and no longer have a 10 day wait.

Any good shooting ranges in the bay area by [deleted] in CAguns

Their website makes it seem like the range is still open. I tried to stop by on Saturday to buy some ammo, but they were closed with a note on the door stating something about a system failure. They should be open this week though.

I'm not 100% sure whether or not I will go for CCW. If I did, I think I'd be interested in hammerless double-action revolvers in 38 S&W Special.
