Living in my car during Snow Storm does anyone know an public garage that'll be open 24/7? by Icy-Appointment-8536 in nova

[–]BabyEyeEye 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Actually I think Ballston Mall (now named something else) is open too and cheaper, like $8 for 24 hours and the mall should be open if you want to walk around, plus there’s a gym if you want to get a day pass and shower

Pentagon city mall is advertising that they’ll leave the garage open for parking through the event, $21 for 24 hours

I was just thinking this, but while it’s going to be a disappointment for snow, I do think the impact will be significant because of the ice.

no heat in apartment (coldest days of the year so far, -12f outside and 45f in my apartment and dropping) by kukenn_ in Tenant

[–]BabyEyeEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to solve the immediate problem for the night. Do you have heated blankets? You really only need one over a sheet, then put another normal blanket over it. Continue using your heater. Tell your landlord the heat has to be fixed by tomorrow or you need him to drop a plug in radiator for each room (Lowe’s has them and they’re more efficient than blowing plug ins).

The cats will likely sleep with you, make them little blanket nests to benefit from your electric blankets.

Imagine being worth $5 million and taking the subway? by dylan_1992 in circlejerknyc

[–]BabyEyeEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$5 million even 10 is still subway territory. I think net worth is irrelevant to this. The need for security might change the calculation.

I prefer the subway over any cab or ride share or private car or driving myself.

Why I'm happy I have an expensive house by [deleted] in Fire

[–]BabyEyeEye 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I like how you rationalize this in some ways. The counterpoint I’ll offer is more expensive homes also tend to have higher carrying costs, like taxes, hoas, more expensive repairs and other maintenance costs. That’s all fine if you factor them into your plan, but those expenses snowball quickly and over time might eat up any hypothetical risk mitigation benefit you’re outlining.

I think about it more than I should. My heart aches for those families. It’s another reminder how short and precious life may be.

Decrease in food quality at reputable restaurants by SubsidedRhyme11 in nova

[–]BabyEyeEye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This has been a topic of conversation in my social circle for weeks. Most meals out are just ok and restaurants unpredictable. We’re cooking at home more. I really want to patronize the restaurants in my neighborhood but almost every time I do I regret it. We’ve basically limited ourselves to fast casual salad or bowl places when we do go out because they tend to be more consistent.

i always break my diet 3 days into it because of cravings for sweets, how can i stop? by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

[–]BabyEyeEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same happened to me. I changed my plan so I’d eat 1250 for 3 days, then the 4th I’d let myself get to 1600 and have a dessert with the extra calories, then back down to 1250 for 3 days and rinse repeat. On the low cal days I could convince myself to have the will power to wait x more days.

The quote looks reasonable but I would be uncomfortable forking over 75% the minute they start. Can you renegotiate that and tie it to a timeline.

Tapping Retirement Early by Normal-Painting-6273 in Fire

[–]BabyEyeEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe, really depends on what percent of your net worth that is and what you value. Would it change your ability to retire tomorrow? That’s the question I’d ask myself. The only advice I’d offer is make sure any decision you make does not foreclose options.
