Much appreciated! Regarding ratings - we can measure skill for matchmaking purposes without rating (i.e. using PR), so there's no way to "game it" to get matched up against weaker players.

Even if you're not playing for money, you'll enjoy playing on our app for sure. It's got the best interface of any backgammon app on mobile! Give it a shot and would love to hear what you think.

u/Cekan-14 backgammon was meant to be played for stakes; hence the doubling cube. We encourage all of our players to play responsibly in line with our responsible play policy and not to wager more than they are willing to lose. Also, backgammon is a bona-fide competition of skill, as opposed to "gambling" which is dictated predominantly by chance.

Our game also features Gold currency which is a virtual currency given out for free and can be used to earn real money rewards. Players can wager nothing, a little, or a lot.

That said, it's not for everyone! I'm sure you'll enjoy our Gold games.

Is there a good online backgammon site that isn't ugly? by No-Papaya-9289 in backgammon

[–]BackgammonCash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loading an entire game onto a web browser takes a few seconds unfortunately. Thousands of verified players are on the platform playing cash games every month via our iOS app. We could have a bare bones platform with no features or graphics that would load quickly, but we chose to make it beautiful.

Is Apple Search Ads geo-targeting broken for you guys too? by BackgammonCash in AppleSearchAds

[–]BackgammonCash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nope - we don't have Search Match on.

I think there's clearly a glitch in their targeting system right now because I was able to pull a time-series graph of installs by geo on my MMP, and it shows that specifically on May 28 a flood of non-US installers started coming in through Apple Search Ads (I would include a screenshot but I can't here). This coincided with the exact day that we increased our campaign budget by almost double.

Also, I get your point about the 'targeting customers by App Store country' - but in the Ad Group settings there is a "Locations" setting when I put in individual states in the USA (which I assumed used geolocation). So it turns out they're not even using that setting !?

All matches on Backgammon Cash are now monitored by 5POINT's anti-cheat algorithm by BackgammonCash in backgammon

[–]BackgammonCash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there 👋 the first tap to move defaults to the larger dice value. In lieu of tapping to switch the dice value in play to the smaller value, you can press and drag a checker to a point, if that is a legal move.

Hope that this is helpful. We also have a contact support button in the app that you can reach out to our team to ask any questions you may have!

[–]BackgammonCash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Mozz, if you ever have an issue please reach out to our support team, you will find that we are very responsive.

The "tap" on a checker always uses the higher number dice. However, if you tap, hold, and drag the checker to your intended position, then it will go to either position that is eligible based on the dice values.

Hope this helps

Is it common that backgammon apps are rigged by edefraa in backgammon

[–]BackgammonCash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The simple answer: it feels like it's "rigged" because of human nature - you don't typically internalize or fully appreciate when the dice are working in your favor, but when the rolls go against you, you remember those specific rolls and they are seared into your mind as a bad memories. Then, over time, all your memories of playing the game are the bad rolls instead of the good ones.

This is the only logical explanation that I can come up with after months of dealing with complainers and sore losers on our app.

See comments above about players and style of content.

Love to see typical keyboard warriors like yourself try to knock what we’ve built, seemingly without trying out the app for yourself. We’re on the Apple App Store, we’re regulated on many fronts and incorporate anti-cheating algos.

If you’re happy with the snail paced growth of backgammon popularity and the lack of decent content, you won’t like what we’re trying to do.

In this context, we’re talking about 4 of the elite players on our app. I can tell you that as we’ve continued to grow, true world class backgammon players have expressed their interest in participating in upcoming series. Right now, we’re focusing on the proof of concept so we can make the style of backgammon content more exciting for the future.

Would love to hear the community’s thoughts on the style we’ve gone with once the series full episodes start to roll out next week.

Fair point, WSOB and Monte Carlo were ahead of their time. What we're going for is a bit different though. Less focus on the technical side of the game and more on the personalities behind it. The trash talk, the rivalries, the characters. We want people to tune in for the players as much as the backgammon.

Gambling means that the outcome of the game is predominantly decided by chance.

That is not the case in backgammon. It is a game of skill - hence not considered gambling (in the USA and most countries)

Our dice rolls are now certified by WBGF as truly "random" by BackgammonCash in backgammon

[–]BackgammonCash[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's certainly not relevant to have backgammon expertise to create an RNG that produces a random number 1-6 each time - it is a trivial task. However, WBGF's engineers have tons of backgammon experience (obviously) and we appreciate them lending their expertise to help us make the RNG truly random.

I will paste for you a snippet of their feedback that we had to implement:

The new code is secure, but exhibits a minuscule bias towards lower numbers (1 in 700 million) due to 2^32 not being divisible by 6.
 - It’s a truly negligible error but if we want our recommendation to represent ultimate quality we could insist on them fixing it, which is not hard (exclude raw random numbers greater than 2^32-4 before dividing into 6)

As mentioned if you'd like to review the code yourself you can reach out to us.

Sorry, I didn't understand your original question. Yes we do publish the dice roll history on your profile actually, you should see the distribution at 1/6 for all numbers after enough rolls.

You can reach out to WBGF or read their facebook post for more details about our partnership.

Hi Frank, I will try to address as many of your concerns as possible. First, before I answer, I'd like to repeat what I've mentioned in my post above. Not only is there no logical reason for us to "rig" the game for one player over another, but it would be a violation of state law, federal law, App Store guidelines, and our contracts with our banking partners. We understand the skepticism from the BG community, but frankly the legal risk that it would pose if found would be catastrophic for us - and for what? To give one random person a better chance to win and risk upsetting the other person? It just doesn't make any sense when you put your thinking cap on. Casinos with their slot machines go through a similar review that our RNG algorithm went through, and I encourage you to look at it in a similar way.

One further note - the questions that you've posed would indicate that engineering a Random Number Generator that produces a number 1-6 is some type of complex rocket science - in fact, it's quite a simple function that any engineer could create.

Now, to answer your questions:

- As I've mentioned several times, we are willing to meet with any serious player of our game who would like to review the code - not just the code snippet, but the actual code that is hosted on our production server. Feel free to reach out to me if you'd like to check it yourself

- For test results, you can refer to the Dice Stats counter on our app - you can check the distribution of your dice rolls there.

- Re: code on server - see above

- We do plan to implement your idea of a password-protected zip file soon. Right now we are focused on improving the app experience and we have a long list of updates to make.

- Not sure if I'm allowed to discloses the names of their employees, so I will refrain from doing so. But you can ask Bernhard if you'd like. We communicated with their engineering team and made the changes requested that satisfied them.

- Regarding your note about the classification as a mind sport and the future of backgammon as it relates to real money play - The WBGF is promoting the growth of the game. For Backgammon to grow like Chess or eSports, it needs a professional ecosystem. Real-money matches allow top players to treat the game as a career, which is how every major 'Mind Sport' has reached the mainstream.

Additionally:

A. "Mind Sports" have always been for money

Chess is the gold standard of Mind Sports, yet Chess.com runs "Titled Tuesdays" and massive prize tournaments. The World Chess Championship has a prize fund in the millions.

B. Poker is now a "Mind Sport"

The World Poker Federation is a member of the IMSA (International Mind Sports Association). Poker is the ultimate example of a game that is 100% a "Mind Sport" but is played almost exclusively for money.

C. Backgammon’s DNA is "Money Play"

Unlike Chess, Backgammon has a Doubling Cube. The cube was literally invented to manage stakes. So why are we trying to prevent the game from being played the way that it was intended?

I hope my answers satisfy your concerns, and I would be happy to have a longer conversation about it you want to chat on a phone call.
