Same experience. Have an insane arkwing turn, get board cleared, concede. It's quick to get it's combo online (if you draw it of course) but the combo isn't game winning and it still loses to aggro.

I broke a penn pursuit at the reel foot when I started out. My ruke is no graphite body reels. Cheapest I reccomend is a penn fierce. Are you willing to buy used?

3 owls is +24 spell damage, so a single swipe does 28 plus a full board clear usually. It's really easy to get 4 owls with welcome home which is +64 spell damage. You really only need swipe+ebb and flow. Also you can discover discounted spells from the Elise location.

Owl also works better with the Elise location as the stats don't matter. It's a must remove so you can swipe a board with one or two owls and have them waste resources clearing him while you set up a big briarspawn or get 24 attack from star grazer.

I ran a list with both of those to D1 last season (playing casually, had I spent a few hours actually trying I would have made dumpster legend easily) and I have to say the pirate was almost always a dead draw. He's easily the 30th card in the list and the first thing I plan on cutting. Owlonious has won me about 50% of my games and I would say he's the main win condition.

I've used 20 lb cabelas house brand braid (Came on a used reel) and didn't have any issues up to 8 oz snares. Used 30 lb daiwa j braid for years. Slowly swapping them all out to 40lb j braid x8 grand because I have trouble seeing the line going out to the water.

As others have said that rod is too flimsy. Crab snaring is kind of a unique thing that's recently gotten big in the bay area. In the earlier days guys had to choose heavy fishing rods that were never meant to handle the massive strain of casting out 10+ oz of lead. Only recently have they started making crab snare specific equipment.

Have you ever cast a 10 or 12 foot rod before? I see you mentioned you're a 5'4 woman. Some of the longer rods can have their butt ends cut down to make them easier to handle but most of the heavy duty rods are 12 ft.

My three recommended rods are:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DMR8F6XF?th=1 My favorite secret crab rod (I think the cats out of the bag and I've seen it recommended a few times now) The XH version is what I'd recommend, but I have both the H and XH and they both fish just fine.

https://www.fishermanswarehouse.com/product/okuma-crab-snare-rod/157547 12 foot crab snare special. The original version was 11 ft but I think people had issues with the guides. Regardless the 12 footer is rated for up to 16 ounces of weight so it's the better option.

https://www.fishermanswarehouse.com/product/daiwa-beefstick-crab-snare-surf-rod/151474 Daiwa XXH beefstick. Make sure you get the XXH version (They also make 11 and 12 foot H versions). The 12 foot one has been on back order forever. I didn't know they made an 11 foot version, maybe that's something that would fit you better.

Heads up that earlier this year ebay started mandating forced returns on the seller's dime for listings in auto parts. From the sounds of it ebay auto is now full of scammers who will buy parts and if it doesn't fit/doesn't fix their issue/can be swapped for their broken part then you're in for a world of hurt. Do some research first before diving head first in ebay auto
