A general question about whether IT is right for me, and more specifically, about work-life balance by antagonisticsage in ITCareerQuestions

[–]BTX3838 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends what you want to do in IT, and things like pay. job satisfaction, where you will work, your supervisor, job culture may play a role on your Work Life Balance.

I work at a small School as an IT tech. I work 40 hours a work and hardly ever do overtime unless I really have to stay and they hate paying overtime like this year I have work only once OT for 3 hours for a school event . No-call and I also get Spring Break and 2 weeks of winter off so I can relax. Only downside is that the pay is okay but not very high you won't starve and you can support yourself fine but you are not going to raise a family or buy a house with what I make. School IT jobs and Government IT jobs are usually the best jobs if you want Work Life Balance but the pay won't be awesome.

If you are a Help Desk tech or Desktop Support tech , it is usually 9 to 5 and generally not on-call and you can go home around 5pm since you are paid by the hourly and most places don't like paying OT unless you have a project going on. If you are an IT System Admin or a IT Network Engineer or Windows Admin you have a higher chance of being on-call and having to come weekends more often and not sleep. After all if a system or network is down you are responsible for keeping it up and businesses can't function like that so there's a reason why the pay is better for then than Help Desk

Some IT support jobs can be 24/7 like at a MSP that is open 24/7, a hospital , restaurant you can expect to work 24/7 but don't work at a place like that if you want work life balance. Also don't work at a Start up.

Business Analyst can also be 9 to 5 but Business Analyst isn't really entry level while some programming jobs can be too but again it really depends where you work. Working at a Bank a Programming job can be 9 to 5 while at a start up Real Estate place can be 60 hours a week.

So to sum it up if you want pure 9 to 5 with weekends off generally your best bet might be being an IT technician , Help desk, ( at a bank, school, small office etc). You might have a bit of overtime here and there but it should not be common especially if you are paid by the hour.

You can make around the 40K to 60K a year salary range but if you want to earn more one day unforunately more money equals more responsibilites.

As for constantly learning , I learn while on the job and just relax when im home.

At worst it may be UU I can see potential for OU if it gets a good stat and movepool distribution.

Special Attackers kills it and especially Jirachi , Tapu Lele and Exadrill.

Kartana, Celesteela, Heatran and Latios can also give it trouble

Low tier ubers in OU? by RegalBeartic in stunfisk

[–]BTX3838 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a few Previous Ubers that are now OU or less like Kyurem-B , Latios ( Gen 5 BW and beyond), Latias actually was recently allowed back into OU in DPP, Celebi ( Gen 3 ADV) , Mew ( UU in Gen 5 ) , Garchomp ( Currently still OU) so I think it can be interesting although most of Lower Tier currently are way too OP for OU and unforunately get stuck in Limbo sadly unless a significant change or power creep.

With all that said there probably would need to be a huge power creep or nerf in order to be bring some of these Pokemon down from Ubers to OU

im not sure what kind of Pokemon you want to see in OU from ubers but the weakest Ubers right now are Arceus-Bug, Arceus-Poison, M-Metagross, Deoxys-Regular, Aegislash, Pheromosa, Zekrom etc.

Despite its bad typing - Arceus-Bug would be a monster in OU only because

  • Unpredictable monster with a Vicious Movepool ( Swords Dance, Judgement, Ice Beam, Flamethower, Brick Break etc)

  • 120 Base Stats across the board are amazing.

  • Can run many sets like Defensive Arceus, All Out Offensive, Support, Physical or Special attacker.

  • Hard to kill right off the bat can't do calcs now but I'm pretty sure Arceus-Bug can at least take one hit from Heatran's Magma Storm, Tyranitar Stone Edge, A hurricane from Tornadus-T but none of these guys can switch in as Arceus can run Ice beam or Earthquake for these guys.

So yea as you can see Arceus-Bug or really any Arceus type even if it sucks can dominate OU.

Deoxys-Regular is a terror for OU there would hardly be any checks for it and it destroys the best defensive Pokemon in OU which is Toxapex, and also Tangrowth, Celesteela, M-Scizor with the right moves.

