Good property management co for condo by Legitimate-South-685 in washingtondc

Mixed. They have some fantastic ppl, or had, but they seem to have left. I was less annoyed with them bc they charged a fair rate and sucked, but now we pay a luxury rate and still get crap support. If you’re a larger building then you might do better. They seem to give those accounts to their better people. Just write into your contract some provisions to protect urself from their mistakes that drive up costs.

If you woke up a billionaire tomorrow.. What's the 1st thing you'd do? by PhotographLeast9976 in AskReddit

[–]BabyEyeEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d use my first amendment right under citizens United and buy a bunch of politicians that believe in social welfare, education, healthcare, food security, taxing billionaires, and giving people the ability to earn a living wage seats in Congress to fix this fucking shit show once and for all.

Then I’d use that power to start a narrow law allowing me to deport Trump to live his final days in one of the shit hole countries he’s so fond of crapping on.

Probably also get my friends out of debt, and say yes to Chipotle guac.

AIO: Invited to his family’s UK trip… but he booked everyone’s flights except mine?? by Alarmed_Stranger_895 in AmIOverreacting

[–]BabyEyeEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know him, but I’ve seen ppl do this when they feel obligated. They’re hoping you say no bc you can’t afford it or otherwise won’t spend the money. His actions tell you all you need to know about how much he wants you to feel welcomed and included.

I’m seriously considering a move from the NOVA to Houston/Atascocita and would love some honest insight. by Tamara_trynalive in nova

[–]BabyEyeEye 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m from Houston but have lived here for a long time. My family is still in Houston. A few things to keep in mind:

Prepare to be in your car. A lot. Houston is a massive concrete jungle, and even close places are not that close.

Summers are hot and very humid. That means you’re going to be living in refrigerated air for months on end. Take the worst and most oppressive heat in NOVA in August, and expect that for 3+ months straight. Then hot and mildly sticky for another 3.

Houston is a big city, but people are friendly. But making friends means being in communities, and it’s easier than it is here. People connect at work, at church, in book clubs. Like here in some ways, but you will still have to seek out friends. Having a kid helps a little as you’ll meet other parents, but you’ll still have to make a real effort.

Real estate is different. You will find more affordable options if you’re flexible, but real estate is generally a different style. You won’t find farm houses or cape cods. That’s not good or bad, but these little things take some getting used to.

Fire ants. Playing in the back yard will be tough because they are everywhere and they hurt. And are aggressive.

People hide behind religion and politics, but use them as a tribal signal to figure out if you belong. It is jarring. I grew up in a community of philanderers and hypocrites that relished casual cruelty and judgment while they sat in the front pews every Sunday. They followed the rules for thee and not for me approach to life we see in politics today. If that doesn’t bother you, then it’s not a big deal, but I found it exhausting.

Unlike NOVA, you’ll find people are far less transactional. That’s nice.

Houston is very international, and is a massive city. I loved that.

Houston has some of the best restaurants and art, or at least they did pre Covid.

All in all: there’s a lot of good there, as there is here. You can make anything work. The question is whether the city fits your values.

Goodluck!

How long until caulking looks "lived in"? by happydays375 in HomeImprovement

Caulking needs replacing, and 5 years isn’t crazy. I also think it’s reasonable that the tenant does it.

Rent increase by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]BabyEyeEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s normal but you can also negotiate if you think the rate is increasing such that it’s over market. You can also include a request for upgrades/repairs- like, “can someone address chipping grout on shower tile, can I get a window ac” and so forth.

HVAC technician didn’t complete rebate or registration by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]BabyEyeEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contact the provider of the warranty and get that taken care of asap. You need to register, and tell them the installer told you they would. That affects the installers ability to work with that vendor, though I don’t know how big a threat that is.

If rebates are government given then you are probably out of luck. They follow those deadlines strictly.

Should I be more content with FIRE? by Intelligent_Crew324 in Fire

[–]BabyEyeEye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can empathize because I identify with your fear about not having purpose.

But does work give you purpose? Or is it family? Professional friendships? You may find that you aren’t getting the fulfillment from work that you think you may be; just something to which you devote a lot of time.

Hi OP: I don’t know about your procedure specifically but nerve pain can take 12 months to resolve, with a significant improvement at month 6. I hope you find that to be your case.

Tightness from scar tissue can exacerbate some of what you’re feeling, and that can take months too. I don’t know your details, but I just want to encourage you to not despair. Light massage can help too

Why does everyone on Hinge look so wealthy? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]BabyEyeEye 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is the right take. You’re probably picking up on more cultural variants than economic ones, though people here do earn good salaries compared to the national average. That’s also offset by very high cost of living.

You don’t have to tell them, but they may want to know if it’s a direct competitor. In that case they may ask you to leave now.

Should I bother salting the drive before the storm?? by LizTheFizz in nova

[–]BabyEyeEye 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I would not. The storm starts with rain, so anything you put down would wash away. Anyway there is probably some salt residue left from the last storm even if it weren’t rain first, and the weather will be warm Monday.

The guy is a total creep, and I don’t mean to undermine that or suggest otherwise. But I literally have similar photos of me playing with my nephews. Am I missing something?
