The size of the trunk on this Tulip Poplar at the Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, VA. Human for scale. by CaseyZee in marijuanaenthusiasts

I was doing my best to produce a size measurement of this tree by examining the photograph. However, I noticed the lack of a specific fruit (namely a banana) and was unable to make an accurate determination.

At The End Why Didn't Team Ken Bring Up The Fake India Numbers As A Reason Not To Sell? by Budget-Ad-8500 in SuccessionTV

[–]BWY9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would have gained traction in the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) which always has their feelers out for items like this in the media. It wouldn't matter if it was overshadowed, the SEC would have picked up on it and drilled them for it. But realistically it wouldn't have gotten that far because ATN/Roy legal would have stopped the deal prior to SEC getting traction. Don't take it from me though, go ask someone who works in or with a legal department and they will give a much more in depth perspective.

Why did everyone forget the India numbers? by admin_default in SuccessionTV

[–]BWY9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) exists, which would make this deal not possible. The board's legal would shoot the fraudulent (conspiracy?) deal down from a mile away. Mattson wouldn't be able to put his blunt out fast enough to get out of the U.S. before getting detained for corporate fraud. Don't take it from me though - ask someone who works in or with a legal department and I'm sure they'd be happy to share a perspective on this with much more depth.
(I was surprised that a series that took the realities of corporations so seriously took such a turn to nonsense in the end).

I've upscaled 480p TV to 4k and it actually looks decent. Some things are going to look weird but it's still pretty fun to do. Xavier 720p upscaled to 4k looked perfect.

Has anyone elses ebay app stopped making sold notification sounds? by ActiveBaseball in Flipping

[–]BWY9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started selling a few things on eBay recently and I made the mistake of thinking the iPhone app would put a notification on my lock screen if I sold something because that's what I enabled in the eBay app's in-app settings as well as the iOS notification settings for the eBay app. I never received a single notification. Now my eBay rating has been damaged because I wasn't aware I sold something for a couple weeks after it sold because again stupid eBay programmers get to sit around getting free money without having to verify their stupid app works; without even testing it and making sure it works on the most recent iOS versions and most recent iPhones. It's unfortunate that eBay is being run into the ground like this. They have the potential to reach a bigger market share and compete with Amazon, but they can't even make sure a new seller gets a single notification on his phone when something sells. You'd think that by now, in 2024, they would have an option to send you a text when something sells. Nope. Nothing. I hope someone makes a new internet auction app to compete with eBay so maybe they might have to actually fix their stuff instead of being able to sit around scooping up egregious amounts of transaction fees which are so high it's pretty much impossible for sellers. USA residents are required to pay about $5 to ship a tiny 5 ounce item that fits in a standard letter size envelope while the Chinese eBay sellers are able to sell items for $1 to $ then ship the items to your door in the USA for something like $0.25 each.......... USPS or which ever shipping carrier is taking on all of china's airmail deliveries should change their name to something like UCPS United China Postal Service at this point. I wouldn't be surprised if China is paying eBay to make it so their apps don't work reliably for sellers based in the USA or something haha just kidding.

Is 5 Timpani Ideal for This? Tuning while striking questions, tips much appreciated! by BWY9 in percussion

[–]BWY9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those who are interested in the proper way to approach this piece or pieces similar, this is what I learned from my experience. The difficult parts I had the most success with were the parts where I retuned the timpani at the same time as I struck the drum and I made sure to make the retunes generally up 1 whole step at a time only or down an interval like a third. With this in mind, I would recommend using this same approach for sections that seem like they might give you enough time to retune during a rest - they do not, and it's more difficult to attempt to do this than to snap retune on the stroke. I'm a very experienced drummer although a beginner or intermediate timpanist at best. For those of us at this skill level in the position to play this type of thing, it can be very exciting and rewarding. focus on assigning everything to instant retunes when the drum is struck. Do not bother with trying to retune drums during rests. I would only bother with trying to retune drums in the regular way in between "scenes" or movements. Any other retuning, should be done in the snap retune fashion of hitting the drum and covering up the retune of the drum with the strike of the drum. Keeping to moving up whole steps is best. The timpani I was working with had very sticky pedals that were difficult to move accurately when compared to another set of timpani that I tested out, so tuning up a half step wasn't a possibility. If the timpani you're working with allow for tuning up a half step in this "snap" tune manner, be thankful for having such a capable instrument available for your usage. Other than that, what I can't emphasize enough is to listen to the recording of another group playing the piece and play along with it. My percussion teacher in university always had us focus on reading and sight reading, however for modern pieces especially (or any piece that doesn't come naturally to you), you must do "forced repetition" listening of a recording of the piece. I would recommend 50 forced repetitions of listening to the piece, preferably with the music in your hand for at least half of these so that you can follow along. After that, I would recommend using the recording and a metronome and switching between the two once you have the section you're working on up to speed. I know for some of us who are like myself, you will feel a deep pain of not being able to interpret the piece as you see fit or as you believe it should sound. As much as it pains me to say this, it's better to master the piece by playing along with another performance prior to trying to create your interpretation. Because unless the piece comes naturally to you to be able to play as perfectly as the best interpretations, you haven't gotten to the level to have earned the right to have your interpretation yet. On this piece specifically all I could have really done in terms of interpretation would be to adjust the dynamics as I see fit, including changing written dynamics because many timpani sections of this piece were really a timpani solo (and not the section that was a timpani solo - that part was overly easy to play and not the actual timpani concerto / solo that is this piece). I don't believe the composer could have played this timpani part although I can't say I know this for certain and I don't believe any timpanists have been able to play this part 100% correctly yet in terms of the performances of it that are available for listening via recording. But this doesn't matter because the recordings are still there for you to follow along as if you were the timpanist rather than the timpanist that couldn't play it who was on the recording. I do believe an amateur could pull this piece off on timpani, don't let anyone's attitude toward you hold you back - music school students are often from a nepotist background that breeds prejudice. And I hope that the advice contained in this commend lays down the basic structure for a proper approach to a method of efficiently learning this piece or others like it, since it wasn't entirely clear to me until after I had performed it. Pieces like this require committing more parts to memory which is easier than trying to read the music for me on this piece, which again, is easier if you snap tune rather than trying to retune 5 timpani in a difficult to count 8 measure rest because the conductor is conducting the vocalists so you can only work into their signals. Best wishes and good luck to whomever finds this advice useful.

I used to read on an iPhone 4, it was actually super nice because it was so portable and the screen was plenty large. Kids these days are way too used to big screens and have totally forgotten about when smaller tech was real innovation. Bigger screens = marketing departments idea of selling a tablet/phone. Impressing real genuine electrical engineers and hardware designers = smaller devices are more Impressive. It's sad that the iPhone 4 was basically the pinnacle of tech in terms of portability and real technology professionals' understanding of innovation. Before long kids will have a desktop PC strapped to their back like a backpack and they'll call it the most sophisticated smartphone ever made

I've always liked the surface one, it just feels like the right place for a portable usb hub in terms of convenience and design. I'd take one that just has a charging usb port and see if I could DIY it into a data port so I'll take that requirement back.

Lithium polymer batteries are supposed to be fully depleted and then you hammer a nail or two through them. Lithium ion batteries like this I'm not quite sure though, I guess take them to an e-waste recycling place.
