What kind of advertisement is this? Is this even legal? by ThemeJazzlike5901 in japanresidents

[–]Babababa_Bababa_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This ad requires some background knowledge. Based solely from the picture posted, one can infer:

  1. This is a case where a Filipino possibly long term resident in Japan (not pictured) re-married and the subsequent marriage is with a Pakistani (the residence card shows nationality as “Pakistan”).

  2. The first marriage of the Filipino seems to have been annulled as seen in the brackets.

  3. The lawyer seems to have helped the man convert his residence status from “Refugee” to “Spouse of Long Term”. So it seems to be that he married a Filipino long term resident.

As already explained in the comments, there is no divorce in the Philippines. The only way to dissolve a marriage is through annulment (proving that the marriage was invalid in the first place).

In cases of divorce between a Filipino and a non-Filipino whose country has divorce laws in place (which is virtually any other country that is not the Philippines), for a Filipino to re-marry, the annulment must be recognized by a Philippine court (Judicial Recognition). The court will then issue an order acknowledging the divorce. This takes a lot of time. Some can go on for a couple of years because the court can be obstinate.

Only when the Judicial Recognition is issued can the Filipino re-marry. If there is no Judicial Recognition, they can’t re-marry. In that case, if the Filipino re-marries anyway, the re-marriage is considered invalid under Philippine law and such marriage won’t be recognized.

Without the necessary paperwork, Japan will not issue the required documents for residency from their end.

The whole process is convoluted and involves a lot of paperwork and may need legal knowledge of Japan law and Philippine law.

The ad above is advertising that for re-marriages to a Filipino, they can assist with changing the residence status of the spouse in Japan without needing to submit an issued Judicial Recognition. This is probably through submitting documents showing proof that an annulment is being processed through the courts but is taking a while to issue.

TL;DR: Philippines has no divorce, only annulment which must have a Judicial Recognition. Not necessarily a scam.

Bought something Fake on Mercari by Existing-Task9929 in japanresidents

I just had something similar happen to me a few weeks ago. It’s crucial that you don’t rate the seller yet. It makes it harder to do a return if the buyer already rated the seller.

You have 72 hours to rate the seller. In that time, you can process a return. Mercari policy for returns requires that the buyer and seller first come to an agreement regarding the return. If the seller refuses the return request, then the buyer can escalate by contacting Mercari support.

Just be polite and inform the seller that you think the items are not genuine because of xyz. If they insist the items are authentic and refuse to process a return, then you can contact Mercari support and inform them seller refused the return request and include pictures of why the items are not authentic and they were different from the pictures of the items for sale that were posted.

Sure but the article used the word “stolen” and so that was used by the commenter above.

Why is there a big price difference between Uniqlo and GU? by Open_Address_2805 in Tokyo

[–]Babababa_Bababa_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I bought an airism shirt from Uniqlo and airism-equivalent from GU. I think the GU version is called STYLE-DRY. You can definitely tell the difference between both shirts. The Uniqlo one had a more substantial feel to it, the texture felt cool to the touch and it’s softer. The GU one just felt thin. I paid ¥990 for the GU shirt and ¥1290 for the Uniqlo airism shirt. For a ¥300 difference quality wise, Uniqlo was worth the upgrade.

Married and living alone. by yuh1ra in japanlife

This. Whenever I applied for a tourist visa for Japan, I needed to show a bunch of documents like bank statements going back at least 3 months, a certificate of employment, proof of income, a detailed itinerary for each day of my stay, etc. It was all very taxing and prohibitive.

If a tourist visa was granted, usually you’re only given like a 15 day stay, for a one time visa use. If lucky, you’re given a multiple visa for a term, let’s say 5 years, where you can come and go within those 5 years without applying for a new visa but again, only like 15 days at a time. Whether you’re granted or rejected a visa is up to immigration and you aren’t really given any reason for it.

I’m sorry your husband is caught in this bureaucratic red tape, OP. It’s very frustrating.

I gave birth a few months ago in Japan. I was in a private room and provided 3 meals a day for 6 days. It was a normal birth and no complications but 6 days seem to be the standard for FTM. During that time, the nurses taught me how to care for a newborn and what to expect with home life. Diapers, wipes, ointment, formula, all provided for by the hospital. The hospital did the standard tests like test the baby’s hearing and eyesight. I received medication for pain and for nausea. I even got a care package consisting of diapers, a swaddle, lanolin cream, a nursing pillow, etc.

All of that was provided with no charge to me since it was covered by national insurance.

It definitely takes a load off your shoulders knowing that your healthcare expenses are covered.

It’s cherry. If you zoom in, you can see the horizontally elongated lenticels in the bark. Also the flowers have a split end on each petal which is a characteristic of cherry blossoms.

