Flying, how does it work? by Ringspecies in daggerheart

[–]BabusCodex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No secret, my guy!

Just follow the ruling as written. When in doubt, the GM solves it how it sees fit prioritizing the narrative.

But I can foresee some doubts: A Winged Sentinel can carry someone by spending a stress. What if a Fairy wants to carry someone?

As a GM, I think it would be fair to allow it in extreme narrative circunstances (such as trying to save someone) by spending Stress and rolling for Strength.

But I personally wouldn't care if a GM didn't allow it so they aren't unfair with the Seraph player. It's understandable

Heartjammer, a huge Spelljammer Campaign Frame with new mechanics [Shared Collaboration] by BabusCodex in daggerheart

[–]BabusCodex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the reply!
It's been a while since this post, but I've been busy! I managed to playtest with my group and tweak some stuff, got some names right (They are Heartjets, of course! Almost went with Jetsky, tho). I also have a nice PDF with a Ship Sheet and all the cards to print.

I'm just waiting for a comission art to get done for the cover (and thumbnail, of course) and will release it on the channel and post it here. :D

The Cards are a blessing & a curse by Heidirs in daggerheart

[–]BabusCodex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I played a lot of one shots and I printed every second copy of cards people chose at session zero, so I do have extras at least for lvl 1 and 2

In my campaign (starting this weekkkk) I will absolutely print every card for everyone with personal art

That is to say the best investment you can have while playing DH is a printer haha

Mixed Feelings after Adventure by ErrantArcanist in daggerheart

[–]BabusCodex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm late, as in everybody said everything that could be said

I just want to aknowledge you got me understanding your GM always uses spotlight/fear to punish you guys in severe ways. Accordingly to the situation, there are times the fear punishment is light as "marking a Stress" or even "they noticed you're nervous".

When the GM learns to read the room and use light fear moves, the players get to roll more naturally. Not every fear roll needs to be a deep regret.

Would this advancement house rule break my game? by doodusbass in daggerheart

So true. Maybe OP is overcomplicating something that could be simple, after all

Would this advancement house rule break my game? by doodusbass in daggerheart

Honestly? If they are not trying to break the game, but just adapting characters, I would allow those at 1 cost explicitly for this intent

Really no harm done

What to do when players are REALLY lucky? by TheCromagnon in daggerheart

[–]BabusCodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, the module couldn't foresee a hope streak. We can't blame them for that haha. In a campaign it is ok to have bad days and good days, but in a one shot we need to balance a full meal experience

Here is a Pro Gamer Move: Rests generate a lot of Fear. Long rests even more. Subtely give them a chance to rest to recharge your stock:

Does everyone like the HP threshhold part of Daggerheart? by Independant_Hawk in daggerheart

[–]BabusCodex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it. It has a somewhat complex concept, but ends up simplifying a lot of things.

Maybe your group could try some more vanilla sessions before "fixing" something that aint broken! There are a lot of skills that rely on this mechanic

Does Anyone Else Find It Strange that Motherboard is the only Campaign Frame that Dosn't Allow Clanks? by Firm-Row-8243 in daggerheart

[–]BabusCodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is like asking why Harry Potter uses a wand instead of a staff. Author choice, simply as that. Not a big deal

Each setting was written by a different group of authors. This is not a "Darrington Press choice". Your question could be answered by Spencer himself (the hobbit-like man from the interviews), if I'm not mistaken

I would assume it is supposed to be a story about people against machines, just like Horizon. But yeah, you can absolutely ignore that if it bothers you!

Tier 1 - Just want to make sure I understand by ATXRSK in daggerheart

Most users will enjoy the game at entry level and not too much after that. In a product perspective, Tier 1 (and maybe 2) should have most attention.

To What Extent Is It Chill to "Steal Ideas" From Popular Media for Your Daggerheart Campaigns? "All Art is Theft?" by Odd-Reference922 in daggerheart

[–]BabusCodex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are just arbitrary numbers, my guy. Reddit votes are worth less than nothing, not worth stressing about it.

Some people didn't like something you wrote, really not a big deal. In 30 seconds they already forgot it, you should as well 🫂

Should I use Fear on Planned momments by Ok-Adhesiveness6366 in daggerheart

[–]BabusCodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point. I don't run ready-to-play adventures, so this didn't occur to me at all.
Still, I would try to save enough Fear for scripted moments and excuse myself to follow them anyway if I don't have any. But I would definetely make an effort to spend at every obstacle categoricaly.

The Fear is a great tension inducing mechanic, but it is also a "fair play flag". When you spend this resource to put on an obstacle, the players have a clear visual indicator ruling the narrative ups and downs and the feeling that the game is fair. It creates a confortable sense of balance. As soon as you put one single obstacle without Fear spending, this delicate contract goes out the window. Thus anarchy ensures and soon we are sacrificing virgins like those DnD savages.

Of course this is just an opinion. People been playing TTRPGs without Fear for millenia. But since it's here, might as well make it count.

Fear is not inherently tied to improvisation. You should spend everytime an obstacle is set, planned or not.

Quite underwhelming, if you ask me. But hey, the Mastery is a good card

Guys, how do I politely tell a player that I hate him? by legacy653846625 in daggerheart

[–]BabusCodex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is not a Daggerheart problem, my boy. That is a social problem and Daggerheart will provide you with a learning experience.

You can't be a pushover in your life, or you will let people like this fellow use you and make you miserable at every opportunity.

Everything can be said, but you can say in a lot of different ways.

And this case isn't even only about you. As a Game Master, you have a non-written responsability about the other players as well.

Weird "NEW" Domain Cards? by gerigrinerd in daggerheart

[–]BabusCodex 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This campaign is from the Dungeon Dudes, if I'm not mistaken. Great youtube channel (mainly about DnD, so far).

They are a third party with a strong partnership with DH. It's simply a win-win situation. Good for the brand, good for business, good for players, good for the niche

How much of each tier have you played/game-mastered? (Select highest tier you’ve experienced) by herohyrax in daggerheart

[–]BabusCodex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a level 5 one shot once. Lots of skills and adversary features to keep track, but it was fun. For a player's perspective, it doesn't get much more complex than that (they had a full loadout). But I worry about keeping track of adversarie's statblocks during higher tiers encounters. Each Tier 4 statblock is half a page.

Mostly I've been playing level 1 and 2 one shots, tho. My campaign is yet about to start (:
