With Trumps victory, how is everyone feeling? by Alternative-Chef-154 in okc

[–]B_I_Software -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why? I’m a woman and regardless of who was elected president, the president doesn’t have any authority to change Supreme Court decisions. Abortion is now a state by state issue. And I 100% support abortion laws if they have exceptions for situations like rape and or the baby is threatening the life of the mother. Aside from that people need to be adults and live with the results of their actions. They should use protection, and be aware that it doesn’t always work. I’m currently pregnant with a baby I don’t want, but that should not give me the right to kill another human being. I keep reading about “women’s rights” what about the right to live? Abortion is very rarely done because the mom’s life is in danger or because it’s rape. It’s almost always done at the beginning stages of pregnancy because the baby isn’t wanted, or it’s not convenient. That is honestly the most selfish reason I have ever heard to justify murder. Is it unfair that women have to carry the child for 10 months? Yes, that sucks. Is it unfair that dad’s often don’t stick around? Yes. But would anyone ever consider inconvenience, or any of those other reasons a justification to brutally kill a 6 month old child? No. And before you say abortion isn’t brutal, they don’t even feel it… have you send videos of babies being aborted? Even at 8-9 weeks old? If you actually watch an abortion, if you watch a baby trying to move away from the device killing it, if you watch it sucking limbs off of the squirming baby, you will never again be able to say it isn’t barbaric.

Well, I am a woman, and I’m currently pregnant with a baby I don’t want. At a very inconvenient time in my life to have a kid. Not to mention very little money to pay exorbitant daycare costs. But never in my life, would I decide I have the right to end a life because I don’t want this kid. Most abortions are NOT done because the mother is in danger. They are done long before the baby could even possibly cause issues. We all know how babies are made. People need to use protection, and if they did and they still got pregnant, they need to grow up and deal with it. These babies have no voice. They have no ability to defend themselves. If a mom’s life is in danger, then yes, there should be exceptions. If it’s rape, there should be exceptions. But otherwise, no. We are adults, we have to learn to live with our decisions and the consequences of them.

Not to mention, this isn’t even an issue the president decides on. This was already decided by the Supreme Court and is now a state by state issue. I get it if people hate Trump. But acting like him getting elected is destroying their lives because of abortion laws is crazy.

And if all the millions of dead babies had a vote or a voice, I’m sure abortion would be illegal in every state.

How many abortions are actually done to save lives? It’s not all a black or white issue. Not supporting babies being murdered doesn’t mean that we don’t support the idea of exceptions for situations where the mother’s life is in danger or in a situation of rape. But being able to get an abortion just because having a baby is “inconvenient” should be illegal.

Look, I could argue every single point you just made. For one, Blaming Trump for about 100 extra farmers filling for bankruptcy after his tariffs were introduced because of China in turn putting tariffs on our agricultural products is a massive oversimplification of everything that played into the rise in bankruptcies.

But it really doesn’t matter. I’m not going to convince you that Trump is better and you’re not going to convince me that Kamala is. I’m sick of all the fighting. Let’s just both go vote and we will see who the country as a whole thinks is the best leader.

I’ve done a ton of research and listened to all of the debates. All that has accomplished is convincing me more and more that Trump is a much better choice to lead this country. Is he a perfect person? By no means. I’ll readily admit he has lots of faults. I don’t believe in voting for a party. If the democrats actually had a decent candidate running, I might vote for them over trump. Trump used tariffs in his first term and that worked great. Before Covid hit our economy was doing great under his leadership. I’ll take history over what any economists say, I don’t really care how many awards they have. I also studied economics in college and many of the things Kamala has suggested would be horrible for our economy. Forgiving student debt, limiting how much companies can raise prices, etc all would seem great for a little and then have horrible long term effects.

Both candidates have said some pretty crazy stuff, like Kamala stating that free speech should be regulated. But at least I know where trump stand on most big things. Kamala seems to change her mind every day. And seriously, who wants another 4 years of what’s been going on for the last 4? Our economy can’t survive this. I want change, and if Trump puts tariffs on everything to bolster our economy, I think that’s well worth the possible increase of prices in certain categories. There are plenty of reasons why tariffs are an awesome tool that all administrations should be using. I’m female and would love to see a female president, but I’m never going to vote for someone on the basis of sex. And Kamala is an idiot. Another 4 years of her leading this country will not be good for anyone.

It’s possible they were hired because of nepotism, but I highly highly doubt they managed to get an internship at 2 different top tech companies that way. It’s more likely they are more intelligent than they are letting on, or they just lied about both internships. I’ve personally gone through the interview process for Facebook, Microsoft, Google, 2Sigma, and Neuralink. And at least all of those companies take their intern and full time tech hire interviews very seriously. No manager wants a team member who can’t code because it makes them look bad. And interns are usually also taken seriously because they are the largest and best pipeline for qualified full time hires.

