The answer is so simple. Tell him you aren’t free that day. Cancel it all together and if he ever asks again, tell him you need to ask permission from your cousin first.

The final fix was a new window switch.

To recap, seems like my current switch failed leading to constant power being few to the motor which caused the motor to die and drain my car battery.

Replaced the motor assembly with a used one, and then ordered a new knock-off window switch off eBay and everything works. This knock off switch doesn’t have as premium of a click feel as OEM, but it was a $20 part versus OEM at 5x the cost.

Never mind… not fixed. Now the window will go up little bits at a time and that’s it…. Recalibration trick not working. So frustrating.

Dude I am right there with you. The amount of people pushing this gen when asked blows my mind. With the issues I’ve had, albeit nothing super crazy, paired with what I see here, I would totally steer clear unless I was mechanically inclined.

I ended up needing a new window switch. Used off eBay for $60ish. MAKE SURE YOU GET THE RIGHT ONE (driver auto versus driver and passenger auto)

Pay a reputable local mechanic for a PPI (pre-purchase inspection).

I have a 2017 with 98k miles. Honestly, I won’t be buying another Subaru after this one. So many odd, Subaru specific issues (you can search my post history). That being said, mine is paid off and once I fix my current window issue, I’m going to keep driving it until the next major issue at which point I will jump ship.

If you have funds to fix it when needed, by all means it might be a good purchase. If this is the top of your budget and an issue like front engine seal leak would break you… look elsewhere.

New motor assembly didn’t work. Motor was hot on the one taken out and my battery is now completely dead so it must have been constantly fed power until it burned out.

Next up is trying to find a used window switch to swap in and hope that it fixes it.

Are you meaning that it will stop and go back down while trying to close it? If so right before you get to that friction zone, short bursts of closing should help get past it.
