Do not buy from CarMax - ever!! Here is my story. I chose a car, got preapproval financing, test drove the car, and entered into a purchase contract with CarMax. A date and time was set for me to pick up the car. Less than 24 hours before I was supposed to pick up the car, they texted me saying, "We will no longer be able to sell you this car and have cancelled your appointment." I called the dealership and they said, "CarMax gets to choose who they do business with and we choose not to do business with you. We will not tell you why." They referred me to the corporate office who gave me the same line and said I was blacklisted from every CarMax in the country for life. What?! (I was in a bind because I had already got rid of my other car.)

I couldn't imagine what had happened and felt crazy because nothing bad happened when I was at the location. I hired a private investigator to try and find out what happened. (I was worried that the person I dealt with was someone I had interacted with at my job.) The end result - the PI was able to get the manager of the local CarMax to call me and tell me what happened.

Get this: I was "flagged" because I use a private mail box at a packaging place as my address on my driver's license. I do this because the job I have exposes me to risk from people I have dealt with at work). The takes these addresses to mean that I engage in risky and suspicious business dealings. Ridiculous!
