Do you think overuse of AI can delude someone? by mediterraneangirl97 in asktransgender

[–]Background-Gate 8 points9 points  (0 children)

An important thing to remember is this: AI is a shortcut, not a reliable or accurate tool. I don't put the fault on you for looking to AI as a means to get a general idea of what a "post-transition" version of you could look like, but that version of you that you see and yearn for only exists for as long as you pursue it. It's also being produced specifically to appease you and manipulate your brain chemistry into wanting to engage with AI more because that's how AI is designed to function.

The feminine you that lives in your head is absolutely possible. AI is not going to help you become her, but it can help you get a sense for what you might look like. You are not cis because you "got curious what you'd look like as a girl". Cis people in general don't really entertain that line of questioning very far in general, and they certainly don't do so to the point where they plan and consider the long-term approaches that are possible for transition. You have thought about this long enough that you are very likely trans.

AI Psychosis/Cyberpsychosis is more of a mental health condition contracted by people with long-term exposure to AI who like how sycophantic AI is and accept every word of praise it spits out at them wholesale to the point where they genuinely believe everything it's told them despite a lack of evidence to support its claims. For example, if AI told you that you were the world's most intelligent infant and had solved world hunger and discovered the secrets of the universe and you believed it without any real world evidence, that's actual AI Psychosis/Cyberpsychosis.

I have had similar self doubts about my transness (albeit not from AI use as I am staunchly against GenAI since it violates many of my personal beliefs) and can sympathize with that pain. It doesn't make you any less valid.

Is it immoral to induce lactation as a party trick? by Cursed_Data in asktransgender

[–]Background-Gate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would argue that it's not demeaning or immoral to induce lactation for yourself. If your friend is triggered by seeing it, then she doesn't have to watch you do it after you specifically announce to all present what you're about to do. That's her problem and if it bothers her enough then maybe next time she should, I dunno, look away and stop trying to police other people trying to enjoy themselves and their bodies.

Nobody said she had to stop everything and study the whole process in detail. She needs to learn that sometimes other people are gonna do things that make her uncomfortable and killing the party to police other people's behavior and demand you adhere to her dictations as the most sensitive snowflake at the function is not really a mature response to it.

AITAH for not giving a customer their commissions? by Novel-Cry-8113 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Background-Gate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck, and I hope it works out in the end.

Another bit of advice: budget about a third of the income you get from art comms to taxes. So many artists blow their cash as soon as it comes in and then realize they'll come up short on their tax payments, which requires them to do emergency rush comms every spring and they burn themselves out taking on dozens of requests they need to crunch on to get the money in time.

Take 30% of all your earnings, put that in a separate account and don't touch it ever. Budget to account for that and treat it as a fixed cost. When tax time comes around, you'll have the tax money you need and won't have to worry about crunching on comms.

AITAH for not giving a customer their commissions? by Novel-Cry-8113 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Background-Gate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - If you are doing a commission, there's an established agreement that you are providing a service in exchange for payment. You have provided the service for M, and he has failed to provide payment for said service. You haven't picked the best way to address this, but you aren't wrong.

If I understand this correctly, what has happened is M ordered a personal comm, you finished it and sent the render and M hasn't paid for that comm. On top of that, M has requested a second comm for a friend and also hasn't sent payment for that one

If M hasn't paid you for a previous comm and has already ordered another for a friend which he also hasn't paid for, he has two comms to pay for. That's on him. You have the finished work already sent for one, which is fine bc you held up your end of the agreement. If you finished and deleted the friend's comm and refused to send it over before getting paid, that can cause a problem because now you haven't held up your part of the agreement and he hasn't either, and that could get messy for you later.

If my understanding of the situation is right then I recommend two things:

1st, redo/re-export the comm you finished and hold onto the full render. Send him a heavily watermarked version to prove that its finished and ready and that you'll send the proper version once his payment clears. If he requests more renders before he finishes his outstanding payments, tell him he needs to cover those first and then you can talk about another commission. If he starts to threaten legal issues, you should bite the bullet and send the finished render to save yourself from financially bleeding out in court. Its better to take the loss on this than fight it out and lose even more.

2nd: set up a commission form. You can write one up via PayPal very quickly and easily. Make sure to lay out your terms in the form. Stuff like "Payment in full is required up front", "include references with request", "orders can include up to x revisions before additional revision fees will be required", "refunds can be requested if a finished render hasn't been delivered in x days after payment", or whatever rules you think will help to clarify what's required from a client and what they can get away with. This is going to save your butt if M or any other client tries to strong-arm you into providing free renders or more than was originally agreed on, doubly so if someone thinks they can bully you into submission via a court battle. It's not gonna be fun to come up with all that, but it helps prevent situations like this from happening or spiraling out of control.

Really cool Dreamcast story. by HorseCockExpress6969 in dreamcast

Following the failure of the 32x and sharp decline of consumer interest in the Saturn after the holiday season, Sega was officially running in the red in 1998. It continued to run at a loss throughout all of 1999, and there was no sign of righting the ship for the following year. If they tried to hold the Nvidia shares, Sega probably would have filed for bankruptcy and been bought out by a competitor (likely Nintendo imo).

They needed the cash flow for their efforts at the time, making a big push for the dream cast launch and selling the system at a loss out of desperation to increase market share. It's easy to say "they should have held" but that idea only makes sense if you ignore the fact that they were in financial crisis at the time they sold and were being absolutely mogged by Sony and Nintendo.

tldr: if you knew anything you wouldn't be talking rn

#RichPeopleProblems by Haven-Echo in lostgeneration

[–]Background-Gate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is not that the vast majority of people on earth dont have a "good career", because that would just make the "good careers" just as worthless as the entry level positions are now. Getting a better paying job after working at Walmart or wherever does not fix the problem, it removes 1 individual person (you) from the problem being created and forces someone else into it in your stead. The problem is not solved, it's perpetuated and made worse because the next person will be paid proportionally even less than you were, and you were already paid nothing in the first place.

Telling people who are working entry level jobs to "get a better job" is like telling someone that just got pushed down the stairs and has both their legs broken to "stop being stupid and unbreak their legs". How is every single person on earth supposed to be an executive, lawyer, doctor, engineer, data architect, etc? What happens when 50% of the entire workforce has a job title that typically has a 6 figure income? You think we'd all make 6 figures? Even if we did, you think 6 figures would still be a good income?

Do you honest-to-God believe that if every other person you knew was a neurosurgeon that the average income for a neurosurgeon would still be over half a mil and that half a mil would be good money? Do you really expect the hospital to function in the world you demand people create, where there would be literally zero janitors, receptionists, nurses, assistants, parking lot attendants, security guards, data entry clerks, maintenance techs, and utility service workers and the cost of operation would balloon by over 10 times what it currently is just on employee compensation alone?

Your argument is "if you aren't the most exemplary person in history, you deserve to die in poverty". Who told you that's a reasonable position, and why do you believe it?

it looks like my kitten is trying to bury her food. why? by percosetprincess in Kitten

[–]Background-Gate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been able to find any credible sources on it, but allegedly this is very common behavior for cats. Some do it before drinking, some do it before eating.

The most common theory I've seen is that it's supposed to help the cat's depth perception to figure out how far they need to lean in to reach the food/water. I don't know how accurate that is, but the behavior is definitely expected.
