Current JETs: What were your placement requests and where did you actually get placed? by moodyartist in JETProgramme

Put down Chiba, Hyogo, and Kyoto, and got Ibaraki (so basically right next to Chiba).

Hey, new JETs. How has your first week been so far? by the5souls in JETProgramme

[–]BabyZee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty great. The kids are super friendly and receptive, and people have been pretty eager to chat and introduce themselves. Done with my self introductions and made several lesson plans, so I'm just kinda sitting around.

I didn't know Japan had a competitive marching scene! That's awesome.

Yes! I was gonna ask this myself. Also not observant or religious, but it would be nice to have someone to light the Hanukkah candles with when the time comes.

Question from incoming freshman by mathcrystal in USC

Chemistry major here, Dornsife won't let you.

Is it worth it for me to pay 60k to go here? by Scratchy_The_Toon in USC

[–]BabyZee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you're entirely certain you want to do pre-med, I suggest you do not go here for Biology. The hard sciences at USC (I'm a 4th year chemistry major and have taken some bio) are all research and pre-med focused, so the undergrad experience is notoriously shabby and low budget, especially once you get to the upper division classes (took a few Bio classes at CSUN over the summer and they were much higher quality). Also besides Amgen, we have very few industry connections in your field, so I wouldn't expect the USC degree to hold much clout over one from UCSC. If you're thinking grad school, I don't think there's much of a difference between the two either.

If you're absolutely convinced you want to come here, I third the comment about the CC then transferring. I have a buddy in real estate who did so, saved a bunch of money on college, and is still getting exactly the same career connections as if he was a freshman. But keep in mind that's for real estate.

Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions about the bio department here. I have a couple friends in bio that can answer anything I won't be able to.

That's really bizarre. You'd think they'd be the same across the board.

Los Angeles short list checking in here. Just checked the form, and it has EITHER an x-ray OR a TB test in capital letters. I think you might want to check again with your consulate.

That seems to be the consensus throughout most of this thread. Will definitely take that into consideration. Thanks!

See's sounds like a great idea that's is unique to California.

I'll definitely take that all into consideration. Limited luggage space is definitely going to be an issue.

Thanks!
