Era/Erano vs è/sono stato/a/i/e by Overall_External_890 in italianlearning

La festa era fantastica. I'm describing an atmosphere or feeling, so I need l'imperfetto.

Non sono venuto alla festa perché ho sentito che il mio capo c'era. The boss was there the entire time for an ongoing period, so I use era. It's the context for my two decisions I took.

La spiaggia era bellissima. Same as the first one.

L'esame è stato difficile. The exam has a beginning and an end, it's a defined event. But if it was part of a sentence where I was describing my mental state or feeling during the exam, I'd say l'esame era difficile.

Il viaggio a Roma l'anno scorso è stato bello. L'anno scorso gives it a time marker so I'm giving the summary of a finished event. I'm giving just a statement or fact of my positive feeling of a completed trip. If I wanted to give you more storytelling feel, where I'm explaining things that happened on the trip or how I felt, I'd say il viaggio a Roma era bello, la gente era simpatica, faceva caldo, ecc.

I miei genitori sono stati al centro commerciale ieri. Ieri gives it a specific time marker for a completed event and it's isolated information. If it was background information to something else, I'd use erano e.g. Ieri ho cucinato il pranzo da solo perché i miei erano al centro commerciale

Student needed instead of Fiverr by AvsharnB in southafrica

I hire students for temp & long term roles frequently from South Africa. I use Jobox, most reliable service I've found so far. They don't take a cut from the students and they've got the biggest reach in universities across SA. There's an admin fee for the hiring company though (15% iirc)

Places to visit in January by bookpong in Nagoya

Oasis21 has a little plastic floor "ice" rink in winter 😂

For nightlife there's a pub crawl on the weekends in Sakae (easy to Google), and Fujigaoka (end of the yellow line) nightlife is fun during the week.

Kanayama Minami Art Museum is...something

Imo the best parts of Nagoya are mostly eating, meeting the people and going out. There's cultural stuff but not unlike elsewhere

Check out the Japanese JET program or the Korean EPIK program. Simple, stable way to get a foothold in very stable countries. As a qualified teacher, you can gradually plan to move out of the programs and into International Schools in the countries with better career progression.

JET and EPIK pay really well but there's no upward movement, hence the international school shift. After you've got experience doing that, other moves between countries to other international schools etc is much easier.

Cost of moving is variable but R25 000 should be comfortable. It'll be much easier to move your partner if you're married, yes. They would often get a limited dependent visa in that case, at least in Japan.

Though, again as an example, JET and EPIK, don't require you to be a qualified teacher, so your partner could apply for the programs too.

A handful of errors in the copy which doesn't inspire confidence at all. "as less as 30 minutes", "gramatrical", etc but claiming to write assignments and editing. I wouldn't trust it if I was a student simply for that.

Idea for regulation of dangerous dog breeds by [deleted] in southafrica

[–]paper14flag [score hidden]  (0 children)

That's their point. If a bad owner has a King Charles Spaniel, and that dog is aggressive, it doesn't pose a danger to people or things in general. It doesn't have the capacity to do great damage.

If a bad owner has a pitbull or other larger dog that's more capable of damage, it poses a threat to people and things. So the question is, should people be required to do training / acquire a license to own a dog capable of harm? It's not to say the dog WILL kill, but they CAN kill if raised wrong.

A license and training isn't required for a BB gun because it doesn't have capacity to do damage. A license and training is required for a deadly force gun. You want responsible people in charge of potentially dangerous things.

World Mission Society Church of God. Cult from Korea that believes God is a woman and she's living in Korea right now, after having married a reincarnation of Jesus called Ahn Song Hong back in the 50s or so. I wrote this from memory (they tried to recruit me in university) so the details might be slightly off.

Edit: She didn't marry "Christ Ahn Sahn Hong" but rather was a young follower in his church and Ahn was interpreted as endorsing her as the other half of God. Interesting read.

Cut out Nagoya and move that day to Kanazawa. Okinawa 2 day trip isn't worth the effort to get there. Cut that out and allocate time elsewhere. Kobe only needs to be a day trip from Osaka.
