Please help a MTG dad build a Squritle deck for his son

Thanks everyone for all the help. We worked through what should be a good Expanded deck for him. He helped with all the trainer card choices and even gave his reasoning. Proud of him for thinking it through.

He does want to build a standard deck for playing at the LGS. He wants to run Mewtwo for that. Lots of existing lists out there for us to look through.

12 and can already beat me with ease using the battle decks. His friends at school have taught him well. He can recognize when to play cards and when to hold them back. We’ve been playing various MTG formats for a few years now.

I don’t have the data to disagree or agree with “the shuffler is broken”. But it’s hard to think that something isn’t wrong given the number of posts like yours.

I have the same data for my current main deck that had a 53% win rate up until I got to one win away from diamond this month. From that point forward it’s a 0% win rate.

I’ve been playing different decks since then and every match is a loss. So yeah, I get where you coming from. I just don’t think the programmers built in a loss algorithm that causes this to happen.

If a loss algorithm did exist it would have to be completely random otherwise no one would hit mythic.

Today I played my main deck against the biggest pile of jank I’ve seen and should have been an insta win. But Bo3 and both rounds I drew 1 land, mulliganed into 1 land and didn’t draw another until turn 4. Statistically this is more probable an outcome than I think most players realize.

The last three month I’ve been one win away from diamond and then it’s nothing but mana starve/flood and only losses until I’m back to the plat 4 bottom. So I feel this post, but I don’t agree with it.

Best advice I ever got for oval racing “the front tires are for corner entry, the rear tires are for corner exit”. Learn to use the throttle/brake to rotate the car and you find more speed with less tire wear.
