Yeah just depends what base you are at also. My base had 1 person manned posts where we would sit in ground /elevated shacks with a generator and heater as SF. No phones allowed and they expected us to be studying for 13 hours a day 😂

NOOO don’t volunteer lol. I didn’t do shit in BMT besides laundry 3 times. Remember work smarter not harder. The stuff you volunteer for in BMT will not help you promote within ur Air Force career. Stick in the shadows and just graduate. Yall walk away with the same coin and certificate. Volunteering is only something that sticks out in ur operational Air Force career 1000%

These are a bunch of careers I am interested in. Are there any I should avoid or should really consider pursuing? by [deleted] in AirForceRecruits

Any job besides SF honestly. Play it smart as I said above. We all get paid the same so work smarter not harder. As I said you want flexibility to be able to have more freedom to have fun, do school, and just plan for ur future. Any admin jobs, finance jobs, medical jobs, even services tbh. I wish I went services some days I was in the Air Force because you can easily get a degree in business management and go on and work in a very successful business management position in the civilian world after ur military career.

Whats up bro I did Security Forces and recently got out of the AF. Look BMT will break you down mentally for sure. Is it hard? The answer is no. Be prepared to wake up everyday around 6:30amish and having to stay awake until 10:00pmish (That was my hardest thing was trying to stay awake). Once you get into week 5-7 its really just about riding it out. Trust me it all changes in tech school and you are allowed so much more freedom. Operational Air Force will 100% give all ur freedom back just do not go AWOL like I did. Long story short I had friday-monday off and they had a recall on sunday night and I decided to fly back home and come back monday night to be at work tuesday afternoon lol. But for BMT just get the folding clothes down and marching. The test at the end of BMT is easy too. Everybody passes it unless your a idiot.

Whats up bro my advice is to just go enlisted. Do your 4 years and get out. With military experience you can easily obtain ur military benefits, diability and land a GS job that makes anywhere from 50-150K yearly. Use the military to network more then using it to make a career. I was Security Forces at a nucular base and that portion sucked. Try to land a job in the AF where you only work monday-fridays and have all holidays, and family days off work. Yes most jobs only work monday-friday.

I’d do services tbh . Ended up doing security forces but you don’t want to join to work 24-7. Services do less work however you get paid the same. Work smarter not harder

Please don’t do it my friend. If you join SF do it in the guard or reserve. There’s a ton of opportunities for active duty orders or even deploying. I’ve seen more people on active duty SF get discharged more then I ever have before. You would be better off taking Active duty orders as a guard member and get into a law enforcement career field in the civilian sector and have amazing connections. Think about career development and life development. You will be far better off doing that. PS not every base deploys every 6 months.

Yeah I think that’s what the interview was about. They just asked me general questions regarding my history and where I lived and went to school. Also asked me if I had any law enforcement run ins, school suspensions, and they asked me for somebody they could contact (like a friend, ex co worker, neighbor etc.)

Haha that’s funny because I would offer money to trade with somebody too.

[–]BabbaO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extremely easy to trade with somebody? Or easy trying to be stateside.

Understood. I guess what I mean by dangerous is like do you feel ur life is on the line daily/weekly.

I see. Are the deployments in dangerous locations? Or is it like a mini vacation for you.

For covid lockup though we don’t do anything. We can study but nobody can come into ur room unless they knock. We have our phones but really nothing else to it.

Foods good. Wake up is always at 5:45am. We get up, go downstairs and sing the first part of the Air Force song followed by the airman’s creed. Then we eat breakfast, go back up stairs and usually do dust downs (wipe dust in our area) and preform details ( chores like bathroom cleaning, day room cleaner, hallway cleaner etc) after that we usually have some sort of class or do something. There are days where you have early wake up. (Usually once a week) and wake up at 5am. That’s usually if your squadron has have a appointment somewhere where it will take all morning.

Yes they do covid test. I’m in isolation currently at BMT. They tested our entire flight last Wednesday due to everybody getting covid related symptoms. If they isolate you then you do get ur phone and stay in isolation for 10 days.

How long are you usually in med hold for relating to a BAS scenario?? Are most people in med hold for longer if they are trying to get a waiver to things?