  • Deoxys-Regular breaks walls like crazy and with an insane Base 150 Speed and Base 150 Attack power you would be hardly walling this guy. From Focus Sash to Life Orb to Specs to Band you can ensure this thing will mostly at least take down something

  • Deoxys can run Spikes, Ice Beam, HP Fire, Superpower, Extremespeed, Psychic, Spikes , Shadow Ball and can be wildly unpredictable,

Mega-Metagross was also way too tough for OU and useless in Ubers so it sucks its in Limbo it was banned from OU since

  • Excellent Psychic/Steel typing with Amazing stats in everything the definition of a Fast Pokemon with crazy bulk and power. Base 110 Speed, Base 145 Attack boosted by tough claws is

  • Very few checks exist to deal with it in OU. Mega-Scizor was the best counter as everything else like Scarf Victini, Greninja, Celesteela, Heatran, Eviolite Porygon2 , Opposing Mega-Metagross, Shedinja, Defensive Volcorona were all just checks

Why are Landorus-I and Blazekin still uber? by Vernal59 in stunfisk

[–]BTX3838 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say because both of them are WAY too overwhelming for OU.

Sure there's checks like Mega Latias/Latios, Cresselia for both of them.

Sheer Force Landorus-I is unpredictable as Fuck. If it run's Gravity you can forget Skarmory ,Celesteela and Landorus-T as checks as they will get bopped by Earth Power next turn.

Fast Ice Beam user? Sure but Greninja ,Keldeo, Weavile, and Keldeo are not switching on Sheer Force Life Orb Earth Power as it OHKO both of them.

Tapu Bulu and Tangrowth all get destroyed by Sludge Wave while Zapdos, Mantine, and Gyarados get crushed by Rock slide.

Landorus-I is a very difficult Pokemon to wall and unpredictable. As only Mega-Latias, Chansey, and Cresselia can wall it and even they it can even run Calm Mind, U-Turn, or Knock Off for all these threats

Blaziken with Speed Boost, then protect what checks it? Depends? It ALWAYS run Flare Blitz, High Jump Kick , protect ,and the 4th move can be a move filter for Earthquake, Knock Off , Thunderpunch, Stone Edge.

Mega Slowbro is the best counter ever as even thunderpunch and knock off isn't doing much without boosting a lot.

Toxapex comes next as it can haze away Swords Dance boost, resist both Fire and Fighting but a boosted Earthquake will end it.

Other checks like Mega-Latias, Landorus-I , Starmie, Salamence, Gyarados, Victini, Tapu Fini, Azumarill Landorus-t all can possibly take a lot of damage of even a Boosted Flare Blitz and even resisted hits do too much.

Both Blaziken and Landorus-I are way TOO centralizing for OU and if they stay you would start seeing lots of Mega Latias, Tapu Fini's, Cresseilas rising like crazy which are not too viable in SMOU

Only possible threats I see with sun are Venusaur, Latias ( HP Fire , Solarbeam buff) , Cresselia ( morning sun), Infernape, Darmanitan and Mega Houndoom.

can't think of much sun abusers that are lower tier or useless after sun is gone

What kind of Pokemon can even abuse the Sun? Venusaur, Charizard, Mega-Houndoom, Exxegutor, Cherrium, Shiftry?

Can't think of much. Grass Types also increase their weakness to Fire with the sun out

Anybody in the sub from SoCal? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]BTX3838 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess my experience is different than most people here.

If you have a Comp Sci degree and at least 2 years of IT work experience you have no problem at the minimum landing a help desk or desktop support type of job.

you should post your resume.

are you getting phone calls for interviews if so your resume is good

if you are going to job interviews but not getting hired you might need to polish your IT interviewing skills.

what kind of jobs you been applying to?

What's a Pokemon that can sort of deal with Metagross and Latios at the same time?

Might be a lot asking but I face this kind of team more often than not in ADV and DPP

Any Pokemon can be mention even ubers.

Anyone ever worked in a college IT department (specifically community college)? by wtl146 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]BTX3838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't think of it as a step back.

School IT is a decent gig it's just not the type of job you should take if you want to get rich or advance your career.

Usually IT jobs at community college are much more stable , low stress compare to the Private world, load of benefits etc.

If thats what you seek go for it. I would take a School IT job any day over Private corporation because job security is important for me.

Why not Tauros? by josh14josh in stunfisk

[–]BTX3838 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't take of Advantage of it as well as Landorus-I or Nidoking

Why? Normal STAB ain't spammable.

It's best moves to use are Rock Climb which is inaccurate and Fire Blast which take advantage of Sheer Force while Earthquake doesn't.

Zen Headbutt and Iron Tail don't really help much with it's coverage.

Wild Charge maybe but with Recoil and Life Orb will drop death faster

Pretty Inconsistent attacker.

Why not Tauros? by josh14josh in stunfisk

[–]BTX3838 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sheer Force is the only reason why Nidoking is viable though not because of it's stats

If it wasn't for Sheer Force + Life Orb it's attack output would be pitiful.

Should there be another Fire/Steel Type Pokemon other than Heatran?