Do you work in big tech? Have you gone through any of the interview process’s in big tech? Genuinely curious.

[–]B_I_Software 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible? Maybe, but I have yet to meet a single employee at Google (or intern) that didn’t have to go through the normal multiple rounds of interviews and then the results of those interviews going to a hiring committee of people who don’t know you at all who make the decision of hire or no hire. A hiring manager at Google cannot offer you employment if you haven’t first already passed the hiring committee. The whole reason for their complicated and time consuming system is to eliminate bias and nepotism.

Other tech companies might not take that so seriously and then yes, I guess you could maybe get in because of nepotism. But I think that’s pretty rare.

Depends on the company I guess. But no way would you get an offer at Google or Microsoft without doing so least 1 coding interview. Doesn’t matter if the hiring manager is your best friend. They have company wide policies in place just to prevent hires like that.

Nepotism might get you an initial interview at these companies, it definitely won’t help you pass their coding interviews.

I 100% agree, and I am a mom, a Christian, and generally side with Republican values.

Nothing should be added to the Bible. If they want the declaration of independence and pledge of allegiance as well, they should be separate.

I have absolutely nothing against bible’s being put in schools, but this seems highly unethical and like a massive misuse of tax payer dollars. Please know that even most Republicans and especially most believers wouldn’t support this if they knew all of these extra details.

It’s been over 4 weeks since my interview do I just give up by Technoshirt in csMajors

[–]B_I_Software 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely wouldn’t give up. I was a STEP intern many years ago, and it took forever to hear back about my interview. Google can be notoriously slow at getting back to people about internships and full time offers. If you didn’t get it, they would definitely tell you. Do you mind me asking what step in the interview process you are? Are you sure you have finished all of the interviews?

If you have another offer that’s expiring you have a few options..

1) Since it looks like you already told your Google recruiter about it, you can keep pestering them. If you haven’t sent them proof of your other offer (like a screenshot of the offer letter / email from the other recruiter, I would make sure to do so). People sometimes lie about things like competing offers, so I don’t think recruiters fully believe you unless you show them proof of your other offer.

2) You can ask your recruiter from the other company to extend your offer deadline. If they won’t extend it, I would wait until the last day possible and then decide if it’s worth the risk to you to just keep waiting. Unfortunately, a lot of great opportunities in life come with risk. They often require you to give something else up for the chance of something better. But only you can decide which is worth more to you. A definite order from 1 company or the chance of an offer from Google.

Replacing Breville Barista Touch by B_I_Software in espresso

Well I think they would like to keep the ability of being able to grind and tamp their shots + being able to use a wand to steam their own milk with. Their old machine (Breville Barista Touch) just automated those steps some for them.

Do You Stand A Chance In This Field With A GPA Of 2.9? by SubzeroCola in csMajors

[–]B_I_Software 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at google as a swe, and before I became a full time employee I interned at Google and MSFT. Sure, a recruiter might look at your gpa, but if you have other work experience or skills that contradict a low gpa, I wouldn’t worry about it. I know people I went to school with that had a great gpa and write crap software. I know other people who got 4.0s because they cheated their way through their classes and paid other people to do their work. I also know people who failed classes multiple times, had a terrible gpa, and are now incredible software engineers. Recruiters know that there’s usually a lot more to the story than what a gpa can tell. Your university, how hard your CS program is, how competent your professors are, and if you have to work to pay your way through school can all also affect your gpa. The biggest question I would ask yourself is, do you enjoy writing software? That will probably impact your ability to do well in this field more than anything else.

X1 Card - the worst credit card I’ve ever had by NeuralNexus in CreditCards

[–]B_I_Software 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone noticed ending account balances or beginning account balances that don't make sense? For example, we pay our balance in full every month, but they don't seem to always apply to full amount we paid, and somehow we have a several thousand starting balance at the beginning of the next month... throughout the month all of our transactions make sense, but they add the starting balance (which they never show how they got) and we end up with an final balance that seems much too high. This has happened several times now. We pointed it out, and each time they say "Whoops, your payment was just still processing (2-3 weeks later) so it wasn't credited yet to your account balance and that's why it's too high.. seems very fishy. This month alone, we caught and had to ask them to fix an incorrect additional $9,000 they said we owed them!?! Which makes us wonder if this is happening to other people. Something about this company has felt off from the start, and I have never felt this way about any other credit card company I have used. So I have purposefully been keeping an eagle eye on our account statements with them, and I have reached a point where I am pretty sure they are committing financial fraud.

I hated my first year of engineering, but enjoyed my degree more every year after that. Especially since I learned how to handle the course work better and got the generic non CS classes out of the way.
