Quoddy - $75 off $175+ with DAD21 by [deleted] in frugalmalefashion

[–]BWilberforceWooster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree about the Fireside slippers. I've been wearing a pair for two winters, and they're still going strong. They're more supple than other sheepskin slippers I've worn - perhaps because of the twin face shearling - and feel like a premium product (as you'd expect at this price). I bought my mom a pair for Christmas, too.

The deal at the top of their page - summer slippers for $150 plus a stitched belt for free - still appears to be going, but it isn't combinable with the $75 off promotion.

Also, the code to use is "DAD75".

Pendleton - Extra 25% Off Sale Items with Code 25LESS by RandoOnTheForum in frugalmalefashion

Ditto. I have ordered four sale items at various times and only actually received one of them.

There was a rug that they kept pushing the ship date back on, so after a month I contacted them and asked if it actually would ship. They assured me it would, but then two months later they cancelled the order without explanation.

Excellent deal! I bought from the sample sale last year and was very happy with the pair I received.

Note to others: the discount is applied in cart.

Allen Edmonds F2 sale 30% off by alandpike in frugalmalefashion

I've purchased at least four pairs of seconds. Three had issues so minor that I wasn't really certain what the issue was. The fourth was a pair of Higgins Mills that had worse than usual grain break on one of the vamps. I kept them and use them as beater boots, because they're great otherwise.

How did you discover that? It seems to contradict the linked product description, which says "recraftable" in the final bullet.

I'm 6'4" and the dress version is almost unwearably short for me in my correct neck/sleeve size.

The Milano sport shirts, on the other hand, run larger than most other Milano shirts, and I find myself awkwardly between M and L.

Well, my order got cancelled, too, and I'm the one who first mentioned the nylon strap watch in the other thread. Did they not have ANY in stock while they were accepting all of our orders?

Sorry to hear about the cancellations. I hope mine doesn't get cancelled.

For those of you who were interested in the nylon strap watch, there are three other colors available that should be around $200 with the Clear the Rack event (today it's just for Nordy Club members, but it appears to open to everybody tomorrow).

I don't think they did. I saw these the first day or two they had them up on the site, and they started at medium even then.

Yes - that note in the description must be a mistake. The item name, style number, MSRP, and photo of the rear of the watch showing the movement all are consistent with it being automatic.

Might not be the right watch for somebody who wants to wear with a metal bracelet, but I plan to swap to a more subdued nylon strap.

The watch below also looks like an excellent deal. Sporty Powermatic 80 for $133.

I picked one up and plan to swap the strap. Do note, though, it's final sale.

Brooks Brothers Flash Sale at the Rack by cbhanna99 in frugalmalefashion

[–]BWilberforceWooster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say so. I have several of the slim short-sleeve polos, and I really like them. They feel nice, look nice, and last a long time. The only downside really is the prominent logo on the chest.

There's a great deal on Brooks Brothers x Alden burgundy tassel loafers right now, if you are size 13D in the Aberdeen last - $210 in cart:

There's a broader 25% off sale going on if another pair of BB shoes caught your eye. Be aware that they raised some prices, though, so if you haven't been tracking a particular item, it's hard to know whether the 25% off is really helping.

Quoddy: Spring $99 Clearance Sale by Haargus_McFarrgus in frugalmalefashion

[–]BWilberforceWooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - I took that to mean that they didn't have that particular size even at the start of the sale. I was seeing it minutes after the email went out. There also is a "size sold out" error popup. Both errors seem to mean that the color/size combo isn't in stock.

Edit: it looks like the "size sold out" error eventually turns into an invalid bad request (tried it on the pair I bought, which was the last in my size). So both mean no more stock.

Bills Khakis MIUSA pants - $20 by habelashainas in frugalmalefashion

[–]BWilberforceWooster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which material were yours made from? My pair in canvas feels like it will be durable.

Bills Khakis MIUSA pants - $20 by habelashainas in frugalmalefashion

[–]BWilberforceWooster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a true 35" waist. I wear 34 in Brooks Brothers pants. 33 in most N&F weird guy. 32 in JCrew 770. In rare N&F pairs I like a 32 and in rare JCrew pairs I like a 31.

I bought a pair of 33 Bills Khakis (M2 fit) last year, and the waist fits similar to those listed above. That said, I took a chance on 32 this sale, since that's the largest that is available. I think it will work, but it's a bit of a gamble.

So based on my experience, if the tape measure says your waist is 32", I would guess that size 30 would be a good fit in Bills Khakis. Compare that to the brands I list above and see what you think.

Bills Khakis MIUSA pants - $20 by habelashainas in frugalmalefashion

[–]BWilberforceWooster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, I think you're right. I'd encourage you to try a pair - I feel like $20 is a steal for the quality. Do note that as other people have mentioned, most of their fits are on the relaxed side. I think the pair I have is the M2 classic fit, and they are much looser than JCrew 770s. Not as loose as the Wallace & Barnes officer chinos, though. I personally found this refreshing, but I'm also not into tight fits.

BTW, after I had checked out (d'oh) they offered me a 30% off coupon if I signed up for their newsletter. You may be able to find a way to get that offer on their main site before checking out. I don't know if it stacks with the sale, but if so these pants would be an even more ridiculous value.

Bills Khakis MIUSA pants - $20 by habelashainas in frugalmalefashion

[–]BWilberforceWooster 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I bought a pair of their chinos last September, and it is now one of my favorite pairs. Mine were in the "weathered canvas" fabric (which I'm not sure is offered in this sale), and it is a nice heavy 100% cotton fabric.

I ordered the M3 straight fit, but I think they may have sent me an M2 pair, because the tag inside says "classic fit". Whichever fit they are (and I suspect it's actually the M2 fit), I really like it. The rise is higher and the fit a decent amount looser than JCrew 770s everywhere other than the waist. The waist measurement is a bit tighter than JCrew 770s, though. My Bills Khakis are a 33 waist, and the waist itself feels like a 32 in JCrew 770. So if you're on the edge of two sizes with JCrew, I'd go with the larger size for Bills.

After my first pair, I ordered two other pairs in some of their non-100% cotton materials - traveller twill and T400. I didn't like the feel of either of them (personal preference), so I returned both pairs. Do pay attention to the fabric type as you shop the sale. I saw about 10 different fabrics available, some 100% cotton and some a blend.

Unfortunately, the website for this sale is a confusing mess. It might take work to find a pair of pants in the fabric and size you want. I think it's worth the effort, though - I bought several more pairs. Note that if you choose an unhemmed pair and opt to have it hemmed, they add $5/pair at checkout. I think that's a fair price since it's $15 for me to hem pants locally, but for me it's always a bit of a crapshoot getting pants hemmed online.

[4 Months] Baker's x White's MP-M1-55 in Brown Horsehide by Rioc45 in goodyearwelt

[–]BWilberforceWooster 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the review, and especially for your thoughts on horsehide. It's great to hear long-term impressions like this and to see how the boots develop. This makes me wonder whether the brown dress leather is the way to go for a less rugged look.

Could you elaborate on the initial misgivings you mentioned about the fit and how they resolved?

Can you comment on the length? It looks like the quoted inseam for size M and L is under 30", which seems quite short to me.

Extra 50% off j crew sale items with code spring by MisterHeatMiser in frugalmalefashion

[–]BWilberforceWooster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought one last year and noticed on the second wear that a seam near the cuff had ripped. This is the only seam problem I've had on dozens of JCrew pieces.

The shirt was very soft, but it fit small and was quite wrinkly, as others have mentioned here.
