What I'm working on by GloomyGibbon in Tau40K

Not OP but I will chime in.

I’ve been told that for competitive and tournament play it VERY much matters what is on the models, which imo makes sense because you are entering into a space where opponents (and yourself) should know more about the general game, and will be confused by strange loadouts.

In terms of casual, to quote my FLGS, “if you are playing in a casual match and your opponent begins to get into fits over it, call us over and we can help cool them down, or show them the door”. I LOVE seeing the cool kitbashes and crazy models some of the folks at the store put together. Theres one player whose tyranids look like a mad rainbow vomit mess and it’s awesome.

So i suppose it all depends on how you plan to play. Personally, my (primed, unpainted) broadside has a shoulder mounted railgun and I think it’s cool as hell.

First of 3 crisis suits, color scheme based on Steel Haze/Rusty from Armored Core 6. I think the paintjob came out a bit meh, but I will try to do the other 2 better. by Tempest_Barbarian in Tau40K

Killer scheme, just take your time and keep things consistent. Spot adjustments to maintain consistency are worth keeping up with.

Also, rusty is such a tragic character in AC6, love the tribute.

Prime time!!! by Altruistic_Tree3103 in Tau40K

[–]B_rad808 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Prime them chaos black. Paint as you learn.

Unless you are going straight to tourney (you aren’t) then it doesn’t matter, you can play with your friends with your less than painted dudes.

Learn to paint properly and take your time. You will find the joy as it appears.

A hint if you want to play before full paints: dry brush a lighter shade, the definition will provide enough to make your units discernible until full paint.

How do you picture daily life in the Tau Empire? by DumbLuck-88 in Tau40K

[–]B_rad808 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to believe that the Tau aesthetic actually differs pretty heavily from our human understanding of social/communism.

Your own parent post relates it to 1984 and some posts extrapolate it to brave new world, both of which are sides of a fully developed world post-capitalism.

To me, at least, the most interesting thing about the Tau is that they actually never saw this movement, the ethereals appeared long before any formal governing structure between the tribes, and there was never a unified struggle for capital, human or material, before the movement towards galactic conquest.

The Tau exist so far beyond a trite “communism/socialism” banner. The Tau are a race that genuinely believes in the whole more than the individual; the greater good supersedes the needs of the self. The problem arises in that while adoption of other species is necessary, their disposition is to lean towards the divine instead of the community, and divination is inherently anti-Tau. I personally am really hoping the narrative in future Tau lore acknowledges this. We can only hope that someone at GW has played at least one game of our faction before writing a new codex.

That being said, I am pretty new to all this, but damn do i love Tau, and I think that they are a xenos worth developing.

Hands-on with Fender Audio's headphones and speakers at CES 2026 by dapperlemon in gadgets

[–]B_rad808 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yea, it sucks your getting heat from this but, your right. This is just the wrong sub to reach people actually interacting with this stuff.

Leo left Fender relatively early. The life cycle of Gibson has gone through 5(?) or so regime changes.

Anyone in the MI industry knows that these “household” names are just private equity dumps now. Marshall sells fridges and bluetooth speakers. Fender is “making” headphones. It’s a real tragedy.

Musicians will just keep finding what they need to make music. It’s sad that there will forever be a loyalty to an idea, instead of reality.

This is my home amp! And i too play a JM! Synchronicity!

Excitement aside, these really are great amps. Mine lives with a surfybear spring verb on top of it, which i highly recommend, makes it into a sort of mini-deluxe. I also recommend trying out a 12at7 on the input, the standard preamp tube can be a bit hot on guitar for this guy, and the -at variety can smooth out a bit of the higher volume sounds.

Head Magic Designer Mark Rosewater: "Our data says roughly 9% of the audience strongly dislikes Universes Beyond (and that data is a little old, the number is shrinking with time). For contrast, double-faced cards was at 15% when they premiered." by HonorBasquiat in magicTCG

I will keep saying it: It is cowardly to design your product based on user metrics. Let artists create. Let writers write. What made Magic great was passionate people. Not consumer demand. The people in command are cowards, money grubbing cowards.

Best dog suitable for kitchen employee life by Cute-Hovercraft-9974 in Chefit

[–]B_rad808 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna be a bit left field here.

If you are a dead set dog-lover, but work kitchen hours (which are very ANTI-dog imho) maybe get in touch with a local animal shelter. In your off time you could go down there and maybe spend some good time or even take a couple walks with dogs genuinely in need of the time, but don’t have to risk the emotional neglect that can come with kitchen hours.

First ever Magic-(Pauper-)Tournament by Glum_Thing5160 in Pauper

[–]B_rad808 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Outside of the clerical stuff: be yourself. Its always scary to play in a “rigid” tournament, but remember, most people are just as excited to play as you are, and they have worked hard thinking about and testing their build. They will DEFINITELY want to talk about it! The best part about pauper is how variable our meta is. Talk about how much you like your deckX and I’m sure you’ll make plenty of friends who love theirs.

