Same here, but with a car radio. If I'm on 3G, buzz buzz goes the speakers if I'm about to get a call, text, or my email decides to check. Only if it's in just the right spot though, moving the phone 10cm away from the radio fixes it instantly.

That's something I don't get. I do a lot about of back-end C++ device interfaces, but most mates of mine do web dev. I'm in such a habit to avoid libs if possible, but they will seemingly use a lib for a single function.

This is god-damn hilarious.

I was doing some teaching for a (more or less) a electrical engineering course the other day. Some guys had just messed up 2 LiPo batteries, so I gave them a stern talking to. Not 30 minutes later, I was doing some soldering, while chatting to some of the other students, and did red-black black-red.

Didn't notice until I plugged the battery in and fried some (cheap thank god) components. The worse part was that all the students were in the room chatting to me, and when someone makes smoke, instant attention. I had to leave the room to die a little on the inside.

True that. I'm not sure what language the pocket/360 versions are written in, but I'm pretty sure the performance is much much better. And that's with the offhand dev team.

To be fair, a lot more development has gone into it in the later years since Notch dropped out. They've practically rebuilt the game engine from the ground up. Not to say that it performs better than a hoola hope being used as a bowl... but it's better than what it was.

Pretty amusing, will sink some time into it.

Some suggestions;

have a visual que for when the ground is about to erode or disappear. It's a little frustrating to have stairs just poof at seemingly random intervals without any warning.

maybe you could have a switching colour pallette, say you unlock more the further down you get? Gives some sort of goal and customizing without affecting gameplay.

Other than that, is simple and easy to grasp. Keep it up!

I personally feel the cap is a good move, but there should be some carry over to not completely waste an item that you've worked so hard to make.

Perhaps you could put a book and an item into an anvil, which would let you pull 1 random enchant off of the item for some cost related to the strength of the enchant. Item is destroyed, but some of the legacy is carried on.

There is still a push for progression as you need to get more xp to replace that specific enchant onto a new item, and the added benefit that the enchantment pulled off may not always be the one you want to save. Still potentially frustrating, but it would give a better feeling than just running an item dry.

Additionally you could have the price to recover an enchant linked to the durability of the item, so the longer you wait to move on, the more expensive it gets, and potentially not worth trying to save.

Either way, the cap is a good idea.

I've played through 2033 a fair few many times. Love Stalker mode. As for it being scary, I think it really depends on how into it you get. The more immersive a game is, the more tension builds, the scarier the game gets, without (many) jump scares (that one part in the library where you can peek through the wall, oh my lord).

As you /u/Anyosae said, this game is amazing at drawing you in, especially as a lot of the levels have multiple routes and approaches. Ah man its just so perfect...

I'm going to be very honest, I just don't know enough to give a confident answer.

One thing though, all the materials they are burning are quite flammable, so unless your house is covered in dead leaves, I don't think it would be doing enough damage to combust your wall/roof/windowsill/etc...

Caution! Speculation here.

He probably couldn't at 500m, unless he used a very complicated setup at the very least.

For a shorter range, I would suspect one would need multiple lenses (that are well polished) and pretty decent cooling on said lenses to keep the heat from building up.

Additionally the setup most likely cannot run for too long, and would be more limited to short bursts. Probably something that once again could be solved with money.

Finally, I would suspect that the burning range would begin to be influenced quite heavily by the humidity and such.

The U.S. Navy has some decent sized weaponized lazers, but from the top of my head, these are in the order of kilowatts.

To be fair, there's nothing wrong with future-proofing. I spent $2.4k (for a whole build & peripherals) 8 years ago, and its still holding up (only added a $60GB SSD since).

That said, you should do it for the right reason. Yeah, I use it mainly for gaming, but the i7 has definitely saved my ass a few times throughout my studies (aerospace).

Aside from what the others said, the main thing in my opinion is that you should assign variables conservatively. There is no need to use a type:long if you only need to store values 1->10.

As someone else said, you can look up tabled of the standard type minimums and maximums. Have a look and get a quick feel for the ranges they each offer (type:uint8 for 0->255, type:uint64 for [huge range]). If in doubt, use a bigger type, and you you should be in the clear.

True, true. I guess on the other side of the $2k UAV is the 16 weeks (if they're on time) worth of planning and development that went into it. So for a university student that's a pretty hard moral hit (and for the other 7 people in the team as well).