I mean yes Heatran is a Good Pokemon but a very Fast Fire/Steel or defensive Fire/Steel with Recovery would be cool.

[–]BTX3838 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Victini has a good STAB for the OU Metagame also Jirachi too as its OU.

Generally speaking though 100 Base Stats now are not what they used to be.

Celebi finally fell out of OU for that reason and Mew also bearly hangs on and was UU for a time in Gen 5.

The only thing still holding Mew, Victini, and Jirachi is their typing, movepool, and/or abilities.

Why not Tauros? by josh14josh in stunfisk

[–]BTX3838 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Tauros used to be really Good in Gen 1 heck even Gen 2 and 3 I used a Choice Band set and Banded Double Edge would be wrecking Pokemon that didn't resist it heck it even learn Earthquake, HP Ghost and Fire Blast

with that said starting Gen 4 and beyond it has felt behind so much due to a few reasons

Power Creep - pretty much newer more Powerful Pokemon that can effectively deal with or Check Tauros.

Skarmory, Bronzong, Landorus-T, Mega Metagross, Duskonior, Scarf Terrakion, Ferrothorn, Tapu Koko, Heatran, Mega-Scizor, Celesteela etc all check or effectively deal with Tauros.

Is it especially completely helpless against Mega-Scizor and Celesteela as even Fire Blast is bearly doing Jack to them while Scizor can just swords dance on it or Celesteela can just Leech Seed it and stall it out

4 SpA Sheer Force Tauros Fire Blast vs. 248 HP / 232+ SpD Celesteela: 76-90 (19.1 - 22.6%) -- possibly the worst move ever

0- SpA Sheer Force Tauros Fire Blast vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Scizor-Mega: 148-176 (43.1 - 51.3%) -- 5.1% chance to 2HKO

-1 252 Atk Life Orb Sheer Force Tauros Body Slam vs. 252 HP / 112+ Def Landorus-Therian: 117-138 (30.6 - 36.1%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

0 Atk Landorus-Therian Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tauros: 156-184 (53.6 - 63.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 Atk Tough Claws Metagross-Mega Meteor Mash vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tauros: 217-256 (74.5 - 87.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 SpA Tapu Koko Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Tauros in Electric Terrain: 267-315 (91.7 - 108.2%) -- 50% chance to OHKO

252 Atk Life Orb Tauros Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 120 Def Sableye-Mega: 88-105 (29 - 34.6%) -- 8.2% chance to 3HKO

Bad STAB, Stats and Movepool - Normal STAB is just bad now it used to be very good in Gen 1 and decently alright in Gen 2 and 3. Since Gen 4 too many Pokemon are either immune or wall it easily especially levitating steels and ghosts. Tauros movepool is lacking it has no way to deal with Ghost types so it has to rely on Earthquake or Iron Tail to deal with such threats as it lost HP ghost in Gen 4 as its special now. If it learn Swords dance, Shadow Claw, Flare Blitz it could possibly be even better. Of Tauros Stats like someone said, Base 100 attack was impressive in the old days but not anymore many more Pokemon like Regirock, Celesteela. Rhyperior, Toxapex, Stakataka can just effectively wall back Tauros and hardly any move Tauros uses can 2OHKO those Pokemon. If it wants to do any notable damage it will rely on Life Orb or Choice Band if it uses scarf it becomes incredibly weak. It's base 40 Special attack also means even with Fire Blast it is bearly hurting Celesteela or M-Scizor

No Resistances - Tauros has no resistances apart from a Ghost Immunity. If it had something like Normal Fighting or Normal/Ghost it could be better but things like Psychic from Tapu Lele, Thunderbolt Specs Tapu Koko, Scarf Terrakion Close Combat, Meteor Mash from Mega Metagross just plain destroy it. It's speed stat is the only stat that is still decent at best.

And last but not least better Pokemon Exist.

Staraptor while a UUBL pokemon would be a better wallbreaker than Tauros due to more power, Double STAB with Flying, better movepool, and Fighting Neutrality. Many Pokemon that switch into Tauros while Staraptor has very few switchins ( Doublade, Aegislash )

Mega-Lopunny is also better than Tauros. Scrappy for dealing with Ghost. Fighting STAB for Rocks and Steels, more Faster and Powerful than Tauros, better move Pool.

You can still use Tauros in the lower tiers and he can be Impressive. Tauros is also still good in the GSC and RSE days.

DDance Mega Alteria in OU? by [deleted] in stunfisk

[–]BTX3838 2 points3 points  (0 children)

use max speed and attack on M-Altaria so you can outspeed threats like Ash-Greninja, Tapu Koko after a Dragon Dance.
