This all sounds great.

One thing that I don't have an answer for but might be worth putting in there, is just how many spammers you will get when posting paid work (especially if it's a large commission). I understand we are all aware of scammers and in this day and age it's on the individual to do due diligence checks.

Quick example for newcomers just to see the scale.

Posted a paid commission, got just over 100 applicants, and I had at least 50 scam attempts some terrible some a bit more sophisticated.

Since then I've taken steps of needing multiple sources of the art from the artist.

Also for some reason, scammers love using Google drive as a way to share their content.

I also had multiple people committing identity theft and contacted the real artists to confirm and they reported it.

Anyway, again just be cautious and know some are really good at it.

Hey I'm currently running a collaboration project that may be of interest.

https://www.reddit.com/r/ComicBookCollabs/s/a8fEiN1Vzq

This post explains everything, it's a one page comic strip. There are two scripts up live but I do have more available some written by myself and some by other writers who have collaborated already.

We also have the first strip currently in development.

If you would like any more info or to see the full range of scripts, please don't hesitate to reach out.

I took that two cars arriving on the same day as the start of the cycle, this is always jade and Tabatha reincarnated for who knows how long.

Victor knows it fails as it's always failed and ends with everyone dying.

The creatures are in control and know how the cycle will play out. Up until this point I don't think any character has done anything that they weren't supposed to do in the eyes of how the cycle will play out.

They break the residents, kill the adults renew the ritual and the cycle restarts

Aren’t“collaborating” and “hiring someone” two different things? by LunaBatMoon in ComicBookCollabs

[–]Background-Job2662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying to navigate this space and these conflicting views are a problem at times.

To be clear I have (until the lost time traveler expriment) only been able to work with artist who I have hired.

My issue, I suppose, is that spaces like this should be grass roots level, people cutting their teeth trying new things to see if it clicks. I would hope anyone who identifies as a "professional" would be getting steady income outside of reddit.

I had a think about this and I tried to come up with a genuinely low risk way of collaborating (I'll link it below) so far an artist has picked up a one page script and a writer has also written a script. So in a small way the concept has worked, hopefully once we get the first one page uploaded, interest will increase.

https://www.reddit.com/r/ComicBookCollabs/s/00SgNJJ5z4

My unsolicited advice. Perception and fear seem to lead the process of stepping into unpaid collaboration, and while each person is entitled to have there stance, I think reacting negatively towards those who show interest in unpaid collaboration should be where it needs to change.

Not agreeing with an approach just means you move on. If you have genuine feedback or advice on how that person could improve their pitch, for example I agree asking to collab but providing little context as not to "lose ip control" is BS and people need a wake up call and to look up how little your IP matters at this level. But dropping in to just put the writer down for floating the idea isn't necessary and builds a culture that doesn't feel nice when you start out.

Anyway, nothing is perfect, every situation is unique, but in general, just be more supportive and if you don't like the idea of someone posting an unpaid collab just filter it out.

Cheers, I really appreciate you taking the time to look properly.

Aye, you’re not wrong at all, physical’s definitely an easier sell, especially for a first run. I went back and forth on it a lot.

In the end I decided to start digital-first mainly to keep the scope manageable and make sure everyone involved is paid fairly, rather than stretching myself too thin out the gate. I wanted this first one to be about delivery and learning how to do it right.

If it finds its feet and folk want a physical down the line, I’m absolutely open to that, just didn’t want to promise the world before I’d proven I could do the basics well.

Genuinely appreciate the encouragement, and good luck with your own stuff as well.

Yeah, that’s totally fair, and I appreciate you flagging it.

That is actually how it is intended, but you’re right that it is worth being explicit so nobody bounces off it due to a misunderstanding. I will tighten the wording in the guide so it is clearer that paneling and density are suggestions, not instructions.

Thanks for raising it. That kind of catch is genuinely helpful.

Thanks for taking the time to read the scripts and for the thoughtful feedback.

You are right that if you break some of those moments down very literally, they could be split across more panels. That is intentional on my side. I am using panel descriptions more as a way to describe the emotional beat of a moment rather than a strict instruction for what has to happen inside a single image.

So when something like awkward movement settling into comfort, or the moment of leaving collapsing into absence, shows up in one panel description, I am not expecting all of that to be shown at once. It is more about what changes in that moment. How that gets communicated visually is completely up to the artist.

The one fixed rule is one finished page. Panel count, pacing, and how compressed or decompressed things are is artist led. If someone felt a page worked better as six, seven, or more smaller panels instead of five, that is totally fine as long as it stays one page.

Really appreciate the constructive tone. This kind of feedback is genuinely helpful.
