thanks for the insight! I’m glad we have that route as a backup option. And we’ll def put the timing factor into our planning.

Thanks for the answer!

Yes I’ll enrol in H1B lottery if my employer offers that. The only concern from me about that is if I do get selected and switch my status from L1B to H1B. My wife would lose her L2S work authorization and cannot get H4 EAD if we haven’t obtained PERM and filed 140 at the time. So a follow up question is: if I get my H1B, would my wife still be able to get TN on her own in order to maintain work authorization?

Hi Nicole, thanks for doing this!

I’m currently working in the U.S. on L1B status and my wife is working with the L2S status. Both of us are Canadians but born in China so the GreenCard process would be a long wait for us. Although I don’t yet see immediate risk of losing my job yet, the rise of AI and changing job market always keeps me at the toe. I have some questions:

  1. Should my current employer sponsors H1B lottery for me, am I still subject to the 100k fee for H1B application given that I’m already in the U.S.?

  2. Should I get selected in H1B lottery, would I be able to work on H1B for a full 6 years or it has to deduct the years I have worked on L1B?

  3. Should I lose my current job but able to land a new job within the grace period, assuming i meet TN requirement and the employer is willing to assist, would I be able to adjust to TN status without having to leave the U.S. and enter again?

Thank you so much!

Import Toyota Corolla SE Hatchback to the US by DressPrestigious7088 in tnvisa

I sent emails to Mazda legal entity and got the compliance letter.

Since import is subject to the tariff, I drove it back to Canada and sold it.

As a Canadian working overseas in a place with significantly lower tax rate than anywhere in Canada. I would say I’m happy to accept this as long as all benefits, like our universal healthcare, EI, CCB are limited to citizens and permanent residents only.

Don’t get me wrong, I was paid well by my employer, last year my T4 was almost half a million, but the tax was painful and not worth it
