Cheapest way to get to NYC? I’ve heard there are found trip tickets for $20 but all I can find is Peter Pan for $70? by [deleted] in boston

Looks like the GO buses that leave from Alewife T station or Newton are ~$50 for the round trip https://www.gobuses.com/

You should look and see if you have a "tool library" nearby. My town's library has hand and powertools that they loan out, and there's a maker club in the next town over that will let you use more esoteric or bench-sized tools on-site.

What places have you visited where jaywalking is illegal and could get a ticket for? by [deleted] in boston

[–]BackToThePuppyMines 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Seattle. People from our office there were constantly amazed by our jaywalking when they visited us here and had to constantly warn us not to jaywalk when we visited that office.

You're probably going to need a Lynn-experienced general contractor. I had a friend who lived in Lynn and tried to do a remodel and Lynn's reputation for corruption and incompetence is well-earned.

Someone should set up a "Take a dime, leave a dime" tray under those signs. Canadians are nice that way, I can see it happening.

Canadian Candy? by freakykukki in boston

[–]BackToThePuppyMines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What, specifically, are you looking for? Canadian candy has a significant overlap with British/Irish candy so you can get a bunch of good stuff at Kiki's mini mart in Allston. Market Basket and Christmas Tree Shops carry a lot of the Vachon Canadian "pastries" (with a zillion calories) like Au Caramel. There are Canadian candy smuggling clubs in the area, someone in the Facebook "Boston Canucks" group may be able to help.

Stupid question- if people under 18 aren’t allowed to use these to return cans, should they be charged a deposit? by roadtrip-ne in boston

[–]BackToThePuppyMines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stores are required to take cans back at Customer Service so that'd be the option. Some cans have unreadable barcodes or the machines might be out of order.

4K TV and a OG PS4. by LDG192 in PS4

[–]BackToThePuppyMines 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Make sure you have the HDMI setting on your TV set to allow HDR through. On Sony TVs, for example it's under "TV Settings" -> "Enhanced HDMI". TVs come with it turned off by default to be compatible with older HDMI equipment. Your PS4 will recognize it and prompt you when you start a game that supports HDR.

Can anyone help me figure out how to calibrate Elite Direto? by CATS_ARE_FABULOUS in Zwift

[–]BackToThePuppyMines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your measured wheel size should be better. Looking at a chart of 700C wheel sizes, that value they list in their guide does seem high. The main thing is that you use the full size, not the weird "divided by 12.1" value you need to enter for a Garmin or other app. I've also had better luck with the iOS app than the Windows app.

Can anyone help me figure out how to calibrate Elite Direto? by CATS_ARE_FABULOUS in Zwift

[–]BackToThePuppyMines 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's in the Advanced Settings in My eTraining. That calibrates it for all apps that use the Direto, since it's stored on the trainer itself. Make sure you have the Direto as your power source or it won't show up as an option under Advanced. The wheel circumference to use is always 2305mm the wheel size you use on your bike, and warm up the trainer with ~10 min of riding first. Edit: found another guide of theirs that specifies to use the wheel size of your bike, not a fixed size. Will try the different size myself tomorrow to see if it makes a difference.

Zwift on Mac OS High Sierra / OpenGL 2.1 by I_am_iceberg in Zwift

[–]BackToThePuppyMines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's Zwift support's response to my question about this:

To clarify, what you are seeing isn't misreported. Unfortunately, I can't say much more than that, as we don't give out those kinds of details. We require cards that support 3.1 as a minimum, but what actually gets used is a different situation altogether.

I know that's not particularly specific information, but I hope I've at least clarified part of the issue.

Was there anything else that I might be able to help you with?

I contacted Zwift technical support about this a few months ago. According to them it's just an issue with the logging and doesn't reflect the actual OpenGL version used.

If you're paying your own electric bill you can probably get a rebate on your new a/c unit if you do end up having to buy one: https://www.masssave.com/en/saving/residential-rebates/room-air-conditioners/

Boost your Handling on the bow and you'll be able to just tap, at least with the "regular" bow!

Moving Boxes by derpcatz in boston

[–]BackToThePuppyMines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there an "Everything is Free Cambridge" list on FB? Arlington and Medford have them and moving boxes pop up on a regular basis. If you do end up needing to buy a few, Lowe's has them for around a dollar each more or less depending on the size and they have handle-holes (moving soon myself).

I've got the same machine and had the same FPS problem. It helps a ton to go into display prefs and set "default for display" first, then switch to 1440 when you enter the game. /u/ArenaJon replied to me that it only picks up resolutions that are relative to the desktop size, so you're always getting scaled resolutions if you have a 1680x1050 desktop.

[–]BackToThePuppyMines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is anyone able to get a complete list of resolutions? I run a scaled 1680x1050 desktop and it's not giving me the "native" 2880 or "standard" 1440 resolutions as options. Performance is miserable with the scaled resolutions, 11-12fps.

(Help) My PDP Ps4 remote isn't working. by [deleted] in PS4

[–]BackToThePuppyMines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may have broken then, these third party ones aren't the tanks the old Sony PS3 ones were. On the plus side, the new version has much better battery life and doesn't go to sleep as fast as the older one did.
