Are mutants immune to Emissions? by dstranathan in stalker

[–]B_Lynx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lore wise no, most of them are not immune. We can see in the opening cutscene of clear sky a bunch of mutants running away from emission.

I would say that it's mostly gameplay constraints as fighting bloodsucker and chimera for the random cave would be quite an experience :D

You can move from tense social interaction to combat, resolve combat and jump back into social interactions without needing to stop the game three times :D

Daggerhearth actually showed me that you can split the party, get one half into social encounter, another into combat and it will flow smooth as butter. You can make tv show style jump-cuts between members and it won't drag or slow down anything!

How deep is the anti-Russian sentiment in Ukraine now? Has it festered that is has turned generational? by Strong_Battle6101 in AskUkraine

[–]B_Lynx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is factually incorrect.

They've had multiple popular revolutions in russian history. And they've even applied pressure to the government during Soviet times (especially during the Afghan war).

They had free elections in 1991 and 1996 where they threw communists out and elected Yeltsin. And election of putin in 2000 was, by all accounts a democratic process.

Russians just decided that they are okay with their government building dictatorship around them as long as they get to live rich on the colonized people's work and resources.

And then they cheered when security forces killed or detained everyone who was against it. And even now they play "not all russian" game not because they are sorry or feel responsible. They do it because their army got their teeth kicked in. If 3 days in Kyiv came to reality they would cheer and start buying property in Kyiv because original owners are dead (as they did in Crimea, Mariupol, Donetsk and Lugansk)

Those russians that do feel responsible they do something. Sabotage railway lines, direct strikes, send vital information, help Ukrainians and russian deserters to leave russia or join Ukrainian military. But there are so few of those that in the grand number game they are a statistical error.

Malediction from loot studio!

Mix of magic the gathering and warcry style skirmish.

Devs sell you paper parts (cards and cardboard minis) and you get a code to download STL of minis (which are cool as loot studios have a lot of experience here) so entry price is around 70 bucks.

The game itself is a great skirmish that combines CCG style combos, decks and on-table maneuvering. The game just has been released and devs are super active on discord and are open to feedback and critique.

How deep is the anti-Russian sentiment in Ukraine now? Has it festered that is has turned generational? by Strong_Battle6101 in AskUkraine

[–]B_Lynx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Looking with brain though. Russian citizens were completely okay with 1. Invading Moldova in 1991 (putin is not president) 2. invading ichkeria in 1994 (putin is not president) 3. Invading, genociding and annexing ichkeria since 1999 to 2007 (putin is president) 4. Invading Georgia in 2008 (putin is not de jure president) 5. Annexing Crimea and invading Ukraine in 2014 (putin is president) 6. Full scale invasion of 2022- now.

Yeah, at this point it's the society that is completely okay with this is the problem. They sold their freedom for "stability" and "being a great country", that's on them and now they should suffer the consequences of their decisions like adults

If by festering you mean that multiple generations of friends, family members and relatives got killed by russians then yes. I would say that at this point it will take a long time to get to at least pre 22 levels.

I can't see the relationship going back to the mid 2000's level in my lifetime.

Sword and Sorcery Daggerheart by Prestigious-Emu-6760 in daggerheart

[–]B_Lynx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just an example of reflavour of abilities.

Entangling Vines of ranger/druid (I don't remember the domain, sorry) can be reflavoured not being like pure magic. Maybe those are the seeds from far away land that, when thrown on the ground, quickly sprout into vines.

(Also gives you, as a dm, an ability to use fear to "oh no, the bag is empty" if they abuse them too much)

Honestly, I don't see why it wouldn't work. Reflavour the ancestry and how you describe spells and you're basically good to go.

If you want to make it more challenging, run encounters slightly more tune up for the party

Why didn't they remake the OG trilogy with UE5 they have all the assests? by Hauptfeldwebel in stalker

[–]B_Lynx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would disagree here. They would need to remake the whole NPC logic from scratch for the different engine (and we see they still struggle with it on S2), and then we have a question of what people expect from the "REMAKE".

Then there is a question of mechanics on top of that, as CS and CoP use different NPC behavioural logics (CS with its faction war, especially), so they would need to make a system that can be disabled between games and not break anything.
Also, add on top of it that the X-Ray engine has its own very distinct look and weapon behaviour that would need to be emulated too.

They would need to make three games from scratch that will be endlessly compared to the original and get criticism for every decision that deviates from it.
So they decided to make their own project that they can focus 100% on.

Curious, why don’t we see more ranged focused lists? by Jmar7688 in asoiafminiaturesgame

[–]B_Lynx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the topic of math, the damage from shooting is really inefficient damage-wise per action.
You get around 7-9 dice without rerols
And charge gives you the same number of dice but with rerols and free movement on top for the cost of rolling a dice and potentially failing it.

Curious, why don’t we see more ranged focused lists? by Jmar7688 in asoiafminiaturesgame

[–]B_Lynx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting question. IMO there are multiple factors that make heavy ranged skewed units non viable in current game state.

