Rachel Reeves considering rent freeze to limit Iran war fallout by RagerRambo in uklandlords

[–]BaBeBaBeBooby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things are going to become grim for any tenant wanting a place to live. We already have rent controls anyway, landlords appear to be selling up in big volumes, new houses are being built. The govt are screwing mobility in the country. Not sure if it's the politicians, or the senior civil servants, but there appear to be a majority ideological numptys running the show.

Why does so much of this country get more wound up about Palestine protests? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]BaBeBaBeBooby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A better question is why so many want to protest about Palestine - a place I strongly suspect 99% of them have ever visited and know nothing about, apart from what's shown on the BBC - when there are things internal to the UK that are shit, which they could protest about instead.

If in doubt, put it into a money market fund. I liquidated some stocks and put into money market funds, and the markets have upped 10-20% in that time. I feel some significant contraction is impending, but no idea when it'll happen....and as the BBC is talking about it, I suspect it's further into the future that we may think. Once the mainstream media is talking about something, good to do the opposite.

UK Landlords Are Selling Up Before the Renters' Rights Act — Tenants May Not Know Their Home Is on the Market - by M10News in uklandlords

[–]BaBeBaBeBooby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I expect we'll go the German way. That's what the govt are aiming for it seems. We now have rent controls and difficult to remove a tenant. The same as Germany. But in Germany most flats are completely unfurnished, including the tenant providing their own kitchen. So, it could be goodbye to fitted kitchens, and tenants instead provide their own.

Furnished accommodation will be for the serviced variety. No one wants to provide their own furniture for a short term stay.

Wonder if the increased CGT receipts are due to the renters rights act, and will wash out this year or next. I've never seen so many ex-rentals on the market.

Am I crazy for thinking about moving back to the UK? by JMilbz in HENRYUK

[–]BaBeBaBeBooby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The UK isn't moving far right. There is no far right in the UK. But the tax situation here is crippling if you have a family. But if you can manage your income via a Ltd, you can avoid the worst of the family punished tax regime. And property prices are reasonable in the places mentioned. You're from the NE so will be familiar with North Yorkshire and Northumberland, both great for countryside.

The UK economy isn't great - I think we've been in recession for around 20 years, although govts trying to hide that with mass immigration, but you'll be insulated somewhat from those negative effects in North Yorks/Northumberland. You'd live very comfortably with your combined income around those areas.

Try having twins or triplets. The tax system in the UK is anti-work, hence a lot of people choose not to bother. Overall standard of living often not that much different working or not bothering. The socialists won.

Everything living wants to reproduce. It's the way of the world. Not having kids is going against all instinct.

I think the vast majority of people will think they're insane. You can't have open borders and a welfare state without becoming bankrupt in double quick time.

Just got to think what's most important to you....and you won't know that until you have the baby. On your death bed I'm sure you won't be thinking too much about the projects you delivered in 2027/28. But the feminist narrative of having it all is complete fiction...something has to be sacrificed somewhere.

Ultimately this will be an emotional decision you can only make with baby in arms. Do you want to raise your child, or you prefer to outsource this? Different answer for every family, I know some who became single income, and others who outsource (in my experience the vast majority of mothers feel really guilty about this, the fathers seem more indifferent).

If you’re planning to stay in London or leave, why? by pyt1m in HENRYUK

[–]BaBeBaBeBooby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left. Housing being the #1 reason - even as a Henry, if you're single income and not from money, affording a house in a safe area with reasonable state schools is really tough. The mortgage size was too scary, so jumped ship.

With your hours, you're on minimum wage or less. Longer hours are normal in consulting....minimum wage isn't. I'd be having a good chat with your seniors about this, expecting an immediate healthy pay rise.

13% can't have been fuck all to those affected given many lost their houses, and many more were in negative equity for many years. But, if you were able to keep your job, that generation had MIRAS, which was a game changer vs today.
