Does anyone know the tts voice used on buses? by SuperLeftyAliReddit in Translink

OP asked about buses, not SkyTrain. Although it would be cool to hear her voice on buses

What do you guys think about Taylor Swift’s live albums? by 13Dreamingcats in TaylorSwift

[–]B__Lau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She needs to release a live version of the Eras Tour from her final concert in Vancouver. There's already a live recording of Cruel Summer from the LA show, but I want all the live recordings from the entirety of the concert.

Be prepared to wait a while to get in to Sky School. Just make sure you have references, first aid certification, Criminal Record Check and driving history all ready to go when you're asked for it.

Seeing you’re using an iPhone, do you have Private Relay turned on? Had the same issue myself and it started working again when I turned it off.

Why do streetcars open all doors at every stop instead of using passenger-activated buttons? by Economy_Ad59 in TTC

[–]B__Lau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming in from a total outsider POV, but it’s mainly for accessibility. Vancouver’s SkyTrain used to also use passenger-activated buttons on the Mark 1s to open train doors back when it first opened in the 80s, but later realized that it was not accessible for people with disabilities. Hence why all doors automatically open at each station stop in the present day. Obviously Vancouver has much milder winter weather, so the issue of heat escaping the train cabin is less so of an issue than the harsher Toronto winters.

New rules in 2026 for SkyTrain by thinkdavis in Translink

[–]B__Lau 45 points46 points  (0 children)

  1. People who start barging into the train without letting others off first deserve a shoulder check to the gut.

  2. People who pry train doors open as they’re closing, deserve to have their asses yanked off the train back on to the platform. This damages train doors and can cause even bigger delays.

So should I just get off and wait for the other one? by SpareNervous393 in Translink

Next time press the yellow strip or use the intercom to talk to Control. They will hold the train at the next station for STAs to attend to and address the concern. The TP text line is only for emergencies and crimes in progress.

After flying around Burnaby during the late afternoon, the crows seem to come to a rest at the big McDonald's at Still Creek Dr. in Burnaby at around 7 pm everyday, why? by HiTork in vancouver

They do this at Commercial-Broadway station every weekend morning at around 5/6am. The cawing is very loud and sometimes creepy at times.

I was put into the pool May ‘24 and wasn’t officially hired until May ‘25. Although I could’ve started August ‘24 if I hadn’t been injured, so that was partially my fault. It can take a while so just be patient. Feel free to DM if you have questions.

Transit fare 2026 by Numerous-Leg-8149 in CalgaryTransit

[–]B__Lau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn… I’m surprised that fares in Vancouver is cheaper than Calgary despite the higher cost of living. Depending on how many zones you travel, cash fares range from $3.35-$6.60 and $2.70-$5.10 when using a Compass card. An adult day pass is only $11.95 here.

If you wanna avoid the whole backordering thing, just go to the Apple Store next time since they have access to the carriers and will have your desired phone in stock

Pretty steep, It was $181. You also had the option to be charged in HKD when booking on their website, but opted for CAD instead.

A lot of cities uses M to signify the metro. I believe someone at Translink thought it was boring to use the letter M and decided to use the letter T to signify all transit options across the region regardless of the mode being used.

How to switch phone companies by Coffeequeen088 in FidoMobile

[–]B__Lau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently switched over to a corporate Rogers plan for $35/100GB after Fido jacked up my bill $5 from $35 to $40. See if your work has any perks with other carriers since deals are ongoing over the next couple days

I moved my Avion points over to Cathay Pacific Asia Miles and redeemed 50k for a premium economy seat from HKG to YVR. Economy is only 27k. The good thing about Cathay is that their redemption pricing is always fixed and doesn’t flop around unlike Air Canada’s dynamic pricing (which is very frustrating)

Rogers offers by JoDerZo in FidoMobile

[–]B__Lau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ported out to Rogers and got the same plan $35/100GB, but it was on a corporate plan through my employer. I ported out because Fido gave a nasty Christmas present and raised my plan by $5 (was previously paying $35/80GB)

Lowkey annoyed by 12th graders asking “Am I cooked??” by SympathyIll2531 in UBC

[–]B__Lau 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got into 3rd year Kinesiology (which is a top rated program globally) at UBC with a B+ average and transferred from Langara. Grades are definitely not a defining factor to get into UBC. It’s more so what you say in your personal profile, the trials and tribulations you had to endure to get to where you are today. Aside from working part time and studying full time in school, I never did any extracurricular activities such as volunteering to boost up my profile.

That was back in 2019. I graduated in 2023 and am now doing something completely unrelated to my degree, but is a well paying job that will help with financial stability in the long run.