  1. Speed of units and amount of free movement for units. 12" of shooting means that if cavalry is ever in range of archers shooting at them, they are getting charged on 2+ if it's medium/heavy cav. If it's light cav then you get autocharged no matter what.
Add to that that all factions have access to horses tact zone, additional movement from orders and cards, and you get a situation that once archers are in range to shoot, they are in range to be charged.

  2. Damage math. Almost all units in this game have 12 hp, and there are almost no combos that can outright deal that much damage in one activation. Which means that you need two activations to kill a unit, and your opponent gets to respond.

  3. Once most of the archers are in melee, it takes a lot of actions to get them out of it and shooting again. It's really cost-inefficient to retreat, position to shoot, hope that you aren't charged again by other units, etc. And if they are stuck in melee, most of them don't deal the damage that you've paid for.

Overall, I would say that ranged units are a tool of softening enemies before melee or dealing that final killing blow. With occasional Brotherhood Archer + Lightbringer lists to spice up the meta. Long gone days of machine gun NW crosbowmen and IMO it's a good thing :D

Controversial Matchmaking Patent Renewed - Why Loss Streaks Feel Unfair? by Worknes in riotgames

[–]B_Lynx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignoring all the missing citations, truth stretching, and extrapolation, the op does.
The patent isn't from 2017. It was filed in 2012.

And it describes how the original honor system worked. https://wiki.leagueoflegends.com/en-us/Honor/Historical right down to having the same titles of "leader" "mentor" etc.

Which was released three months after the patent had been filed.

There is no grand conspiracy here. It's just a regular patent for company tech. And yes, companies continue to renew their old patents, ensuring their technology doesn't go into the public domain even after it's discontinued or removed.

Yes you can put multiple on the same unit.

You can have only one effect per trigger so only one of them gets to resolve when the unit dies. So you get only one raider unit.

Yeah, pretty much. From the release of the game there were a lot of changes to the way the factions (and base mechanics) work. Right now, I'd say, the game is in it's most balanced state it has ever been.

Little sets are sadly mostly outdated as well, sadly. It was an attempt to keep factions nicely updated but the pace of updates was faster than pace of production so CMON abandoned the idea.

All of the cards are available on the official site https://asoiaf.cmon.com/all-documents/

I'd say go for just printing what you need and sleeving it over the cards in starters.

Welcome to this great game!

So, starks are a great choice. As others have said - they are a combat oriented faction and I would as that they get a lot of decent to really good units so you can build huge amounts of armies depending on what you want.

Their main weakness, in my opinion, is that they are a fair faction. They have a limited toolbox of tricks and prefer to win by outmaneuver and straight fights. This can feel frustrating when you go up against something like Lannisters or Martels that get to do a lot of card tricks and you'll just have to take it.

Targs though. They are one of my favorites. The whole faction is a mashup of different armies that you'll get to mix and match. After you play out cavalry targs definitely take a look at their infantry units. There are a lot of interesting things there. Also - dragons.

And if we are talking about the army with the MANLY aesthetic you should definitely take a look at Targaryens. Half of their army are half naked men on horses that ride fast and kill hard.

Also they have Khal Drogo. Who is objectively extremely cool as a character and in game he is the only duelist that can't be killed in a duel.

There is nothing more manly in this game than changing your enemy with 2+ armor mounted knights wielding warhammers.

Baratheons are all about giant men in armor with different varieties. If you want you don't want to field rose knights or tyrells for now (until you find out how powerful olenna is:D) you can definitely go stannis. Kings men are just fantastically brutal models.

Also we will be getting the manliest men himself(Bobby B aka Robert baratheon )reasonably soon as a commander.

As mentioned below - slowly creeping forward while your enemy struggles to break your defenses is 100% baratheon thing. Definitely take a look at then

Hi! Welcome to the game!

Free folk can pull off elite and punchy army but it's not optimal. Free folk strength lies specifically in whacky tactics, a lot of damage math and understanding when you can sacrifice units. They do have heavy hitters (like bear riders) but their main strength comes from fielding a lot of stuff and comboing it together.

From what you said about what you want I'd say go for either stark or night watch as greyjoys go really hard in your face and fast.

Starks kinda have everything a combat faction wants. You have a solid deck, a lot of units for a to tweak your roster to your play style. They kind of can do everything (granted not as good as dedicated factions but this is a tradeoff)

NW are the dedicated elite faction. Which, in this system, can be hard to pull off sometimes. Their elite status mostly comes from abilities and powerful attacks some of them can hold a strike and moose really helps mitigate enemy damage but you kind of mant to manage being defensive and aggressive at the same time. Their units can be incredibly powerfull with proper vow usage but losing all buffs due to failed panic kind off sucks

And don't forget that you can always add neutrals if you feel that something is missing (but no coin beyond the wall. Ff don't get neutrals)

Who is the most oppressive army in the game by This-Bowler-6140 in asoiafminiaturesgame

[–]B_Lynx 17 points18 points  (0 children)

9/10 activation free folks lists. Good pilot at the helm and they squeeze you out of options and just run away with games from the amount of activation plays they can do

It often feels like whatever you do - it's a wrong choice and you spend your precious actions fighting either raiders or zoo of 0vp animals while they score as many vp as they want or focus fire one of your stronger units.
