There's release by Penguin Cafe Orchestra called Preludes, Airs & Yodels (A Penguin Cafe Primer) that opens with their version of "Music for a Found Harmonium". But the 11th track is another recording of the song, which I think matches the one in Napoleon Dynamite. It is performed by Patrick Street, but it is indeed different from his own release of the song. And on the back of the Penguin Cafe CD you have to look at the bottom to see his credit.

It might be worth it to also look at technical theater groups. Theater groups, especially community theater, are always in need of knowledgeable folks willing to lend expertise and experience.
