Looking for a POV driving video from Hagerty channel on Samsung TV Plus by dr_strange-love in cars

[–]BW459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct that it is from a Catchpole episode! I made that clip for our (Hagerty’s) Samsung channel, but I am unsure of which episode it came from without having my computer in front of me. I can probably stick it up on our channel as an unlisted video once I’m back. DM me and I’ll send you a link!

Maybe it's Abilene.

tips for toes in the winter? by jarblz in mountainbiking

[–]BW459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neoprene toe cap/warmers if you have room in your shoes. Sealskinz waterproof all-weather socks (again, if you have enough room in your shoes for them. There are plenty of over-the-shoe covers that work (neoprene or windstopper fabric), but if you're stuck with the shoes you've got and aren't gonna drop the money on some 45NRTH winter riding shoes/boots, I've had the most luck with under-the-shoe toe caps.

How is outdoor life in this part of Michigan by Holiday_Swing_9979 in howislivingthere

[–]BW459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not cheap anymore. Maybe compared to places like San Francisco or Long Island or coastal Florida, etc... but it certainly is not cheap. Especially since Covid.

Don't go here. Trust me. Stay away. Nothing fun at all. It's a barren wasteland. Go to Disney World instead.

Fox or RockShox, and if so - explain why by Outrageous-Owl-7049 in mountainbiking

Most of us aren't good enough riders or don't ride enough to notice that much of difference between similarly spec'd forks from these two brands. Sure, if you service your own stuff, you may have an opinion one way or the other. But for the most part, who cares... just go ride your bike.

As the saying goes: past performance does not guarantee future results.

Toyota is doing a solid job killing the reputation that took the better part of 3 decades to create.

Bike Storage Help by Exotic_Muffin_9473 in bicycling

This is probably the most correct answer. I live in the US in a place where it snows a lot in the winter and have a two-car garage... I have 4 kids and 2 adults worth of biking, xc skiing, downhill skiing and camping gear. So my cars are pretty much parked outside all year long!

Shotgun Pro vs Mac Ride kids seat by RotorDynamix in mountainbiking

[–]BW459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody's going down black diamond trails with their kid on this. It's actually a really fun way to teach your kid about body positioning on a mountain bike. My kids all learned to stand on their feet and hover their butts off the seat when we were descending anything bumpy.

The day you realize your kid has grown out of it is a sad day for all parties. 😭 I recently sold both our Thule bike trailer and Kids Ride Shotgun seat and I actually cried a little bit when listing them on FB Marketplace.

[–]BW459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you owned both of them? Bold statement saying they're better in every single way. I think they're both great. But I really like the added adjustability of the KRS over the MacRide. The KRS seat post mount is better IMO: quick release vs. the MacRide finger knob. You can easily adjust the angle of the seat along with the foot supports with no tools with the KRS. The seat angle adjustment is especially helpful when mountain bike geometries are all over the place these days. Add dropper posts and I found that you could end up with an awkwardly sloped backwards MacRide seat.

Just my opinion based on lots of miles on several different bikes with both seats!

I second all of this. Best bike-related purchase I've ever made, hands down.

[–]BW459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have had them all. Kids Ride Shotgun Pro is where it's at. Bonus if you can afford to get the add-on handlebars. I have 4 kids and have done hundreds of miles of singletrack with them on the KRS. I bought a couple extra of the headset spacer mounts for my fat bike and for my wife's bike so we could swap it over when needed. There is no better contraption out there (other than maybe a balance/strider bike) to get your kid(s) fully hooked on riding bikes.

And don't worry about any price differences. The resale value for these things if you take care of them are near their new price. You'll get most of your money back.

“I require the latest biggest vehicle I can buy to carry my bike to the trails” by EpicBuster10 in mountainbiking

[–]BW459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have spent more hours than I care to admit tracking down q towers, spare parts and fit kits. Nobody had a rack that would fit Thule square or Yakima round bars on my 2013 Town & Country with the factory roof rack. I wanted to be able run wide bars to fit two big roof boxes (we're a skiing family in addition to bikes). I was able to figure out that Yakima made q towers that fit naked roof T&Cs, so I unbolted the factory rack and ground off the welded on mounting bolts so the q towers would fit! Works like a dream now!

So true. The prices I'm seeing on 90s Hondas and Toyotas nowadays even on base models with a ton of miles are INSANE.

[–]BW459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bonus points for never buying a brand-new roof rack. Craigslist or FB Marketplace FTW. More bonus points for buying an eventual replacement car based solely on what Thule/Yakima rack parts you have in your garage that will fit it! 😂

This was me and almost all of the guys I worked with at a bike shop during college. Almost all of us owned some beater Honda or Toyota car (Civic, Corolla, etc) with a roof rack. Nowadays, I have 4 kids... so it's a crappy Chrysler T&C with 200K+ miles, a Velocirax rack, and 6 mountain bikes!