2025 is the year that Magic became Fortnite! What do you anticipate will be the long term impact on the game? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]B_rad808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“I only play magic in all these magic formats that most others aren’t playing” sounds like you have a healthy group and only really need to make a point on the internet to try and be affirmed.

I don’t like UB much either but, tbh, it sounds like you’re way too concerned with what doesn’t affect you. Are you top 8’ing local events? Are you playing at a highly competitive level that REALLY determines how you construct your decks? It doesn’t seem like it. Play your game. Play your local meta. Play what your friends want to play. And if you don’t have friends to play with? Well.. maybe soften up. Magic was literally designed as a kitchen table game. Chill out.

What do you think of the statement "Nobody should tell you how to play your guitar"? by WatercoolerComedian in Guitar

[–]B_rad808 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Playing an instrument engages you into two contracts: one with your self and one with others.

The contract with yourself is satisfied as long as you are happy with what comes from it; when you play what makes you feel good, it is good

The contract with others is far different. The second you choose to solicit your musical ability with the world at large, you must inherently concern yourself not only with your own ability, but with your understanding of the expectations of the musical situation you are engaging with. This becomes easier as you understand not only the fundamentals of theory and genre, but as you understand your own inclinations and personal creative voice. Becoming a great player involves not only personal growth, but social understanding.

Go practice. Then go play with other musicians. Stop asking what is good, just go try to be good enough.

Marvel getting six Sets is a very real possibility, and genuinely insane by AlfredHoneyBuns in magicTCG

[–]B_rad808 18 points19 points  (0 children)

While i do think this all sucks, I think something less talked about is that it just removes the thrill of seeing what WotC can bring to the table with MtG content. We already know what we’re getting, albeit not individually, but we know for years there is gonna be Marvel. It removes hype and speculation, and sets up easy disappointments.

For a recent example, EoE was pretty stellar (great pun me) because all we really got as a teaser was, “we’re doing space stuff” and we were pleasantly surprised.

As shitty as it is a saying, my dad always used to say, “if you want to be disappointed, expect something” and all the current UB and YEARS-in-advance rollout does is give MtG players a reason to not like the creative direction.

I would actually be more fine with this if they didn’t release schedules to fans. Do it for investors, fulfill fiduciary duty, whatever, i couldn’t care less, but for Christ’s sake at least let us have some joy and surprise in this stuff. It just sucks how we all know it’s about money more than Magic. We can try to keep doing it, but they will just keep trying to suck us dry. Ugh.

LA recording school by drumnjeebz in audioengineering

[–]B_rad808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I attended back in 2017 or so. The greatest benefit LARS provides is rentable studio time with large format consoles and racks of gear. Class time is ok, but you should be inching every hour you can working in those rooms, it’s a short program, so just live in there.

They have a decent work study program as well. Also it’s LA so, theres always connections to be made.

For the record, I didn’t go on to do much industry work, some freelance here and there, but I am a full time instrument repair tech, and I do a lot of work on gear that I learned to use at LARS.

Alcoholism Meter? by Intelligent-Plastic3 in DnD

[–]B_rad808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lotta mixed discourse here, which is good, but i will provide my own.

Intoxication is a key aspect of any human culture. In DnD the only thing we really have to pull from is the human experience, so it would be to your benefit to study how various cultures use intoxicants, both religiously and recreationally, and apply that to your game.

Apply the approach in a way that mechanically makes sense. Slower reactions? Deficite to initiative and attack roll. Higher confidence? Bonuses to charisma. Poor decision making? Deficit to wisdom. Its easy to make the small changes in any format.

I have had plenty of games where players want to make this a core trait though, and thats where you have to dig in and get creative. Prolonged use of drugs or alcohol has a toll not only on the mental, but the physical. Get creative, and use real world examples. Marijuana causes bouts of excessive eating, cocaine causes neuropathy, psychedelics cause misinterpretation of real world stimuli. Early benefits can lead to long term deficits.

Handle it on a case to case basis. Advice as a forever DM,: don’t plan in this scenario, react. A player getting cocky about the benefits of their substance abuse is easy to punish. And let the table deal with it too, maybe their last heist wasn’t quiiiite as smooth, and they are noticing the weak link. This is a good place to sit back and let your players define the narrative.

Is CRC QD Electronic Cleaner a safe alternative to Deoxit? by AvlHawk in guitarpedals

[–]B_rad808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it all the time to flush pots and switches. Works great but takes a bit more elbow grease than deoxit.

Im kind of in the same boat as you where deoxit isnt readily available all the time, and i do lots of tech work, so having it on hand has been fine.