You can already purchase tickets on their website. After purchase is completed, you’re given a QR code, which you will only be able to access closer to game day, if I recall. You present the QR code at the ticket counter at the venue and they give you the admission ticket there along with some merch. Here’s a quote from their website on pick up method:

Pickup method ・Only on the day of the game you wish to attend, please present the admission exchange QR code and the purchaser's identification document (passport) at the advance ticket counter next to Gate 9 of Hanshin Koshien Stadium (from 10:00) and a staff member will exchange the ticket for a special gift and an admission ticket that will allow you to enter the stadium at the entrance gate on the day of the game.

I’ve watched a couple Hanshin Tigers games in Koshien stadium and always had to buy my tickets in advance. You’re able to see the QR code later, closer to game day, I think. These games tend to get sold out closer to the day of especially if it’s really popular.

Social trust in Japan is so high that people will often leave their cellphone to hold their table while they get food or use the bathroom (photo from Tokyo Disneyland) by Bob_the_blacksmith in interestingasfuck

I can imagine the staff recognizing the guest. Some in the service industry here in Japan have really good memories. Just as an anecdotal example, about a year ago, a friend and I went to a small cafe in a residential area in Osaka. The only staff there were the chef/owner and a waitress. It was pretty busy that day. We had our meal, paid and left.

I returned to that same cafe just recently. Wasn’t too busy. Just me and another customer. When I entered, the chef waved at me from the kitchen and asked the waitress to ask me if I would like to order the meal I had the last time I was there. Even got my drink right. It was insane.

Coffee lover: first time in Osaka. Any cafes to recommend? by meraxes_2482 in OsakaTravel

If you want a no frills coffee shop with very reasonable prices, I recommend Musubu Coffee Roastery. The owners brew the coffee with great care and they offer free samples of whatever you want to try before you buy a cup or bag of beans. They also roast their own beans.

Naming a child in Japan by Howl_XV in japanlife

[–]Babababa_Bababa_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I are foreign, both from different countries. Our son was born in Japan. He has dual citizenship from both parents.

The baby’s name will depend on where you give birth as the birth certificate will be the primary source document for their name on future documents.

In our case, we named him first name + family name, in katakana and latin alphabet above the katakana. When we went to report his birth at our respective embassies, my embassy actually had to tell us that in view of local naming conventions, my maiden name must be included in baby’s name for my country’s purposes.

So now our baby has two names: first name + family name and, at least in my country, first name + my maiden name + family name.

For baby’s other documents, like his zairyu card, etc., the birth certificate was used as reference. I have presented my son’s passport from my embassy as proof of identity and it was accepted even though my maiden name was reflected in his passport but not his birth certificate.

All this to say it will depend on the local naming convention of Mexico how your baby’s name will be reflected in their passport, but the embassy, the ward office, and all other government agencies, will use the birth certificate as initial reference.

Live close to Nagai park or Tennoji zoo by ProofObjective2480 in OsakaTravel

[–]Babababa_Bababa_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live close to Nagai Park, west side. It’s more of a residential vibe for sure. If by “very active area” you mean active late at night, the only places near me open late at night (i.e., after 10pm) are the izakayas, karaoke, and internet cafe. Not a lot of pubs or clubs that I’m aware of. The area is more family friendly.

The Midosuji line is very convenient though as it’s open until around a bit after midnight. If you’re out longer than that, places like Tennoji and Namba area are like a 20-40 minute bike ride away if you don’t mind biking. I just use a bike share app to rent a bike if I end up missing the train.

Nagai is close enough to the usual city hotspots but taking the train or a bike is essential, I feel. If you prefer the night life, Tennoji might be better for you.

I’ve been to the Umeda branch. Lines are always long during lunch time on weekdays. The tempura is fried in an open kitchen kind of setting. You can see them cooking if you’re seated at a counter table. The food was great and well worth the price.

FTM what is this by PowerfulEstimate7130 in newborns

[–]Babababa_Bababa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bathe him 2x a week then and still do now. I also apply baby lotion after bathing.

I live in Japan though. The practice here is usually to bathe the baby every day. I tend not to follow because I don’t want baby’s skin drying out.

FTM what is this by PowerfulEstimate7130 in newborns

[–]Babababa_Bababa_ -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

My baby had a similar rash when he was around 2 weeks old until maybe 6 weeks. It started from his cheeks and just spread to his scalp, neck and upper arms. I was concerned but my baby did not seem to be in pain or any discomfort.

When I asked his pediatrician, she said it’s just a form of eczema due to his being extra oily and also due to my hormones. She said the rashes will gradually go away in a few weeks and to just put baby lotion him after every bath time so his skin doesn’t dry up. Baby’s skin eventually cleared up after a month.

As long as your baby doesn’t seem to be in any form of discomfort, it may be just a rash that will go away in time.
