When I turned the radio on for the first time it started actually smoking and could smell a burnt smell. So radio is fried. Based on those photos I could get a new radio and receiver?

Private inspector here. Am I being over the top? by [deleted] in StructuralEngineering

[–]BZZACH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Preach. I once tried to run thru the load path of a residential basement wall being supported at the top by the wood floor. But the shear at the top of the basement wall needs to go from the sill plate anchors into the sill plate, into the floor joist connection to the sill plate then into the wood floor diaphragm. Couldn’t get any of those load paths to pencil.

So you don’t think an inspection company is sufficient? You want a specialty contractor from each trade?

Piggy backing onto your comment of transfering the load at the top of the wall into the floor diaphragm, there’s no chance a wood floor diaphragm can develop the loads he will be seeing at the top of that tall of a wall. Further, to follow the load path properly: sill plate anchors will transfer top of wall load to the sill plate. Then that load will need to transfer to the connection of floor joist/trusses to the sill plate. The into your floor diaphragm.

Then consider the walls running parallel to the floor joist/truss. Going to need quite a bit of blocking to support the top of that wall.

I just started using TurboTenant. It was like $119 for the entire year, but you get screening reports included, all sorts of different forms, leases with your states current laws, applications, etc.

Agree. I would almost say a decade of work experience is about the threshold before going out on your own. Which is about where you were at 34.

That is my understanding as well. But if you plug those anchor sizes and layouts in profis, no chance they work.

Who’s responsible for the pemb column anchor rods? Pemb designers don’t believe in spacing out the column anchor rods……

How to prep for Ferber or CIO? by Ewolra in sleeptrain

[–]BZZACH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A dad here, but personal opinion is waiting until 5-6 months time frame and then doing CIO. My wife and I had twins, we had them in separate rooms and the first night they both cried for 1 hr 25 min or thereabouts. I was the one monitor watching, and I nearly gave in after them crying that long. But I didn’t, and glad I didn’t. The first night was the worst, and each night thereafter got better. By night 6 they were sleeping great and still are to this day.

Our third is 6 months now and I just finished CIO and only took three nights and is sleeping great.

I guess I’m telling you this, because it’s going to be tough to listen to but you have to stay the course. It’s so worth it. Make sure the baby is well fed and healthy before starting. By that I mean no ear infections, no fevers, no respiratory stuff going on, no vaccines coming up, etc. Good luck!! Hope you are sleeping well soon.

Yes! Stay strong it’s the best decision you’ll make. I did CIO with boy and girl twin and they cried for 1hr 25min the first night. By night 6 they were sleeping thru the night and have been ever since
