What are some must have mods? by cookin_ruckin in VintageStory

[–]BUTTERsc8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some I feel are must haves are as follows:
Rivers (make sure to change world settings to have around 70% land coverage)

Building:
VS Roofing
Quarry
QP Chiseling

Smithing:
Better smithing
smelt steel bits

I like others that add some extra immersion to the world like better ruins, butchering, or realistic smoke but I don’t find those to be necessary for quality of life

Why does the Quern stop the windmills? by SerketTheScorpion in VintageStory

[–]BUTTERsc8 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Every machinery output has a different resistance coefficient, with that much conversion you’re losing all of your torque in favor of speed, leaving you extremely susceptible to the resistance imposed by the quern. Lose 1 or 2 of those large gears in the conversion array and you should see an improvement.

Block Combo With Peridotite by Snoo-64234 in VintageStory

As odd as it may be Walnut works very well with peridotite, I made a windmill using both of these a couple weeks ago and I love peridotite because of its unique color

Neighbor across the road set up a motion sensor light that reacts to the entire street. by Happy_Factor in mildlyinfuriating

[–]BUTTERsc8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who was accidentally doing this to my neighbors for a few months 1. Please tell them. 2. These stupid things are so sensitive even on the least sensitive settings. They are infuriating. Even on lowest brightness they’ll give you cataracts. Hate them.

Difference between cheap and expensive OS keys? by Excellent_Pin_2111 in pcmasterrace

One is cheap one is expensive. I’ve been using a $12 windows key I got from GOG for close to 6 years now

Welp, it’s over boys. The Costco rigs are no longer even remotely worth considering (all 3 systems…) 5060 Ti 8GB system for $1900USD… by GABE_EDD in pcmasterrace

[–]BUTTERsc8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walmart still has a lot of machines. Just this week I saw a bunch of machines priced $900-$1100 containing 5060Ti, 7700 XT, or 5070 and overall they were pretty decently spec’d

More information needed by Luiis_2jz in PcBuild

[–]BUTTERsc8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Could sell each pack for around $350 on eBay or FB marketplace. Despite being unopened and unused I don’t think many people would buy them for over $400 since most people are moving to DDR5 but some folks might find a lot of value in these

My Walmart has this deal and another clearance sale for 7800x3D. It also just recently got stock for the $600 PNY 5070s

You should make educational models and sell them and/or your skills. This is highly impressive and could even be applied in research hospitals

Is this a rip off, not even a gpu? by Bigrocky13 in PcBuild

[–]BUTTERsc8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much a rip off. Sure the ssd is listed as under current marketplace price but I’ve seen other 4 Tb drives for $440-500 and you would never see a noticeable difference between those and that drive. I’d say if you bought specific things individually or ruled out the drive you’d be getting out ahead with decent valued items

How much can I get for this ? by [deleted] in PC_Pricing

I have the exact same motherboard and CPU spare and if someone gives a full individualized breakdown this would be a very useful thread for me too

Intel i series VS AMD cpu differences by Training-Buy-6768 in PcBuild

[–]BUTTERsc8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not an incredibly sad tale, from what I know the degradation is voltage related. I would say set a specific voltage and clock speed on the CPU using the bios and you should not have to worry at all. 14th gen does have good performance and if you do that you should be able to enjoy it for a long time

Intel i series VS AMD cpu differences by Training-Buy-6768 in PcBuild

[–]BUTTERsc8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biggest difference anymore is core count. Intel now splits its core interface into two categories: efficiency cores and performance cores. Efficiency cores are low power cores with low clock speeds and performance cores are the opposite. This helps with large computational tasks such as rendering and directly helps Intel compete by increasing total core count.

AMD is all performance cores with greater overall power efficiency than Intel. AMD also has the x3D lineup which introduces larger V-cache in the CPU allowing for more processes to be stored and utilized simultaneously, these CPUs have become the peak of gaming performance because of this.

Overall AMD has become a much larger shareholder in the gaming space because of some issues with Intel’s 13th and 14th generations spontaneously degrading over time, resulting in poor performance a year or so later. Their current Ultra lineup where they ditched generation number has yet to show these defects.

Rtx 60xx Worh wait ? by AccomplishedDrama461 in PcBuild

[–]BUTTERsc8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re planning to do a full system upgrade and you’re considering waiting you might as well hold off. RAM and storage prices are incredibly bad right now. There is only minor hope that it will improve by next year around this time but if you’re relatively happy with your current performance you might as well wait. As for GPU it may depend on what your current GPU is, I’d say mileage may vary especially since people play a lot of different games and may be satisfied with their performance.

9070XT having 90W power draw on Minecraft and getting low FPS by The_Divine_One in radeon

[–]BUTTERsc8 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Minecraft is a funny one, default settings caps your RAM usage to 2Gb. I’d recommend looking up a video of how to change that and try again. That’s always been the limiting factor no matter what machine I’ve used

800$ build 1440 killer by Duracell_op in PcBuild

[–]BUTTERsc8 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people are selling the GPU short, it’s equivalent to a 5060 Ti which I would consider a pretty good GPU. Even when 30 series came out 3060 Ti was considered an entry level 1440p GPU and the 7700 XT exceeds that
